Hitting the Highlights of the Austrian Alps, Lakes, & Classical Music!

A wonderful day trip from Vienna to Hallstatt and Salzburg by bus. This is a comprehensive tour if you are short for time in Vienna to visit neighboring landmark cities. Its give you a brief overview of Austria. The tour starts early and the drive is long however it makes up for having self-organize train or car rentals on your own. The bus had air conditioning and a bathroom. They provided espresso and biscuits during the ride. The tour bus was completely full about 50 people. The bus also stops at a rest stop between the two towns for a bio break. The guide walked us through Hallstatt and gave us tips and tricks how to navigate the mountain and lake town efficiently. She made recommendations for local shops for salt and pastries stores for signature Austrian style Viennoiserie. The guide took our pictures by the lake. Afterwards, we spent 1 hour of free time to explore. The walking tour in Salzburg was about 20 minutes, the guide shared facts about Mozart’s childhood home and the filming location of “The Sound of Music”. We had approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes to self-explore the town on our own. The guide provided a few restaurant and chocolate and souvenirs shop recommendations. The guides were professional and proficient in english. The tour is short on time, so spend it wisely based on the suggested recommendations for free-time within town. The guides provided seamless communication, and safe transportation. Long and compact day on the bus but it’s worth it if you want to kick back and relax without having to preplan and self-navigate.

Last-Minute Late-Night Cancellation and Ghosted

We booked this tour (group of 4) over 1 month ahead of time, for our 4d stay in Vienna. The tour company cancelled our tour at 10:26pm the previous day, no communication and no replies on Tripadvisor to explain or apologize. This tour leaves the next day at 6am, which was a miracle we even stayed up late enough to see the email the night before. If the issue was that the group was too small/didn’t fill, they should have at least let us know 1d beforehand AT MINIMUM so that we could’ve made other plans for the day. Overall highly unprofessional and disappointing, try to avoid giving your business here. (We had an excellent Wachau Valley bike+wine tour experience with Vienna Explorer! photo attached to help boost visibility of this review)

Waist of time and money

The guide didn't give us time in Salzburg at all. I guess it wasn't his fault as the tour operator... Waist of time and money.

The perfect day trip with the perfect guide

Today was a really nice tour of Hallstatt and Salzburg. The driver did an amazing job. It’s a long day for everyone but especially him. Thank you. Otti our guide was friendly and professional throughout. She explained every step of the day and gave historical information on the places we visited. Otti goes the extra mile and does simple things that really stand out and make a difference. Coffee for everyone on the coach. A biscuit. Taking photos and then giving people a printed copy totally free of charge. You are good at what you do Otti. Thanks for a great day.

The Worst Guide

I joined the tour on July 12. I was personally convinced that the scenery was fine because I didn't speak English, but that participant didn't understand English and lacked consideration for the participants who couldn't speak English about the meeting time and explanation of the way home. It was a mess without a simple map. I also left without the participants who couldn't make it to the meeting, but I don't know if I made a decision after contacting them and left, but I felt sorry for them for being left in a place they didn't know. It was also the worst tour without any explanation, as there was nowhere to park while going into the parking lot saying I was going to take a toilet break on the way home, so I didn’t stop anywhere until I arrived through.

Hallstatt and Salzburg

Good informative guide. Just enough time in Hallstatt. Could have been a little longer in Salzburg. It’s a long journey so be prepared for some time in the bus. Please bring something to eat / drink in the bus. We recommend this trip if you have a whole day to spend on an extra trip.

Great Experience

Great experience. Our tour guide Priscilla was very accommodating and clear on her instructions. She went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a extraordinary time. The bus ride was smooth and the bus was comfortable.

Would not recommend

The long ride was not worth the actual short visit we experienced. The bus was not comfortable nor did not have WiFi. They did they offer anything simple like bottled water. Overall would not recommend.

Wonderful

Great experience. This is an all day trip but it’s a must do trip when in Austria. My family and I enjoyed both cities.

Beautiful day trip. Staff helpful and kind. Comfortable bus. Short period of time in Salzburg

Overall it was a beautiful day trip! The scenery was truly breathtaking. The staff was helpful and polite. The bus was very comfortable. But I have to complain they gave us less than hour in Salzburg due to a city event. We couldn’t enjoy the gardens or visit Mozart’s house. We barely had time to buy some to go lunch, buy a few souvenirs and rush back to bus, which was another 15 min walk (within the hour they gave us) It was very disappointing and I wish we had more time to enjoy. It wasn’t pleasant, it was stressful. The Hallstatt visit was beautiful! We enjoyed it more. I wish we had more time in Salzburg than Hallstatt.
