Really a unique experience. Loved it. How often do you get to paddle around icebergs and with seals?
Fun activity for a family traveling with young adult children. We are novice kayakers but felt like we were given enough instruction to enjoy the experience. Easy to spend several hours in the area and worth a stop!
Make sure you take the first tour of the day (if possible). It beats the bus tours. We had the first tour of the day at 09.30 on a glorious day, a clear blue sky and already 17 degrees. After checking in you will get your gear and gets all suited up. It is a 10 minutes walk to the lagoon, where you will get a safety instruction and how to operate the kayak for the people that are not familiar with it. What you see on the lake and how it looks changes by the day. We had plenty of smaller and larger ice bergs/rocks We had a great guide (Orestis Andriana) who did a great job informing us about the lagoon, the ice and what happens to the ice. Also interested in the people he is playing guide to. Very nice experience with the glacier as a backdrop. Perhaps a little less interasting on a misty day where you can hardly see anything. For us it turned out to be a great morning.
Our original one hour tour was cancelled due to unsafe wind conditions. They gave us an option for a longer tour at same price in a secluded bay with no wind. Two guides knowledgeable and personal. The one guide encouraged everyone on the water to be still for two minutes, put our phones and listen to the sounds of the glacier and water. It was beautiful. He later put on an Italian song for tourists who broke put on song in the bus...It was very memorable. They were respectful of other time commitments and reservations we had.
Fabio and Nico were great! Fabio was charming and gave us lots of information about the lagoon and icebergs and Nico watched over the group to ensure that we were safe and our gear was properly fitted and working. The scenary was so spectacular that we barely noticed the presence of other boats on the lagoon. Would definitely recommend.
We really enjoyed our kayaking guide and the experience was really fun. We also had beautiful weather so it made the experience even more enjoyable. The one part of the experience that deferred from what was advertised was that you could not get close enough to the icebergs to actually touch them for safety reasons. This is not a reflection of the tour management, mostly an observation because the pictures shows the kayakers touching the icebergs Otherwise, it was a very relaxing awe-inspiring experience.
We missed our trip because we waited at the office .....that is where the link to the meeting place provided by Tripadvisor took us.....
It is kayaking so paddling. But the pleasure is especially to be in the middle of the waves surrounded by seals that appear near the kayak along the way.
Well, my experience sucked simply because the tent was empty. Nobody was there and I never got a refund. I requested a refund. It’s been a week and I still haven’t gotten one so I guess I’ll just leave a negative review up here until it happens.
Wasn’t sure what to expect going into this experience due to the mixed reviews. However, really ended up enjoying this experience. All gear required is provided, but bring a good set of gloves as the wind can be cold when your hands get wet. After we left it was very tranquil with no noise except our paddles. We got very close to several smaller glaciers, got to enjoy the larger ones from a safe distance, and got to meet some of the harbour seals who call the lagoon home. All in all great experience with a great guide.
