Spettacolare arroccato sul fianco di una montagna, Taormina è una delle destinazioni estive più famose della Sicilia, un'elegante località turistica popolare tra i turisti di alto livello e coloro che desiderano un assaggio della dolce vita siciliana. Fondata nel IV secolo a.C., Taormina godette di grande prosperità sotto il sovrano greco Gelone II e successivamente sotto i romani, ma cadde in una tranquilla oscurità dopo essere stata conquistata dai Normanni nel 1087. La sua reincarnazione come destinazione turistica risale al XVIII secolo, quando gli europei del nord lo hanno scoperto durante il Grand Tour. Tra i suoi fan c'era DH Lawrence, che visse qui tra il 1920 e il 1923.
L'Etna è il vulcano più alto d'Europa e uno dei più attivi del mondo. Le sue dimensioni impressionanti (oltre 3327 metri di altezza con un diametro basale medio di 40 km) si affacciano sull'intera regione. Le sue spettacolari eruzioni e i suoi flussi di lava infuocata hanno sempre suscitato l'interesse degli scienziati e la curiosità dei visitatori di tutto il mondo. Dal 2013 l'Etna è nella lista del patrimonio mondiale dell'Unesco per le sue peculiarità geologiche di rilevanza planetaria.
Il teatro antico (il teatro greco, o "teatro greco") è costruito per la maggior parte in mattoni, ed è quindi probabilmente di data romana, sebbene il piano e la disposizione siano conformi a quelli dei teatri greci, piuttosto che romani; da cui si suppone che l'attuale struttura sia stata ricostruita sulle basi di un teatro più antico del periodo greco. Con un diametro di 120 metri (390 piedi) (dopo un'espansione nel II secolo), questo teatro è il secondo più grande del suo genere in Sicilia (dopo quello di Siracusa); è spesso usato per spettacoli lirici e teatrali e per concerti. La maggior parte dei sedili originali sono scomparsi, ma è conservata la parete che circondava l'intera cavea, e il proscenio con la parete posteriore della scena e le sue appendici, di cui rimangono solo tracce nella maggior parte dei teatri antichi, sono qui conservati in singolare integrità e contribuiscono molto all'effetto pittoresco, nonché all'interesse, della rovina. Dai frammenti di decorazioni architettoniche ancora esistenti apprendiamo che era di ordine corinzio e riccamente decorato. Sono visibili anche alcune parti di un tempio, convertite nella chiesa di San Pancrazio, ma l'edificio è di piccole dimensioni.

We used Rome in Limo for 2 excursions (Florence, Tuscany and San Gimignano) and (Taormino and My. Etna). Both days were amazing. We used 2 passenger vans since we were 10 people. The drivers were so friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend them and would use them again.
Lucca was the BEST tour guide ever!!! Really loved his job and it shows! Took us to a great lunch place off the beaten path! Highly recommend!

Last week, we had a fantastic tour with Lucca from the cruise port in Messina. Lucca was waiting for us in the port in a comfortable Mercedes car. He easily accommodated my husband's needs as a person with limited mobility who uses a walker/rollator. At my request, he change our tour to take us to a winery on Mt. Etna since my husband would not be able to walk around on the mountain and see things. He also got us to Taormina before the crowds so we could see the beautiful city without so many people. It was the perfect combination of talking/explaining the history of the island, and leaving us alone. He also took us to some amazing viewpoints that you wouldn't get to see on a larger tour. It was really a fantastic day and made us both want to return to Sicily again so we could spend more time and really enjoy this beautiful place.

I was the organizer of our 8 person group, and having used "Rome In Limo" in the past, I had no doubt that we were in store for another fabulous tour. Our Tour Guide Luca, picked us up at the port right on time as expected. He was extremely knowledgeable and polite, and he was very accommodating to everyones needs. He took us to more of the small surrounding towns than i had expected, and in each one walked us through the history and highlights of each. He made sure that were all safe and comfortable during the entire tour. I feel that his outgoing personality is certainly reflective of the "Quality" tour guides that Rome In Limo employs for all of their tours. Having been on many other cruise tours over the years, I truly feel that Rome In Limo is the "Cadillac" of the tour providers. A rating of AAA+++ is not enough for this tour guide and his company. Well done Luca!

Our driver picked us up from the Port and showed us around Taormina! Absolutely Gorgeous! He knew all the right spots to stop and/or pick us up which we conveniently located and didn't waste time. Our stop at the Winery was awesome. We had a great view looking out to the mountains, the wine and charcuterie plates were pleasing to the eye and the palate. Roberto helped us make the most of our time at our stop in Messina.
