Una gamma diversificata conosce bene la regione di Kartli di siti culturali, tra cui diversi siti storici, culturali e paesaggistici. A partire dalla prima metà del III millennio a.C., la zona risale dal periodo classico a quello medievale, includendo e rimaneggiando più volte. La regione era la casa degli dei e della loro incarnazione terrena: sacerdoti, capi e re. Ogni strato del terreno conserva un ricordo di epoche. La regione si trovava al crocevia di culture. Il significato di questa arteria stradale era quello di collegare est e ovest. La sua strada rocciosa conserva ancora una chiara traccia del trasporto su ruote che si è spostato qui nel corso dei secoli. La regione era, di volta in volta, governata dal mitraismo o dallo zoroastrismo. Qui i sacerdoti sovrani eseguivano rituali pagani. Su questo altare offrivano sacrifici, glorificavano la divinità femminile, accendevano il fuoco dell'agrifoglio. Da proseguire durante il tour.

11 : 00 Arrivo a Uplistsikhe. Uplistsikhe è un'antica città scavata nella roccia nella Georgia orientale. Fu costruito sulla riva sinistra del fiume Mtkvari, contiene molteplici strutture risalenti all'età del ferro e al tardo Medioevo, ed è notevole per la miscela unica di varie culture scavate nella roccia provenienti dall'Anatolia e dall'Iran coesistenza di architettura pagana e cristiana.
13:00 Arrivo a pranzo. Possibilità unica di sentirsi nativi. Visita un ristorante locale e goditi il cibo tradizionale e delizioso.
14 : 45 Arrivo al Museo Stalin. Il Museo Stalin è un museo dedicato alla vita di Iosif Stalin, il Leader dell'Unione Sovietica, nato a Gori. Il Museo conserva le sue caratteristiche dell'epoca sovietica, la casa originale di Stalin e la carrozza ferroviaria di Stalin. In caso di tempo libero a Gori (facoltativo) Scopri la città di Gori, popolata fin dalla prima età del bronzo. Secondo gli annali georgiani medievali, il re Davide IV fondò Gori. La fortezza di Gori (Goris Tsikhe) sembra essere stata in uso già nel VII secolo, e le prove archeologiche indicano una comunità urbana nell'antichità classica. Nella guerra russo-georgiana del 2008, la città è stata sotto attacco aereo dall'aviazione russa fin dall'inizio del conflitto.
16 : 35 Arrivo al monastero di Jvari. Il nome di questo monastero è tradotto come "Monastero della Croce". Il monastero di Jvari è il monastero georgiano ortodosso del VI secolo vicino a Mtskheta. Insieme ad altre strutture storiche di Mtskheta, è elencato come sito patrimonio dell'umanità dall'UNESCO. Il monastero di Jvari sorge sulla cima di una montagna rocciosa alla confluenza dei fiumi Mtkvari e Aragvi, che domina la città di Mtskheta, che in passato era la capitale del regno di Iberia.
17 : 25 Arrivo a Svetitskhoveli a Mtskheta. Mtskheta, una delle più antiche città della Georgia, fu fondata dalle antiche tribù meschine nel V secolo. L'UNESCO lo riconosce come sito Patrimonio dell'Umanità per il suo significato storico e diversi monumenti culturali. Fu la capitale del primo regno georgiano di Iberia dal III secolo a.C. al V secolo d.C. Tuttavia, Mtskheta rimase a servire come luogo di incoronazione e sepoltura per la maggior parte dei re della Georgia fino al XIX secolo. La cattedrale di Svetitskhoveli (letteralmente la cattedrale del pilastro vivente) è attualmente la seconda chiesa più grande della Georgia (dopo la cattedrale della Santissima Trinità). I really enjoy this trip. Salome is clearly a history buff; I learnt a lot from her. A patriotic Sakartvelorian 😉, her talks were both informative and interesting. I particularly enjoyed the cave city, Uplistsikhe, and Svetitskhoveli cathedral. When I needed a break, we were given free time. I tried pomegranate ice cream and the local wine. I was worried that the day would be too long, but we finished slightly earlier, and we still had ample time to explore. Our driver Gochi was a perfect gentleman. The driving in Georgia is pretty wild, but he navigates the roads like a pro.

We had an amazing time during this tour, specifically because the tour incorporated so many different aspects of Georgian history/culture, we really got a wide insight into this amazing country. From the ancient culture at Uplistsikhe, to the Stalin museum and finally the two absolutely gorgeous monasteries at Mtskheta, we were able to absorb so much. Our guide, Nika, had incredible English and was extremely knowledgeable about every subject he was taking to us about, so his presence really enriched our experience. We can't wait to continue exploring Georgia!
We had an amazing time on the trip to Uplistsikhe, Gori and Mtskheta with our guide Nika! We had just enough time to explore the places by ourselves after Nika's thoughtful explanation. Each place felt unique and our day was filled with history and culture background of Georgia. We appreciated that Nika was our guide in the Stalin Museum as well, so it didnt't feel rushed going through the periods of his life - from birth to death. Would highly recommend to anyone interested in these places!
It was very successful, the guide explained extensively in place, wherever we visited he first explained, then also gave us free time, I felt really good, the guy had answers to everything, and said it was politically sensitive not going into it (as happened to me on other trips)
