We booked the tour the day before and were not sure we will get confirmed, but it worked out! We met at the rende-vous point early in the morning. Drove to the beginning of the hike and started walking (I wore trail sandals). Our guides Mari and Tiva were very nice and knowledgable. They pointed out all the different plants, how they got here, and what they are used for. We got to a garden, which was our halfway point, and there we were shown what the seeds of the plants are used for. Continued the hike to the waterfall (not hard but slippery as it had rained the night before) and got to it in about 20 mins. Swam around it for a bit then headed back to the garden to eat some delicious fruit! Will 100% recommend booking
This experience was absolutely amazing! Mary knew every plant, tree, and flower and how each one could be used. The waterfall was beautiful, but my favorite part was having fresh fruit from Mary’s garden. Mary’s spirit and personality is so much fun, positive, and vibrant. It was an honor to meet her. We had so much fun and will never forget this day!
First the tour guides were awesome. Tiva and Yvette were so fun and knowledgeable. Besides a really cool hike with some truly SPECTACULAR views we learned so much about Tahiti and the culture. And then the lunch afterwards was so good! And don't be a chicken... DO take a swim in the waterfall!
We had a fabulous hike with Tieva! He and Yvette are highly rated on this site, so they are the only two I will refer to here. Teva told us delightful stories about many of the trees and how they were used not only for their fruit and leaves, but for medicinal purposes. We stopped by the home of Cezar who together with his wife, have a beautiful botanica garden in their yard:) The trek up to the waterfall was a bit more challenging than my seventy something husband and I were aniticipating ( plus it was very muddy), but Teva and Cezar assisted us expertly along the way, The waterfall is so gorgeous !!(the pics do not do it justice!) We enjoyed the beauty of it, ants well as the sounds and fragrances. On the way down we stopped at Cezar's again, this time for a tasty fruit medlley of papaya, passion fruit, breadfruit, grapefrui and coconut, displayed lovingly with abundant flowers. Don't miss this experience! It was one of the highlights of our Moorea visit! Sara and Brad
Our private tour with Moorea VIP Tour was SO good. We do tons of tours of all kinds in every country and this was one of the most interesting and informative ones we've ever done. We did the Half Day Guided Hike to Afareaitu waterfall and our guide Yvette was simply amazing. She was so fun and interesting and taught us so much about the history and culture of the island, and pointed out so many things along the tour that we never would have known without her. She also has a private property along the public hiking route so you really do feel like a VIP cuz you start and end the hike there and all the locals you pass know her and treat you like friends. She also takes you to some other beautiful viewpoints along the way there and back and loves helping you get great photos. If you do this tour just know that the waterfall portion is a moderate hike up and down pretty rough terrain...she gives everyone a bamboo hiking stick and tells you exactly where and how to step so you stay safe, so if you're in halfway decent shape you'll be ok but it's not a stroll through the park. But you'll learn so much and have the most delicious spread of tropical fruits waiting for you after the hike! This is the kind of tour where your guide is really eager and excited to share their home and culture with you, not just run through a list of standard tour guide talking points. So if you really like to learn and have fun on your tour, and have a really engaged guide, this is for you. If we had more time I'd definitely do another one of their tours, especially with Yvette! https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g309685-d9764290-Reviews-Moorea_Vip_Tours-Moorea_Society_Islands.html
Wow, what a tour! Yvette is amazing, she was so attentive and sweet when guiding us and she delivered the tour with so much passion it was an absolute pleasure. She is extremely knowledgeable, speaks several languages and has a great energy making this a wonderful experience for all involved. Cesar was also very kind and made us a lovely lunch with his wife. Highly recommended, māuruuru Yvette & Cesar!
This guided waterfall tour was that and much more! Our guide, Mary, and her family live in the valley on a beautiful property where they cultivate an extensive garden. We received a tour of the property and enjoyed a nice pause for water and a sampling of local fruits. Mary has a regal quality about her and I imagined her to be related to the historic royalty she educated us on throughout the hike. We did get into the water at the waterfall - it's cooler than the ocean! I would do it again in a heartbeat!
The staff are very, very friendly and helpful. The whole waterfall is a joy to hike, especially when you get to the falls and feel the energy of the waterfalls and mountains in the falls. 🥹 The leader was keen and attentive, explaining the history of Tahiti in general and Jasmine Island in particular and its special geography along the way. This trip was more than just a waterfall hike it gave me a deeper understanding and connection to Jasmine Island. At the end of the event the leader returned us to our hotel, stopping on the way to help us take photos with the beautiful lagoon and sea across Jasmine. BTW, lunch is super delicious 😆, super fresh fruit, some fruit and fruit to eat together is another flavor, really happy! Five Star 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Recommended! I left a message in Chinese because the leader said his family knew Chinese and hoped to meet again when they came back to Moorea Island.
We thoroughly enjoyed this experience! Teva is very charismatic and displayed his obvious love for Mo'orea, her people and her culture. Both he and MarieFrance were witty and engaging, keeping us informed and, importantly, safe during the walk. The part of the walk to the waterfall is not particularly challenging, however there are some steep parts with exposed roots, and it had been raining so was slippy in parts. The walk up to the garden, and the garden itself, is peppered with native plants; Teva and MariaFrance share a lot of information on the uses of these; who knew it takes 7 years for Vanilla to be ready? It was a pleasure to meet Caesar and his Mum, who own and work the land this tour takes you through. The trip ends with a fruit tasting session - Wow! Beautifully decorated table and numerous freshly prepared fruits to taste.
Yvette was amazing. Shared great knowledge of the beautiful flowers amd plants along our hike to the waterfall. Also included was a taste of the islands wonderful fruits. She was a great host and highly recommend to anyone up for some adventure, culture and beautiful scenery. We had a great time.
