La nostra destinazione è il magnifico patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO, la catena montuosa del Drakensberg. La Riserva Naturale Kamberg è stata creata nel 1951 per la sua bellezza naturale unica, la fauna selvatica e i siti storici di grotte rupestri. La riserva ha oltre 6200 ettari di montagne ondulate e valli profonde con una vasta rete di escursioni e sentieri. Il sito di Rock at the Rock delle Caverne è lungo più di 60 minuti dal campo e richiede un livello medio di allenamento da completare. Il paesaggio naturale ha molti rifugi di roccia, contenenti dipinti di roccia di San. Questi sono stati creati dal popolo San per un periodo di almeno 4000 anni. Le pitture rupestri sono eccezionali per qualità e diversità che rappresentano la vita spirituale della gente di San che non vive più nella regione.
Il prossimo è il Nelson Mandela Capture Site Statue e il Museo dell'Apartheid. Il sito di cattura vanta una grande scultura di Nelson Mandela composta da colonne in acciaio multiplo che si ergono tra i 6 ei 9 metri di altezza. I turisti che visitano il sito Capture devono trovarsi a 35 metri dal grande busto di Nelson Mandela per poterlo mettere in chiaro fuoco. Affacciandosi a ovest, l'imponente scultura crea un panorama unico per la comunità locale di Howick. Il museo è dedicato alla vita di Nelson Mandela e alla sua lotta contro il governo dell'Apartheid.
La prossima tappa sarà la piccola città di Howick per visitare la sua cascata. KwaNogqaza o Howick Falls è di circa 95 m di altezza e si trova sul fiume Umgeni. La gente locale dello Zulu la chiamò "la casa dell'alto" riferendosi alla sua altezza. Accanto alle cascate si trova una pittoresca vecchia sezione di Howick che ha una selezione di musei storici e negozi di antiquariato da visitare.

The guide Bule was great, super helpful and gave me many explanations. I am very happy with my experience and I would much recommend!
It was day full of adventures! From hiking up a mountain to refreshing sound of the waterfall. Bring lunch with you as you enjoy eating while on a scenic drive. Bule and Promise ( tour guides ) were amazing.
I did this tour with my best friend in March 2026 and enjoyed every bit. We especially love that they work with local people who know the area. Our driver, Buleh, was funny, considerate, and safe. He took great care of us and the long drive went by quickly because of the good conversation (and amapiano ;)). He has a natural sense for people and what they might need. It was also a treasure having Promise from the Kamberg Rock Art Centre show us around on the hike up to the San paintings. It's really nice to see 1st Zulu Safaris working with them, especially as I understand not many tour operators use the Kamberg guides when they do tours in the region. Overall, it was a long, tiring day, but worth it!
The day was full of experiences. Architecture, nature, hiking, waterfall, museum, history and ancient art - very varied program. You will be pleasantly tired by the end of the day and say 'It was worth doing it'. Not a lazy day:-). You go back 4 000 years in time... The cave paintings were the highlights of the day. Sotiris, our guide was helpful, informative and provided a pleasant day for us. We have good memories. Recommended.
Great, interesting. It's a pretty demanding one and a half hour climb up to the rock paintings, but you can go at your own pace. The area was pretty brown because it was almost winter, but that valley is very beautiful with green grass and flowers in the summertime.

A day tour with Fortune, who is very nice. Prepare for a long drive around 3.5hr to the mountain, but worthwhile. It is better to have the game pass with guide, so that you can go to the top and get some instructions on plants and culture. The museum at Mandela Capture site is beyond expectation, with clear history of ANC and Mandela, etc.

This tour is an amazing experience from start to finish! Our guide, Thami, is polite, warm, and enthusiastic. He arrives early for pick-up and provides detailed explanations at every stop. What stands out the most is his respectful and patient approach—he doesn’t ask personal questions and makes sure everyone feels comfortable throughout the journey without hesitation in providing assistance. The itinerary is well-planned, with a smooth flow between sites and well-timed stops. Even on weekends, there are no issues with site closures, making the trip hassle-free. This tour is highly recommended for history and nature lovers, offering a perfect blend of cultural significance and breathtaking landscapes. However, be prepared for nearly three hours of hiking in total.

Mandela capture site is well worth a visit. The drakensburg park is beautiful but the treck is not for the less able or older people
