Verremo a prendervi al vostro hotel a Città del Guatemala e poi attraverseremo la città sulla strada per il dipartimento di Sacatepequez, dove si trova Antigua Guatemala City. Casa Santo Domingo, un tempo il più grande monastero di Antigua Guatemala, fa risalire le sue origini al 1538 con l'arrivo dei Domenicani. Questo santuario a due torri e dieci campane era uno scrigno di reliquie e devozione. Anche se parzialmente distrutta dal terremoto di Santa Marta del 1773, le sue rovine rimangono uno splendido esempio di architettura barocca. Iniziamo il nostro tour a piedi dal Central Park di Plaza de Antigua Guatemala, che è il centro della città, circondato anche dagli edifici più importanti.
È una chiesa cattolica romana ad Antigua Guatemala. La chiesa originale fu costruita intorno al 1541 ma subì diversi terremoti nel corso della sua storia e il primo edificio della chiesa fu demolito nel 1669. La cattedrale fu ricostruita e consacrata nel 1680. Nel 1743 la cattedrale era una delle più grandi dell'America centrale. Tuttavia, il devastante terremoto del Guatemala del 1773 danneggiò gravemente gran parte dell'edificio, sebbene le due torri nella parte anteriore rimasero in gran parte intatte. Questi sono stati oggetto di lavori di restauro e la cattedrale è stata in parte ricostruita. La visita alle rovine della chiesa non è inclusa. Nota: Visitiamo solo all'esterno. L'ingresso alla Cattedrale di Santiago è facoltativo.
Il Palazzo dei Capitani Generali, o Palazzo Reale, è un edificio coloniale situato nella città di Antigua Guatemala. Ospita gli uffici dell'Istituto del turismo guatemalteco, della Gilda del turismo di Antigua, della polizia civile nazionale e del governo dipartimentale, tra gli altri.

È circondato da un bellissimo giardino, negozi di artigianato e ottimi caffè che offrono autentico caffè "Antigüeño" (caffè di Antigua Guatemala) con note di cioccolato dovute al processo di tostatura. Se vuoi entrare in chiesa, ti verrà chiesto di non indossare pantaloncini e magliette senza maniche, e per le donne non sono ammesse minigonne.
La storia della chiesa di El Carmen risale al 1683 quando il consiglio comunale concesse l'autorizzazione per la costruzione di un tempio sotto l'invocazione di Nostra Signora del Carmen. Questa chiesa subì gravi danni dopo i terremoti del 1717, 1728 e 1773. Infine l'edificio fu distrutto, quindi dovette essere abbandonato.

We wanted to feedback about our recent tour in Antigua Guatemala on Saturday April 27, 2024, half day - private tour. This was a time sensitive tour as we had to return to our cruise ship, SilverSea (Silver Nova) by 4pm. As seasoned travelers who value professional guided tours, this experience was uniquely disappointing and we believe specific instances from our tour will illustrate why improvements are necessary. Ignoring Client Preferences: We had specific ideas about where we wanted to eat and what we wanted to see, but our guide dismissed these requests. Despite multiple attempts to direct him to our chosen shopping destinations, he insisted on taking us to another location, which then forced us to walk to our desired shopping destination. Obtrusive Behavior: At each site, he positioned himself in front of us, blocking views while pointing out mundane objects without providing any historical context or educational value. His commentary was often repetitive, pointing out the obvious, such as "look, this building is very old, very old", which did not enhance our understanding of the locations visited. Lack of Privacy: The guide's presence was overbearing. For instance, in the restaurant at the Porta Hotel, he chose to sit continuously within our view, observing us as we ate, which was highly uncomfortable. His subsequent behavior was equally unprofessional; he took tourist-like photos in the lobby, which delayed us further as he lost track of where he had parked the car. Disregard for Time Management: After the meal, when it was clear we were pressed for time, the guide was unable to locate the car promptly, insisting it was "just around the corner." This led us to decide to walk to our next destination out of necessity, not preference—a choice he seemed to misunderstand as a casual decision rather than a frustration-driven necessity. These specific examples reflect a broader issue of professionalism and sensitivity to our needs, which were not met during our tour. The guide’s knowledge was inadequate, in addition his delivery and conduct were neither professional nor considerate. Furthermore, we would like to reiterate our appreciation for the driver, who was both polite and efficient, contrasting sharply with our experience of the guide. We have attached a photo of the guide for your reference, as we do not recall his name. We trust that you will address these issues promptly to prevent future clients from having similar experiences. The driver and the guide were very nice and very knowledgeable The city itself was very quaint and the volcanoes were great to see. The drive there is quite bumpy and lots of traffic both ways.

Antigua was amazing. The combination of colonial architecture, blossomed jacarandas and volcanic scenery was spectacular. Eduardo, my guide, provided detailed information of the city history and showed me the best spots. Highly recommend it.

This tour was so much fun that I extended it to a full day tour. I met some marvelous folks from around the globe. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. I learned a lot of history about Antigua. It's a beautiful town to wonder around. The group also enjoyed a lunch while in town and the food was amazing. Don't hesitate, just book this tour!

Excellent tour. Ruben is an excellent guide and very entertaining. He was amazingly informative and educated us about Antigua, Guatemala in general, the Mayan history as well as current maya customs and dress. Ask for Ruben and you will have an excellent tour of Antigua and Guatemala.
