Our guide was a nice man who did his best with little to work with, but the tour bore little resemblance to the description. We enjoyed Lievan’s description of Bo Kamp. We went to a very simple Malay restaurant and then, quite briefly to Mama Africa for one portion of tasters. None of the rest. The fact that one of us was pescatarian seemed to throw the whole evening into chaos. Surely in 2025 this would be common. We have had lovely fish and vegetables everywhere else in Cape Town but it seemed that unless you ate meat a food tour wasn’t feasible. Not great at all, especially for the money.
There were only my wife and I on the tour so we were a bit apprehensive at first. But Lieven soon made us feel at ease with his friendly chat. He was very knowledgeable about Cape Town and he took us to a great Malay restaurant in Bokaap which we would never have done. Then on to Mama Africa where, among other things, we enjoyed crocodile meat, ostrich meat and some kind of worms… I managed just the one! Then Lieven very helpfully drove us back to our hotel. Thank you Lieven for a wonderful experience!
My guide Lieven was very knowledgeable and friendly. He told me many history about the town and the food I was tasting. He is also very flexible and can cater towards my preferences. 10/10 experience.
We had this booked prior to our visit to Cape Town, but were messaged from the company that due to the national holiday the following day most the restaurants were closing early and we would not be able to do the walking food tour. Instead of just cancelling on us, they found an alternative dinner plan for our family at the Gold restaurant. This was dinner and a show with a 15-course tasting menu along with drumming and dancing. Our family had an amazing time and are very thankful for the tour company to take care of getting things moved last minute.
Great experience. recommended to anybody who wants too know about the culture and food of Cape Town.
It was an excellent tour, very accommodating, with a great understanding of the culture, and a super nice and pleasant guide. I recommend this tour. Especially if Lieven, is your guide. He is awesome. Thanks
There was only a total of a full meal and one specialty drink. This tour was way overpriced for the quality and quantity of food. Not recommended.
Sorry to hear that our tour didn't respond to your expectation, it seems no proper communication has been shared with our guide to cater the experience to your need
The guides were friendly and the atmosphere was good. There were also many unusual foods and the explanation was easy to understand. Caterpillars, in particular, can be eaten without prejudice.
Lieven was an excellent guide and a very nice man. Through the restaurants that we visited and through answering our many questions we really felt that we gained a much better impression of life In Cape Town. At the restaurants he took us to we were served a wide range of delicious dishes and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We'd heartily recommend Lieven and this tour!
This was not a food tour, but rather a 2 meal experience! How can you possibly eat to lunches in a matter of 2 hours? The food was ok at best, but we would have rather had little bites in a few different places.
Hi Sharon, Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations. Our tour guides always strive to tailor experiences based on our guests’ preferences and typically ask about expectations at the beginning of the tour.
