Come proprietario di un vigneto, enologo e studente di viticoltura posso offrire agli ospiti la mia esperienza e formazione uniche. Potrò mostrare loro da vicino e con esperienza pratica cosa serve per produrre vino dalla terra fino al processo di imbottigliamento. Inoltre, sono molto vicino alla comunità vinicola di Krems, il che mi offre l'opportunità di creare esperienze curate per i miei ospiti. Infine, nei miei 25 anni di carriera in IBM, ho lavorato con colleghi e partner provenienti da più di 50 paesi in tutto il mondo, ho esperienza internazionale con persone di ogni tipo di background e cultura.

Itinerario
Il fiume Donau ci guiderà durante il nostro tour della regione vinicola. Il tour durerà circa 2,5 ore e si trascorreranno 30 minuti guidando tra le diverse località.
Saliremo dal livello del mare a circa 400 metri attraverso alcune strade del vino per visitare Kapitel Zwei Wine, una micro-azienda vinicola nella regione. Kapitel Zwei o "Capitolo due" è un esperimento per coltivare in modo biologico e sostenibile vitigni francesi, tra cui Chenin Blanc, Roussanne e Sémillon, e invecchiarli in anfore e vasche d'acciaio a Krems an der Donau, in Austria. Le uve verranno raccolte a mano da un singolo vigneto o “appassite” chiamato Kremsleithen. È stato abbandonato decenni fa ed è stato ripiantato nel maggio 2022. Kremsleithen deriva dal ripido pendio (“Leiten” in tedesco) che scende verso il fiume Krems. Menzionato per la prima volta in documenti risalenti al 1266, è situato a 300 metri sul livello del mare ed è composto da terreno franco-sabbioso e argilloso.
La cantina Mantlerhof si trova nel comune di Gedersdorf, vicino al fiume Kamp, subito prima della sua confluenza con il Danubio. A ovest si vedono le luci della città di Krems, a est si intravedono le torri di Grafenegg. Se ti avvicini alla tradizionale cantina arrivi al centro del paese di Brunn im Felde. In mezzo a questo villaggio si trova un delizioso laghetto, sul lato occidentale di questo laghetto si trova un antico maniero con una facciata del primo classicismo. Questo antico maniero si chiama “Mantlerhof” una piccola azienda vinicola a conduzione familiare con una lunga storia. La famiglia Mantler gestisce il Mantlerhof da oltre 200 anni e affonda le sue radici nella produzione del vino già nel 1365. Lavoriamo 15 ettari di vigneti, dove produciamo vini biologici di lunga durata. Il loro focus è sul Grüner Veltliner e sul Roter Veltliner
Ulrike Filp e Robert Bormuth, insieme ai loro amici e familiari, sono le persone dietro la Weingut Feldtheorie. Durante gli studi di scienze naturali, hanno scoperto l'amore per il vino durante un viaggio in Nuova Zelanda. Una volta finiti gli studi sapevano: che la vinificazione sarebbe stata il fulcro della loro vita da quel momento in poi. Hanno viaggiato all'estero per stage in Germania, Australia e Austria prima di stabilirsi definitivamente a Wachau. Quando si è presentata l’opportunità di acquistare i propri appezzamenti di vigneti nella vicina Kamptal, non hanno esitato. Insieme lavorano in cantina e nei vigneti cercando di raggiungere un unico obiettivo: trasmettere a tutti l'unicità del Kamptal attraverso i nostri vini.
Visiteremo la cantina di spumanti WeinSchach. WeinSchach è convinto che la natura abbia tutto ciò che un vino straordinario deve offrire. Credono che il vino debba poi svolgersi liberamente nella bottiglia. Sviluppa il suo aroma completo e trova il suo equilibrio. L'obiettivo è un Pet Nat alla pari con i grandi spumanti di questo mondo. Per raggiungere questo obiettivo, stanno sperimentando. Vogliono arrivare al fondo delle possibilità. Anche se questo a volte significa tornare all'inizio. Sono convinti che da queste esperienze nascono grandi vini. E la logica conseguenza è che lavorano biologicamente nella produzione dei loro spumanti, raccolti a mano e degorgiati.
Termineremo il tour con una breve passeggiata di 7-10 minuti attraverso alcuni vigneti fino a un punto panoramico che domina la regione.

Attenzione: l'agenda è curata in base ai vostri interessi e gusti. Anche la tempistica è flessibile per quando e dove ci incontriamo. Se alloggiate a Vienna potete prendere un treno diretto per Krems (che è un bel giro lungo il fiume Donau) e posso incontrarvi alla stazione ferroviaria. Un'altra opzione è quella di arrivare a Krems in barca da Vienna e posso incontrarvi alla stazione dei battelli. Se queste opzioni non sono adatte possiamo coordinare un luogo da incontrare.

In my opinion this is a must do when visiting this area. These wine makers are passionate about making the wine and creating a sustainable environment, this experience is not to be missed.
Such a fantastic experience with Chris, what a guy! We really enjoyed our time with him, had great conversations, and learned a lot of stuff about the region and its wine scene. Being a bit new to the wine world, I never felt out of place and learned a bunch of stuff that I'll keep in my back pocket for sure. The whole experience was curated to our taste beforehand following some little messages exchanged with Chris, and he came and get us directly at our door the day of the event. The whole thing was super professional and was very well adapted to our style. Thanks to Chris, we tasted some great wines, met nice people, and saw places we would've never seen in Wachau otherwise. Seeing smaller producers felt so important and fun, what a privilege to have seen this! This is one of the highlight of our entire trip in the valley. Chris is an amazing guide! Not only is he extremely knowledgeable in the wine making process but also knows everything about the history of the region. Kapital Zwei wines are delicious as well…highly recommend, you won’t regret it.

We left for this tour from Vienna. We did have to figure out how to get from our ship to the pick up point which was near the Schönbrunn Palace. After that, the tour was amazing. At the first stop, it was a small winery, and we tasted several wines from the beginning of the fermentation process to the finished product. It was very educational. The Venner’s were really nice and accommodating in the wines or explained in their uniqueness. This was well worthwhile.

If you want an experience that is wine-forward but wrapped in history, countryside and local, small production vineyards, this it it for you! You’ll read other reviews about how great Chris is as your guide throughout the experience, and it is all true. Knowledgeable, personable and focused in the future of wine making and sustainability… it was fascinating. And to walk on Chris’s vineyard was amazing and frankly the best views on our Vienna trip.

Chris took us on a trip to visit 2 boutique wineries in the wine-growing region near Vienna. It was a pure delight. We were greeted by the winery owner at each place and given a description of their wine-making craft and intent. We were then served tastings of many of their products while they told us about themselves, their winery and the wine we were tasting. Chris, himself, owns/rents several small vineyards in the area and is actively engaged in making wine himself. We walked some of his vineyards and he told us of the history of wine-making in the area and the recent/current state of the industry there. Overall very enjoyable and a unique, small group experience.

Can’t recommend this tour enough - we had the best experience! Chris was an amazing guide and catered the tour to our level of experience (which was low) and wine preferences. The wineries we visited were stunning and Chris’s winemaker friends were lovely hosts. We tried MANY different local wines and loved them - we will definitely be looking for more Austrian wines back in the states!
