I have done many tours the last few years across many countries and 3 continents and this was by far the best tour I have been on. Kavindu Minipura Was super flexible, kind, entertaining, and humble. He was willing to go the extra mile to give me a great experience. I felt like a friend or a family member not a just a tourist job. If you do this tour and get him you are blessed. Seeing sites is breathtaking but experiencing them is an honour!!
Great disappointment from the company. Nothing informed well in advance and we surprised with the fees of river safari. It was a big money and they forced to do it as it was pre booked. The driver is just a drivers who doesnt talk single word and no enlglish. We felt that tout is just a car ride and we asked for cash back.
Before getting into the details, the most important advice I can give is this: if you book this tour, contact the organiser (Sigiritrip Tours) directly beforehand and get clear confirmation of everything included. This will make more sense as you read on. When booking, I communicated with Sigiritrip Tours via email (sigiritriptours@gmail.com or hello@sigiritriptours.com) and WhatsApp (+94 77 328 0412). One benefit of doing this is that, since my group booked two tours with them, they offered us a 10% discount for booking directly rather than through TripAdvisor. You can also arrange “all-inclusive” options this way, which is worth considering. Before the trip, I clearly outlined the activities we wanted, and Sigiritrip Tours confirmed the following would be included: 1. Boat safari at Madu Lake (including cinnamon island, baby crocodile experience, temple visit with monk blessings, fish massage) 2. Sea Turtle Conservation 3. Unawatuna Beach (including lunch) 4. Galle Fort / Lighthouse 5. Stilt fishing 6. Japanese Peace Pagoda 7. Kalutara Buddhist Temple & Bodhi Tree The Tour Experience DRIVER Our driver, Sugath, was safe and competent on the road. However, there were some issues with coordination at various stops, which affected the overall experience. AHUNGALLA SEA TURTLES CONSERVATION PROJECT There was some confusion on arrival regarding payment, despite us having prepaid. This delayed our entry. That said, the experience itself was excellent. The staff were knowledgeable, and it’s clear they care deeply about the animals. You can hold baby turtles, and they also care for other marine life such as sharks, fish, and eels. Although the TripAdvisor itinerary mentions Kosgoda, Sigiritrip Tours recommended this location instead and I’m glad they did. BOAT SAFARI AT MAADU LAKE This part ran smoothly. We did almost everything promised: cinnamon island visit, holding a baby crocodile, and the fish massage (which was a fun first-time experience). We were also given cinnamon tea and fresh juice, and they kindly allowed us to choose alternatives to king coconut. However, the temple visit and monk blessing did not happen. We were told the monks were unavailable. This highlights why confirming details in advance is so important. GALLE FORT / LIGHTHOUSE A short but pleasant stop. It would have been nice to get some historical context from the driver, but it was still enjoyable for a walk and photos. STILT FISHING Again, there was initial confusion about payment despite everything being prepaid. The experience itself is more of a photo opportunity than traditional fishing. You climb onto stilts and pose with a rod. It’s fun, but brief. Be mindful of clothing, as the big waves can get you wet. JAPANESE PEACE PAGODA – RUMASSALA A simple stop mainly for photos. After removing your shoes and climbing up, you can walk around the pagoda and read inscriptions about Buddhism. UNAWATUNA BEACH (AND LUNCH) This was the biggest issue of the day. The TripAdvisor listing clearly states that lunch at a beachside restaurant is included. However, on the day, we were told lunch was not included. This was particularly frustrating because I had explicitly confirmed this in advance with Sigiritrip Tours. The explanation given was that guests usually prefer to choose their own meals due to varying seafood options. That may be fair, but in that case, the listing should not advertise lunch as included. KALUTHARA BUDDHIST TEMPLE & BODHI TREE Unfortunately, we missed this stop entirely due to time lost earlier in the day, mainly from payment confusion and lack of coordination. While it may be similar to the Peace Pagoda, it was still disappointing to miss something that was part of the confirmed itinerary. OVERALL The activities themselves made for a good day, but the experience was let down by poor organisation, unclear inclusions, and time wasted resolving avoidable issues. If everything had gone according to plan, this would have been an excellent tour. However, the lack of coordination made parts of the day unnecessarily frustrating. Final advice: if you decide to book, contact the organiser directly and get everything clearly confirmed in writing beforehand, especially what is included and paid for.
Was a fun tour especially seeing the sea turtles. Beautiful coast line! Our driver was excellent and flexible!
To start it with it should have stated Galle was about 3 hours from Colombo. The place to meet was unknown to the cruise ship employees even though it said passenger terminal there wasn’t one. A resident offered to call for us and then preceded to ask for a tip. We were the only 2 in the group and in a car not a bus. That concerned us especially since the driver had a very poor command of the English language. He spoke only when spoken to, gave no tour info, and only drove us around. And his driving scared us at times! There were some places that admission was not included and when we heard the prices($40) we declined after paying $185.00 for this tour. There was no internet and we never got any bottled water. There were things included that we never made it to see and when lunch was not included we asked the driver to take us back to the ship. Viator usually does a great job , but this was not one of them.
Wonderful day trip to see Galle and a turtle conservation place with Lal. All communication was excellent, Lal was a knowledgeable, friendly and flexible host. I had a lovely day and really enjoyed my time in southern Sri Lanka.
We saw everything we wanted to see on the private tour and were really able to stay until we had seen enough of each other and taken pictures. All important places for us were visited.
Our guide was wonderful. We saw everything we wanted and skipped what we didn’t want to see It’s a long day. Make sure you have time.
It is a long day, but Dana made the journey very comfortable and was very helpful. The turtle conservation tour was very interesting. And, whilst initially I was not sure I wanted to do the boat safari, it turned out to be a highlight.
Our day started with excellent communication from our guide Lal as to where we would be collected. He took us on a long and varied tour and was very attentive to our needs. Lal made sure we saw everything described in the itinerary. I think we had a very good overview of Sri Lanka in what was quite a short time as we were coming off a cruise ship. Many thanks.
