We absolutely do not recommend this tour company. We booked the 2-day / 1N tour. While the Salt Flats themselves were beautiful (as they always are), the experience provided by the tour company was extremely disappointing and frustrating. It was originally scheduled to start at 8:00 AM, but the guide told us the day before to say it would begin at 9:00 AM instead, an hour lost for no clear reason. On the second day, while we were already 40 minutes into the drive toward our first destination, the guide suddenly announced that we had to turn back to pick up another traveler. The company had apparently forgotten to include them in the morning pickup. This error cost us nearly 2 hours, and we were given no choice in the matter. We attempted to contact the tour office to express our concerns, but we haven’t even finished our sentence they rudely hung up on us, completely unacceptable customer service. No willingness to communicate! Throughout the day, we visited only a few of the attractions listed in the itinerary. The guide assumed we would not pay the entrance fees for some sites and decided to skip them entirely without consulting us. We only found out when we questioned why the places we were visiting didn’t match the advertised itinerary. When we asked about one particular paid attraction, the guide simply said there wasn't much to see inside and admitted he didn’t know anything about it. If we wanted to enter, we had to pay ourselves? Yes about the pay ourselves but at least explain to us what we are paying for what is expected inside. The guide also provided minimal information, just a few sentences about one or two buildings, then disappeared to enjoy his free time. We learned almost nothing about the places we visited. During lunch, the guide and driver ate at a different time, and we had to wait for them to finish before moving on, which was an unnecessary waste of time. Overall, I felt like most of the day was spent sitting in the car rather than experiencing anything meaningful. The lack of information, poor planning, unprofessional behavior, and terrible customer service completely defeated the purpose of booking a guided tour. We were very disappointed with the experience and strongly advise others to avoid this company.
- Joined Red Planet’s 2D1N tour and regretted it. Friendly driver and tour guide, but minimal guiding—1 minute intros at each stop, then we were left to figure things out ourselves. - Our salt lake experience was basic: snacks at sunset, then dinner at a random restaurant with no drinks provided. We later found out that other Red Planet groups went on the same day got a proper table setup on the salt flats with dinner, water, and cola. Same price, clearly different service levels. - Day 2 was worse: due to the company’s miscommunication, they forgot a passenger. An hour into our route, we were forced to turn back to pick him up. The office (the lady in the attached photo) offered no apology or compensation, and hung up when we raised the issue via phone calls. - The attractions in Day 2 (Pulacayo, Tomave, Hot springs) were nothing much to visit but need to pay extra for the entrance fees. None of our shared tour group was interested, so kinda waste of time driving hours to go there. - Overall: inconsistent service, poor coordination, and unprofessional customer support. Would not recommend.
We did the 2D1N tour. Minimal explanation, Hidden fees, Miscommunication between agency and driver which led to wasted time, Missing activities, Not the same service depending on the guide, Nothing to see in the “attractions” listed, etc etc. DON’T BOTHER HONESTLY.
Not having so many days available I chose the full day that I recommend for those who have a few days but want to see the salar. The departure is at about 9:30 am in groups of 3/4 people, with the first stop in a museum of the rooms where you will be explained the various types and layers of salt and then continue towards the salar. Here you will make several stops depending on the guide, we were lucky and avoided super crowded places and then come back later when most of the guides had left. We stopped at the Dakar monument divo then we also stopped for lunch included in the tour. Another stop was at Incahuasi Island (giant cactus) beautiful and fun. But the top moment of the day was sunset, having done the tour in September dry season so we had not had the mirror effect that you see in the photos given the lack of water in the salar. This until sunset, however, where our guide took us to a point where water was present (given the rain of the past few days), from there on it was pure magic. It is one of the best experiences I have had during my travels. Top.
Really good company to go with, our tour guide Axel was brilliant and our driver Iceman was very professional and a great driver.
We took a shared group tour with Red Planet Expeditions towards the end of February 2025. We had a great time and saw many incredible views. Our tour guide, Claudia de Tarija, was amazing. She spoke excellent English and knew a bit of some other languages as well. We spent some of the time doing forced perspective pictures and videos which she organized and also taught us some Bolivian dance moves. I would definitely recommend this tour and Claudia as a guide.
We enjoyed the tour! It was a lot longer than we expected but it was great weather on the flats. Not as much rain during the rainy season haha but we still got some cool reflective shots and many with props they had and we brought. A delicious lunch on the actual salt flats and a beautiful sunset. The drivers were friendly and experienced, tour guide both English and Spanish. Went to a train graveyard, salt village with labyrinth and then the flats. Had some wine and chips at sunset. Only negative for me was the car was super tight and uncomfortable. Not a lot of ac, bring socks for boots they provide, and there aren’t too many spots to use the bathroom! Bring water but keep this in mind :-) easy pick up and drop off.. would def recommend this tour
we had a pleasant time there because of good weather: blue sky and the flats with a little water and a marvelous tour guide, who picked up the best place for taking pictures and having lunch. the experience is unusual.
This was an incredible tour! Our guide was very knowledgable, was able to answer all of our questions, and spoke great English. Highly recommend!
We paid around €80 per person, via Todo Turismo organized by Bolivia Hop. Very nice tour, you start first with the train cemetery, while chewing a few coca leaves and resin for pep, then explanation of the rituals of the region on the island with the cacti, then some funny photos to finally finish with the sunset over the lake after passing by the Dakar monument, laughter guaranteed with our completely crazy guide 😂 We spoke Spanish with him so it was very easy and if you made the effort, expect a drunken upgrade lol We paid more or less 80€ p.p from La Paz with Todo Turismo organized by Bolivia Hop. You start by train graveyard than cactus island with explanation of theirs culture and llamas sacrifice, than funny pictures and sunset on the salt lake for the reflection pictures. Show your best Spanish for advantage in alcohol! Have fun
