Booked the “authentic experience with a Mexican charro family” and got exactly that — emphasis on authentic. Luis picked me up in Condesa right on time and talked charro culture the entire 40-minute drive up the mountain, which I did not know I needed but fully enjoyed. And the barrio itself is a whole different world from central CDMX — a mountain town with the steepest roads I’ve ever seen, fresher air, and a much more relaxed pace. Life just moves differently up there. Arrived at the stables to find a grand total of one horse present, and Aurelio (Luis’s uncle, absolute legend) mid-way through nailing shoes back onto the other one. So my day began with spectator horseshoeing. Ten out of ten, would watch again. Then the actual riding: forest, mountains, and — for reasons I still don’t fully understand — a stretch down a road in real traffic, which the horses handled better than most drivers. Aurelio walked alongside the whole way playing personal photographer with my phone, so I have receipts. We stopped at a tiny mountain restaurant for two kinds of unreasonably good tacos and a beer split three ways. This is more than a ride. You’ll shoe-watch, road-ride, eat like a local, and get toured around like a guest (or whatever is coincidentally on the agenda). Five stars.
as someone who rides horses often, this was the best experience I had when visiting CDMX for a month. It was such a beautiful landscape in Los Dinamos with great views of the city and it was amazing to see a real charro training session. Charro is so much more than horseback riding, it is an entire culture. It was awesome to learn about it and meet Luis and his awesome group. Please book this (they have a website too). You will have so many amazing memories (and photos taken by Aurelio) to take home with you!
I have to say, I got there with all the excitement in the world and did not disappoint. Amazing experience. Staff was incredible and welcome at all times, very helpful for a new horse rider like me. Deserves 5/5
The trip was amazing. We had a good car ride with Luis, who was very friendly and made us comfortable. The horses were beautiful and well cared for. We rode Guapo and Capulin. The riding was perfect for beginners and the scenery was stunning as we made our way through the valley. This is a great small business to support that wants you to have a good time and treats the horses well. They take great photos of you on the horses to be able to share and remember the adventure. Fully recommend booking a trip with them! Thank you Luis and Aurelio!
Aurelio, Luis, and the boys are one the coolest guys you’ll ever work with. You get to ride horses safely and you also get to have a blast hanging out with them. They’re like a family and you get to be a part of that for a short time. It’s awesome. Highly recommend.
Very genuine Charro experience. Loved the scenery. Amazing direction. Be aware that some experience riding a horse would be recommended but not mandatory. They show you step by step how to handle and ride, but horses are young and energetic. The scenery, is beyond beautiful. Definitely no cell phone service and food at the end is amazing. It was my girls birthday and they even brought her a cake. Very wholesome and genuine tour 10/10 hidden lake and waterfall at the end so bring extra clothes if you want to dip in.
This is a one in a life time experience if you have never been riding before. They teach you about the culture, about how to care and clean the horses. The people, the food, the scenery is breathtaking. Thank you so much for sharing your world with us.
My friend and I joined Luis and Aurelio expecting a wonderful horseback ride through the beautiful mountains outside Mexico City. What we received was so much more. The ride was incredible, but the real highlight was the opportunity to experience the culture, food, traditions, and hospitality of the local people. Luis and Aurelio made us feel like friends from the very beginning, sharing their passion for their heritage and creating an unforgettable day. We left with amazing memories, a deeper appreciation for Mexico, and a new friendship. Luis will be a lifelong friend, and we look forward to staying in touch. If you're looking for an authentic experience, we highly recommend Luis and Aurelio.
Day of I found out that I was going solo since the other group canceled. So that was unexpected, but it was fine. The weather was beautiful. I'm bilingual so that helped. It was just me and the guide, it was intimidating at first getting used to riding a horse, but with help and guidance I got comfortable. They make sure that you are enjoying the experience and build your confidence. I got to enjoy the view, authentic food and hear stories from locals. After eating, the driver took me back to CDMX. Definitely recommend to trying it out!
This was definitely a unique experience! Luis is awesome, super down to earth and genuinely cares about making sure everyone has a good time. He picked us up in the city and brought us to his family’s home in a small town, which already made the experience feel really authentic. One thing I’ll say for future riders: I was a complete novice and expected more of a relaxed countryside stroll… this is NOT that. Don’t get me wrong, I had an amazing time and never felt unsafe, but the ride can definitely get hectic if it’s your first time on a horse. We rode through streets with cars and dogs, and once we got into the woods there were lots of steep uphill/downhill sections. At one point we were rushing to get ahead of another group, which got a little stressful for me as a beginner. That said, watching a different huge tour group struggling with poorly trained horses (including one horse bucking with someone on it) made me really appreciate how well Luis and Aurelio handled our small group. Our horses were calm, well cared for, and they were attentive the entire time. The food stop alone was worth it: absolutely stunning views and honestly some of the best food I’ve had in Mexico. Better than some Michelin-star places I’ve tried in Mexico City. Overall, if you’re adventurous and okay stepping outside your comfort zone a bit, this is an unforgettable experience and an incredible way to spend the day.
