The driver brought our bicycles to us. He provided us with no directions to the Ruins. He said "follow the signs". The signs were not available and difficult to see most of the way until we got close to our destination. His instructions on the return trip were to "go back the way you came" which was next to impossible because we went through many little towns and villages that we turned on. Also, the signs were backwards as you could barely see them going out to the Ruins and could not see them at all on the way back. It was not a straight route. We got lost on the way back. When we called him to come and get us, he gave us no help. He gave us some very vague directions to "go back and turn right". We called several times telling him we were lost and asked him to come and get us....he refused. Finally he came and found us making excuses why he couldn't come and blaming us for getting lost. While we enjoyed the ride, there are apps that could provide you with routes (like Ride with GPS) and provide you with specific instructions like Google map. This driver was totally unacceptable. I would not recommend him.
The description of the activity is clear, we don't know how people with no experience in cycling and no sense of adventure book this type of activity. The suggested round trip routes are pilgrimage routes, Camino de Santiago, yellow signs heading south/north, and Rota Carmelite, blue signs heading north/south, where thousands of pilgrims pass. However, you are free to use whichever route you want, simply by entering the directions on Google Maps to guide you in the mere 16 km that separate Coimbra from the Ruins, you have the whole day to do it, and we have already made it easier for you by providing electric bikes to minimize fatigue. In this case, you felt lost, we first gave you instructions by message because you were 350 meters from the route and you went in the opposite direction without understanding what we were indicating. After seeing that they were not going the right way, in less than 20 minutes we were with the clients to pick them up in the van to take them to the start, which took us 5 minutes from the "lost" point to the starting point. We do not understand why the pejorative tone and the attempt to create an image of discrediting the activity and of myself demonstrated in the review. There are several reviews of our other activities and of myself so that you can clear up any doubts. We only suggest that you relax, you are on vacation, enjoy life and transform difficulties into achievements... at least try. Cheers
Really great highlight of our trip to Portugal! The cycling was quite hard (big hill getting out of Coimbra) but the bikes are really good quality so we just took our time and were rewarded with the views over the valley, small towns and the Roman ruins. Stopped for an espresso and pastel de nata in a town we would never otherwise have gone through. Recommend fully!
Hi Jessica, I'm glad the bikes responded on the climbs... :) and that you enjoyed every minute of this spectacular experience. I hope to be able to welcome you again on your next visit to Portugal and perhaps on a cycling tour program Thank you very much
Getting bikes was super convenient. Bikes were smooth, and we rode to Roman ruins passing through many interesting and quaint/non-touristy areas on the way to stop and relax. The ruins were incredible. Highly recommend this due to spot on logistics, uniqueness, and value.
Exploring the area to roman ruins by bike is the unique experience. Thanks for your spirit adventure
