Stephanie was a great guide and had water and rain ponchos available if it rained. Easy pick and info along the way. A great value if you didn't rent a car. www.kingwillianruleseverything.com
Pick up directly at hotel and dropped off back at hotel. Very clear instructions to meet up when hke was completed. Hike was great even though VERY VERY crowded. Worth it!!!!
Our family of 3 were picked up from our Waikiki Hotel before sunrise by our guide Stephanie. Nice ride over to Diamond Head in a well air-conditioned mini van with about 6 others. She pointed out notable spots on the way. Water bottles were provided and we were off. The hike is doable, but if you get winded climbing stairs, then maybe rethink it. Also, wear sneakers or hiking boots because the path up is not smooth...it is a little treacherous in spots. It got busier as we approached the top. It was like waiting for the summit on Everest. The good part of that is you can catch your breath while you enjoy the view and the breeze. By far the most difficult part was the middle part, which is why good footwear is crucial. The views on the summit are worth the climb, and the sunrise just added to the views. One thing to note is there are hand railings that will leave your hands rust colored. Plan to wash your hands when you return to the base visitors center. We highly recommend this excursion and this provider. It makes for a super convenient in and out.
Worth the effort and early am time slot. Very manageable hike that you proceed at your own pace. Driver was patient and timely.
The early morning Diamond Head hike was absolutely worth it! We definitely recommend going early before it gets too hot and crowded. The cooler temperatures made the hike much more enjoyable. The views from the top are breathtaking and make every step worth it. Standing there and taking it all in was a beautiful reminder of how wonderful the Lord is and how incredible His creation is. If you're visiting Oahu, don't miss this hike it was an unforgettable experience!
Perfect activity to do with my teenager. Beautiful views! Hike is moderate but short to do. Def worth it!
If you’re in decent shape, this hike shouldn’t be a problem. I enjoyed the hike because it was my first intense physical activity for the trip. I booked the tour with a group, but we hiked at our own pace. The park opens at 6 am and we were in by that time, however it was still a little crowded (ESPECIALLY AT THE TOP!). I heard the earlier you get there the better because the crowds get larger and it can get hotter throughout the day. After the hike, I enjoyed a delicious açaí bowl from one of the food trucks.
Great way to hike diamond head and have someone else figure the logistics. Driver picked us up at our hotel. Drove to entrance at sunrise and had our tickets all set. Also explained the hike so we knew what to expect. There are two different trail options. For most people take the easier route. Well worth it to have a guide especially if your first time. Beats taking the bus. It may be easy to Uber to the park but it might be difficult to get one back.
Wear comfortable secure shoes. I am not a hiker nor do I walk. Should exercise more. Was actually embarrassed about how out of shape I am. With all that said, it is a moderate hike for someone like me. Absolutely STUNNING views. You have olenty of time to take breaks, catch your breath and enjoy the views. Highly recommend the first tour of the day for the views and temperature. There is a short tunnel with minimal lighting so may need a flashlight if its dark outside or if it makes you nervous. Food trucks at the bottom were great. Also, no bathrooms on the trail itself so if you are taking your time and drinking lots of water...beware...lol. Great experience.
Get the earliest time slots for sunrise. Amazing experience, good workout. The only way to experience it, as tickets were sold out through city of Honolulu website. Parking availability was less of an issue than I’d been led to believe, but the trick is getting there right when the park opens at 0600. Bring water. Tons of stairs and uphill walking/switchbacks, but the pictures payoff makes it worthwhile.
