Il monastero di Voronet fu costruito nel 1488 a tempo di record: tre mesi, tre settimane e tre giorni, oggi facente parte del patrimonio UNESCO. I murales esterni hanno conservato le loro tonalità nonostante secoli di tempo inclemente, ma gli ingredienti utilizzati nella preparazione delle vernici sono ancora un mistero. Le scene nei murali raffigurano, come un film, la storia del cristianesimo, presentate in modo originale, molto influenzate dalle credenze popolari, dalla cultura orientale, ma anche dal pensiero ortodosso.
Il monastero di Moldovita, inserito nel patrimonio dell'UNESCO nel 1993, fu costruito tra il 1532 e il 1537. Per centinaia di anni, i murales erano l'unico modo per gli abitanti della campagna non istruiti di conoscere gli insegnamenti della Bibbia. Gli affreschi sono un'enorme illustrazione a colori di scene bibliche, adattate alla storia del luogo e ai momenti importanti della vita della comunità.
Il monastero di Sucevita è il più nuovo dei monasteri dipinti della Bucovina ed è stato inserito nel patrimonio dell'UNESCO nel 1993. È stato costruito in stile moldavo, con influenze gotiche e bizantine. I murales sono dominati da una sfumatura di verde, ottenuta attraverso un'antica tecnica dai pigmenti naturali.

Excellent guide Customized program

We had an absolutely amazing experience on the day trip from Iași to the Painted Monasteries in Bucovina, and a huge part of that was thanks to our guide, Leo. From the very beginning, Leo was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. He shared fascinating historical and cultural insights at every stop, making each monastery come alive in a way that you simply wouldn’t get on your own. His passion for the region was truly contagious. The trip was perfectly organized, relaxed, and enjoyable throughout. The places themselves are superb, steeped in history, spirituality and striking architectural beauty. But what really made this tour exceptional was our guide. One of the main reasons we went to Iasi, was to do the Rolandia tour company's Moldova tour, but since we were in this area, we signed up for this tour as well. Leo (Leonard) was our guide, and again he was fantastic. This trip was a lot of driving, but it was really interesting seeing the Romanian countryside and small villages as we whizzed by. Seeing the Stork nests on the street posts throughout the drive was also a pleasant surprise. The three monasteries that we visited were well worth the trip. My favorite was the first stop, but they were all interesting. Leo told us a lot about each of them and made sure we understood as much as possible about each of the monasteries and their artwork. We also stopped at a high point with a neat wooden swing overlooking the countryside, and for lunch in a nice restaurant. We did this trip the day after the Moldova trip- again, two long days, but a very perfect way to see this part of the world.

The experience in the monasteries was unforgettable. The guide was excellent. He described in detail the meaning and value of the frescoes painted outside and inside the monasteries. I recommend this tour with a closed eye.
