Questo tour comprende tutte le attrazioni e le destinazioni "da vedere" a Inverness e dintorni. Una giornata di monumenti storici, panorami epici e storie fantastiche ti aspetta! Godiamo di splendide viste sul Beauly Firth mentre ci dirigiamo verso Beauly Priory. Costruito originariamente nel XIII secolo dai monaci di Digione, in Francia, rimane gran parte della struttura principale. Da qui ci dirigeremo oltre la collina verso Loch Ness e il castello di Urquhart. Avrai tutto il tempo per goderti l'esplorazione di questo affascinante punto di riferimento mentre ammiri le viste impareggiabili di Loch Ness. Attraverseremo quindi la vecchia Inverness, fermandoci per goderci il fiume e altro ancora, prima di dirigerci verso il castello e i giardini di Cawdor e Clava Cairns, risalente a 4000 anni fa. La nostra destinazione finale è il campo di battaglia di Culloden, luogo dell'ultima battaglia mai combattuta sul suolo britannico e dove la ribellione giacobita del 1745 giunse alla sua tragica fine. Guidiamo lungo il Cromarty Firth da Invergordon con vista sui Beauly e Moray Firth, fino a Beauly Priory.
Beauly Priory è uno dei tre priorati fondati in Scozia intorno al 1230 per i monaci dell'ordine Valliscauliano. I Valliscauliani provenivano dalla Val-des-Choux ("Valle dei cavoli") vicino a Digione in Francia, e aderivano a rigidi ideali di povertà, castità e obbedienza. Beauly, che significa “luogo bello”, dovette sembrare ai monaci un luogo meraviglioso in cui dedicarsi al culto. Oggi rimane solo la chiesa abbaziale, che ospita alcuni pregevoli monumenti funerari.

Un tempo uno dei castelli più grandi della Scozia, Urquhart fu teatro di grandi conflitti durante i suoi 500 anni come fortezza medievale. Il controllo del castello passò avanti e indietro tra scozzesi e inglesi durante le guerre d'indipendenza. Le lotte per il potere continuarono, poiché i Signori delle Isole razziarono regolarmente sia il castello che la valle fino al 1500. Le ultime truppe governative di guarnigione qui durante le rivolte giacobite fecero saltare in aria il castello quando se ne andarono. Il castello di Cawdor con il suo cancello in ferro, il fossato e il ponte levatoio, le torrette, le scale a pedaggio e la cucina a volta del XVI secolo è ricco di intrighi e storia. Questa antica casa torre medievale costruita per il 3° Thane di Cawdor è stata la dimora di oltre 23 generazioni della famiglia Cawdor. Esplora le 12 stanze principali di questa casa unica contenente collezioni di arazzi rari, belle arti, mobili, ceramiche e sculture che coprono un arco di 3.500 anni. Scopri uno dei siti preistorici più suggestivi della Scozia: gli eccezionali resti di un antico cimitero, situato su una terrazza sopra il fiume Nairn. I Clava Cairns hanno circa 4.000 anni e furono costruiti per ospitare i morti. Il cimitero rimase per millenni un luogo sacro nel paesaggio e fornisce molti indizi sulle credenze della società dell'età del bronzo. Ciò che rimane oggi un tempo avrebbe fatto parte di un complesso più ampio. I siti contengono una serie di monumenti sepolcrali preistorici e resti di una cappella medievale.
Il 16 aprile 1746, la rivolta finale giacobita giunse al culmine brutale in una delle battaglie più strazianti della storia britannica. I sostenitori giacobiti, cercando di riportare la monarchia Stuart sui troni britannici, si riunirono per combattere le truppe governative del Duca di Cumberland. Fu l'ultima battaglia campale sul suolo britannico e, in meno di un'ora, furono uccisi circa 1.600 uomini, 1.500 dei quali giacobiti. Il Culloden Visitor Centre, ricco di ricerche, stimolante e sensibile, che si trova accanto al campo di battaglia, presenta manufatti di entrambi i lati della battaglia e display interattivi che rivelano i retroscena del conflitto. My Family and friends booked a tour with Grant Driving Tours of Scotland for September 8, 2024. We were on a British Isles Cruise on the Regal Princess. Bill was my contact for arranging the tour, he assured me that we would have a wonderful day and not to worry. He arranged a tour of loc Ness, Urquhart Castle and Culloden Battlefield. On the day of our tour Billy our driver and guide met us at the Port at 8:30 am, and after a brief greeting we were off on our tour. Our first stop was Beauly at the Robertson Farm where we saw beautiful animals and browse in the gift shop. Next we visited the town of Beauly while he explained the history and an old historic grave site and the oldest Sycamore tree dating back to 200 hundred years old. Next we visited Urquhart Castle which was a beautiful site, we toured the ruins of the Castle learnt a lot about the history at the end of the tour we were able to watch a movie about the Castle. After the Castle he took us to the town of Inverness where we visited an old historical church walk around the town of Inverness where we could shop or just enjoy the beautiful scenery. Next Billy took us to Clava Cairns where Highlander movie was filmed we also learnt the history of the sight and about the burial chambers and what's left of the mounds of rocks. We then visited The Culloden Battlefield where Billy gave us a brief history of what took place at the battlefield. After Culloden Billy took us to the Singleton Distillery where we sampled whiskey and learnt a lot about the different types of whiskey. We all had a fantastic day out with Billy

Had a fantastic day with our guide Bill for our tour. Very communicative prior to the tour. Met us as we got off our cruise ship and took us to all the tour sites along with a few others. Bill was very knowledgeable about the sites we visited and shared with us his knowledge of the history of each. His insights really added to our experience by helping us understand and appreciate the many years of history of our destinations visited, especially the significance of the battle of Culloden. I would not hesitate booking this tour. All in our group thought Bill gave us the best tour we’ve had on this trip. You will not be disappointed.

I don't know why you would not go here if visiting the Highlands of Scotland. The views are amazing. There is a nice little cafe where you can sit outside and take it all in and have a bite.
I would recommend without hesitation. We had a private tour for a day around Inverness (Loch Ness, Urquhart, Culloden, Beauly). Bill was great, very knowledgeable, eager to share about the region’s history and today’s reality. We learned a lot about the Scots! He took the time to show us some of his favorite pubs and around town. Thank you for a great day!

We had an amazing experience with Bill on our full-day tour of the Inverness area. We went to the Inverness area of Scotland via cruise ship. He picked us up right on time and made sure we got back to our ship with plenty of time. He personalized our tour based on needs and preferences. He was extremely knowledgeable of the area and its history. He took us to places that you would never see on a coach tour. One of the highlights was seeing a herd of highland cows up in the hills including a few babies. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone
