Fatehpur Sikri fu la prima città meticolosamente pianificata dei Moghul, che vantava un'impressionante serie di edifici amministrativi, residenziali e religiosi. Questi includevano palazzi per i reali e i loro cortigiani; edifici pubblici come le moschee; e alloggi sia per l'esercito che per i servi del re. Oggi è una rappresentazione iconica della ricca storia e cultura dell’India. L'iconico Taj Mahal fu costruito dall'imperatore Mughal Shah Jahan in memoria della sua amata moglie Mumtaz Mahal. La costruzione iniziò nel 1632 d.C. e terminò sedici anni dopo, con la moschea, la pensione e la porta principale situata sul lato sud che furono completate prima che venissero aggiunte ulteriori caratteristiche come il cortile esterno e i chiostri tra il 1648-1653 d.C.
Il Forte di Agra è un iconico forte storico situato nella città di Agra, in India. Fu la residenza principale degli imperatori Moghul fino al 1638 quando la capitale si trasferì da Agra a Delhi. Questo straordinario monumento è stato dichiarato patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO e si trova a circa 2,5 km a nord-ovest del suo più famoso monumento gemello, il Taj Mahal.
Mehtab Bagh (Giardino al chiaro di luna) fu costruito dall'imperatore Babur all'inizio del XVI secolo. Questo giardino è rinomato per il suo perfetto allineamento con quello del Taj Mahal, e divenne famoso come "giardino del piacere illuminato dalla luna" quando Shah Jahan scelse questo sito per ammirare da lontano il suo mausoleo. Questi giardini sono oggi chiamati giardini Mehtab Bagh e questo è il luogo preferito per la vista del tramonto sul Taj Mahal.

Wonderful, efficient RT day trip from Jaipur to see the Taj Mahal. It’s ~4h drive each way, and we still had plenty of time to see the taj, take tons of great photos with our guide, grab a tasty lunch, plus add on a visit to some impressively skilled local marbleworkers. Seeing their ancestral craftwork makes you appreciate the splendor of the taj even more. A must see!!
