Just a heads up that it is not just your party. It is everyone else who also bought this experience on the boat with you. I guess that is my fault for not figuring out and not reading well enough before booking. However it was a good experience and we did have fun once we got to crab island.
I booked the Crab Island excursion with SunVenture Cruises through GetYourGuide approximately 3 to 4 weeks before our family vacation to Destin. I had heard wonderful things about this excursion and was genuinely excited to share the experience with my family. July 14 was the only day all of us were available, so we planned our vacation around this reservation. On the morning of the excursion, I checked the GetYourGuide app and everything still showed as confirmed. We drove more than 20 minutes to the marina, spent time searching for parking, and then made the long walk with our group, which included five children, my mother-in-law, my sister, and her boyfriend. We arrived about five minutes early and waited at the check-in kiosk. After waiting approximately 15 minutes with no one present, I called the number posted on the kiosk. I was redirected to another number that rang repeatedly before disconnecting. I also sent a message through the GetYourGuide app, but received no immediate response. Thankfully, a marina employee noticed us waiting and told us the boat was already boarding, so we hurried down the dock. When we reached the boat, the captain informed us that the vessel was operating a private charter that day. I showed him my paid reservation and voucher, but he simply stated that they only had a private charter scheduled. At about the same time, someone from SunVenture returned my call and informed me that our excursion had been canceled on July 11, three days before the trip. I was told they had sent a text message. Unfortunately, I had accidentally entered one incorrect digit in my phone number when booking, so I understand why I did not receive that text. That mistake is mine. However, that should not have been the only method of communication for canceling a prepaid excursion. I never received an email. My reservation remained active in the GetYourGuide app right up until the scheduled departure. There was nothing to indicate the trip had been canceled. As a paying customer, I had every reason to believe our excursion was proceeding as planned. What is most disappointing is the reason for the cancellation. Rather than canceling because of weather, safety, or an unavoidable mechanical issue, our reservation was apparently canceled so the company could accommodate a private charter. From a customer’s perspective, it feels as though our family’s reservation, made weeks in advance, was simply replaced by a more profitable opportunity. The financial inconvenience was frustrating, but it pales in comparison to the disappointment. We organized an entire day of our vacation around this experience, coordinated the schedules of nine people, transported five excited children to the marina, and only learned we had no reservation after walking to the boat. By then, there was no opportunity to make alternate plans because every other excursion was fully booked. Businesses certainly have the right to pursue private charters, but honoring existing reservations should be the foundation of customer service. If a business chooses to cancel confirmed bookings for a more lucrative opportunity, it has an even greater responsibility to ensure customers are clearly and repeatedly notified through every available communication channel. That simply did not happen here. This experience left us feeling that our reservation was treated as expendable rather than valued. It was an incredibly disappointing way to spend what should have been one of the highlights of our family vacation.
Nice cruise and the crew were friendly! Great vibes, people and music. Plenty of space. I would use them again.
Great time! Great for kids… we had a one year old and 10 year old ! Crew was very helpful! They will blow up ur floats and hand you anything out of ur bags or cooler that you need while in the water!
Great captain and staff. It is over an hour to Crab Island and back taking this cruise. Something to be mind full of.
Amazingly nice crew, great boat, and overall wonderful experience! They blew up our floats and got our drinks from our cooler while we were in the water. Definitely went out of their way to help us relax.
I picked this excursion based solely on the reviews. Boat left late-after a lot of stress for us, on our end, to arrive in a timely manner. Teens work the boat, while the captain drives. The employees had very disrespectful friends on board and they only catered to them. VERY unprofessional. Some of the kids were extremely offensive to those or other races. Vaping galore. Boat ride is over an hour to get there. That is not stated. If you arrive at 11:30, you will be on the boat almost 2 hours before touching water. There are two locations so ensure you arrive at the correct one. Hour + ride back to the dock. Limited crab island due to length of boat ride. Would not recommend or ever return again unless you would like to spend the day with disrespectful teens, vapes, and a LONG boat ride with a short time at crab island.
Overall good experience, time at the Island is just about right, the trip there and back are a little bit of a journey. A few more things to do while on the boat would help pass time, not sure what that could be.
The boat ride is about an hour long there and back to crab island. You spend more time on the boat than you do at crab island. I will definitely be looking at a different one that is closer. The parking is also horrible. The staff were super nice and made it fun tho!
This was a very nice trip very friendly staff. There’s a Publix in the vicinity where you can buy anything that you need for the trip. at the marina that’s a restaurant you can sit and eat breakfast or lunch while you wait for boarding time. It takes about an hour to make it to crab Island from the marina. You don’t really have to take much food on this trip, there are many vendors on the water. We spent about two hours and 15 minutes in the water by 3:15. The boat was heading back to shore.
