A 3 ore di auto dalla capitale Addis Abeba, Wenchi, situata alla base di un vulcano spento, è la bellissima eredità di un vulcano un tempo potente in eruzione nel periodo terziario dell'era cenozoica. Il vulcano che eruttò circa 1000 anni fa lasciò una caldera asimmetrica di roccia che ora è ricoperta da una rigogliosa vegetazione verde. L'intero cratere contiene un grande lago con piccole isole, sorgenti minerali calde, cascate e bellissime valli e terreni agricoli. Anche un antico monastero con una chiesa posizionato su una delle isole del lago rende il luogo più allettante e affascinante. Il lago Wenchi Crater è un angolo di paradiso terrestre grazie al suo paesaggio mozzafiato e alle splendide aree panoramiche. Il luogo che un tempo ospitava i vulcani più potenti è stato ora benedetto da molte dotazioni naturali, sorgenti termali e cascate, tra gli altri. Le attività principali sono l'equitazione, il canottaggio in barca locale, l'escursionismo/trekking, il bagno nelle sorgenti termali naturali e il campeggio.

Itinerario
Fai una gita di un giorno al lago Wenchi del cratere settentrionale. Qui faremo un'escursione (o un tour a cavallo) di 5-6 ore attraverso la bellissima campagna. Camminerai fino al lago del cratere prima di attraversare il lago in barca. Su una piccola isola visiteremo un monastero e una chiesa. Dalla sponda opposta del lago iniziamo la via del ritorno attraverso una bella valle verdeggiante con numerose sorgenti di acqua limpida e piccoli ruscelli. Il percorso ci porta davanti ai mulini per il mais alimentati dall'acqua e ancora oggi utilizzati per la lavorazione del teff, un tipo di grano locale. Nel tardo pomeriggio rientro ad Addis Abeba.
Ambo (Oromo: Amboo) è una città dell'Etiopia centro-occidentale. Situato nella zona di West Shewa nella regione dell'Oromia, a ovest di Addis Abeba. Ed è la capitale della zona di West Shewa.[1] Questa città ha una latitudine e longitudine di 8°59′N 37°51′E e un'altitudine di 2.101 metri. Ambo è nota per la sua acqua minerale, che viene imbottigliata fuori città; secondo quanto riferito, è il marchio più popolare in Etiopia.[2] Le attrazioni vicine includono il Monte Wenchi a sud con il suo lago vulcanico e le cascate Guder e Huluka. Ambo è anche la sede di una stazione di ricerca dell'Istituto etiope di ricerca agricola; avviata nel 1977, questa stazione ospita ricerche sulla protezione delle principali colture in Etiopia.[3] Il giorno del mercato cittadino è il sabato.[4]

A few of my friends and I booked the Day Trip from Addis Ababa to Wenchi Crater Lake with Danakil Depression Tours, and it was the perfect break from the city. The scenery was absolutely stunning, with the beautiful crater lake surrounded by rolling hills and peaceful countryside. We spent the day exploring the area, enjoying the fresh mountain air, and taking in some of the best views we saw during our trip to Ethiopia. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the experience even more enjoyable by sharing interesting facts about the region and its history.
