Such a great hike. We had three generations on the hike, 80 y/o, 46 y/o and 15 y/o. Our guide adapted to all of us. Fantastic experience!
Yes, if you’re in Valencia, do THIS! We had a perfect day with wonderful Jan and his adorable, hilarious puppy. Gorgeous views and the hike was strenuous (but not too hard). Highly recommend!
What an amazing day we had hiking with Jan and Eru (his puppy)!! Jan picked us up at our hotel right on time, and was engaging during the ride to Chulilla. After a quick coffee, we hit the trail. Jan had great knowledge of the history of the area and kept us informed as we made our way thru the canyon. The views were better than you could imagine. Toward the end of the hike Eru was relived to find some water to cool off in as it was a beautifully warm day. A couple of cervezas was a perfect way to end the day. We would recommend this for anyone seeking a bit of adventure during their visit to Valencia.
We crossed three bridges within an our, and had a great hike through the canyon, around the mountain, and back to Chulilla. A beautiful scenery as we arrived back in Chulilla.
Wonderful experience. Our guide Jan made the walk very pleasant, fun and interesting. Fully recommended.
We took this hike with our guide, Jan, and had a brilliant experience from start to finish. Communication beforehand was excellent, and we met as planned in central Valencia before driving about an hour to Chulilla. After parking, we walked into the town for a quick coffee stop before starting the hike. From the very beginning the scenery was stunning, the canyon is absolutely breathtaking, with lush greenery and the river winding between dramatic canyon walls. The hanging bridges come within the first hour, and after crossing them the route continues deeper into the canyon, the landscape shifting as you approach the reservoir. We chose the longer route, which takes you up and out of the canyon for incredible views from above before descending along a dry riverbed back down towards the village of Chulilla. It's worth noting that the longer route has considerably less shade, so if when Jan offers you the option of the longer or shorter route you're already feeling the heat, go with the shorter route. The pace was comfortable and the hike was great exercise. My partner and I are both used to walking, but it’s worth noting this is definitely a medium fitness level hike as described. The heat, steep climbs and descents, and loose ground underfoot could be tough for anyone not used to hiking regularly. For us, though, it was fabulous, challenging in a good way, and very rewarding. A couple of practical tips: bring plenty of water (you'll need at least 1.5l each as advised by Jan) and a packed lunch, as there are no places to stop along the way. Also, this is very much a hiking experience rather than an educational tour. Jan is clearly knowledgeable and experienced, but the focus is on guiding you safely through the route, not on history lessons; there are information boards along the trail if you want to learn more about the bridges and canyon. The tour description also mentions swimming and cave paintings. We didn’t see any cave paintings (though we only realised afterwards when writing this review, which shows how much else there was to enjoy). At the end of our hike there was the chance to paddle in the river, a refreshing treat, but not really a swim, at least on the longer route we that's what you did. I believe the shorter option brings you back via a deeper part of the river where proper swimming is possible. Overall, this was a fantastic day out, smoothly organised, breathtaking scenery, and a guide who knows the trails inside out. If you want to immerse yourself in nature and enjoy one of the most beautiful landscapes just outside Valencia, this hike is highly recommended.
Great trip with a fantastic guide (Jan) Picked up at our address and started the trip after a delicious cappuccino, our guide had brought his dog (first asked if that was good) and we as dog lovers thought that was a nice addition to the walk. Beautiful nature and also the medieval village where we started and ended with a delicious cold beer!!! Recommended for anyone who loves nature and hiking
Beautiful hike and scenery! Jan was a wonderful guide. Bring lots of water - it gets warm during the summer months
Thank you Sima. It was great that you allowed me to bring my puppy Eru
