Star provided a great experience. We learned so much about agave spirits. It was a fun, educational evening. Star is very knowledgeable and a great story teller.
Star was great, and our whole group had an amazing time at the tasting! She was super knowledgeable, and answered all of our questions.
Star was a wonderful Agave guide. She came to our Air BnB during our girls trip. She is very knowledgeable and friendly. With the tasting you will learn about the growing, harvesting and distillation process as well as the difference between different agave spirts.
Several years ago I went on an amazing food tour and 6 years later rebooked another one just because I had such an amazing time! I couldn't remember which food tour company it was, so I just booked the company with the best reviews. In looking back on my pictures of my best foodie adventures I found a picture of Chacha! OH SO IT WAS THE SAME WONDERFUL FOODIE GUIDES AH! Since I've discovered Vallarta Local, I've gone on four foodie / tequila tasting adventures with Star and Chacha. Maybe I should get a repeat customer's discount?! There is something so special about eating authentic local food, with the enthusiasm and knowledge that both Star and Chacha share ..... We loved the taco tour so much, we've done that twice (the first time with Star, the second with Chacha) and always give Star's email address to all my friends who go to Vallarta. Last time, we had the Tequila and Mezcal Tasting at your place which was magical. We were staying at a hotel that did give me a serious hassle (just beware) however, we worked around that, and also ordered some additional food to pair with the tequilas and mezcal. It was a transporting experience. We are going BACK to Vallarta and plan on doing a bigger dinner thing, similar to the first time I went on a Vallarta Local foodie tour. I cannot recommend Vallarta Local foodie adventures enough! Star and Chacha expect us to contact you soon!
Star does a tasting that is a cut above the rest. Not only does she only feature high premium agave spirits she usually gets them straight from the distributors and has all sort of interesting history and tidbits about the spirits. She will come to you and has a beautiful kit full of all sorts of treats. She has great knowledge and tips and tricks for enjoying the drinks too. I honestly will never view tequila or agave spirits the same way again. An incredibly kind and fun presence Star could make anything fun and is especially good at introducing people to the world of agave.
Star is extremely knowledgeable not only about tequilas and mezcal but also the local food and culture scene. She’s also a lovely and engaging host. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening with her and highly recommend this!
Our guide was not terribly knowledgeable. Despite the description advertising ’how to spot a tourist trap’, we were sent to the biggest tourist trap store of them all, and told no less than 3 times to tell them who sent us. We were told that the duty free shops at the airport were tourist traps but they had the best prices of all. Lastly, I didn’t need to travel to Mexico to taste Cuervo!!
Hello Jean: I’m sorry this experience did not meet your expectations. While I’m not a producer myself during the tastings I share things like the history of Tequila, the process of making it from growing the agave all the way to bottling, regulations, taxes, fun facts, myths and legends, among other things that I learn during travels to different destinations around Mexico to visit distilleries, take tastings, take classes, talk to the maestros tequileros, maestros mezcaleros, as well as maestros Raicilleros to learn from the people who actually make these Agave distillate spirits, and not jus from vendors/wholesale liquor distributors. | The store I suggested -Vinos America on Basilio Badillo Street- is not a tourist trap, it’s a store well known in the neighborhood that offers quality products and well known brands. | I’ll be more than happy to meet you again after you come a second time to Puerto Vallarta and after you walk in to many shops to compare prices, quality, and brands, and most important: get to know the people who live here (both Mexicans and foreigners) who buy their tequila and other liquors and spirits at that so called ‘biggest tourist trap store of them all’ which I’m happy to keep on going to because they have the best retail price available for Clase Azul Tequila. | You tasted Clase Azul Blanco, Clase Azul Reposado, 1800 Añejo Cristalino, and 1800 Milenio Extra Añejo, and Volcan de mi Tierra Añejo Cristalino .Prices for some of these tequilas range from $70 - $130- $265 usd through online shops in the USA like: Caskers, Old Town Tequila, top shelf wine and spirits, to mention a few. Not cheap at all. Photos of the tequilas you sampled were on my website at the moment of your booking, as well as in all OTA’s (Online Travel Agencies) where I have advertised this experience. The line up today is different though as my commitment is to keep the tasting ‘fresh’ all the time. | I’m mystified by the comment about finding better prices at the airport, I always take photos of prices (even have a spreadsheet in Google Docs) so I can compare them to the prices offered in shops in Puerto Vallarta, after all I do want to get the best prices available. I usually check around 7-10 brands at the airport (the most popular ones) and so far I have not found them to be cheaper. Again, I’m mystified. Please let me know which brands and presentations you found to be cheaper. | I wish you would have experienced two things for yourself before leaving this review: 1. Walked into several places to compare brands, prices, and quality; 2.Getting to know the friendly vibe among locals in the neighborhood, that would help you in understanding why I said to please say hello to the clerk at the store. We -the locals- love our home, our sense of community, and the fact that we feel like a big family and send hellos whenever we can. | Lastly, being an Agave Spirit lover I’ll be more than happy to meet you again and change your mind about the experience, perhaps this time you’ll leave with a big smile and a happy heart. | Sincerely, Star.
