Great guide & driver! Here’s a review of my three day trip: Day One: 7 of us with a tour guide and a driver in a van. Every seat was taken, and it felt very crowded. We drove two hours to lunch (Mandal Restaurant near Lun) and chose what we wanted to eat at a roadside stop. We then kept driving two more hours to the Semi-Gobi desert. It had rained too much for us to ride camels today; it was too muddy. We kept driving for another hour. We arrived to Kharakorin and went to a calligraphy museum. We got to try writing in the ancient script. There were multiple gers with art exhibits that we walked through. We then drove to camp, which was very close. The four girls on the tour stayed in one ger and the three boys stayed in a separate ger. We had an hour before dinner was served at 7:30. There was a show with instruments and throat singing offered at 9:00 for $10. The shower was very cold, and there was one hair dryer available. Day two: breakfast at 8:00 and leave camp at 9:00. We drove to the Kharakorin museum and had a museum tour guide who guided us through the indoor museum. The ger behind the museum housed toys and games along with horse milk & cheese for us to try. We then drove to Erdene Zuu Monastery for a tour. Next, we got to wear costumes and take pictures around the gate and the inside of the Monastery. Next up was lunch. There were lots of options to choose from. We were there for over 2 hours. It took about 45 min for our food to arrive, and then we saw and waited for a long time after lunch. I’m not sure what we were waiting for. Water is not provided on the tour, so we stopped to go shopping at a grocery store before heading towards the semi Gobi. The drive was around an hour, and when we arrived, we rode camels. The ride was mostly outside the sand dune area; we entered the sandy area to take a picture and then turned around. We were not given any time to walk around or explore the semi Gobi. We then drove to our camp site for the night, which was about 10k away into the wilderness. The location was so beautiful and peaceful. We had some free time to walk around, and some of us decided to climb up the mountain nearby. We then had 30-minute horse rides around the mountain before dinner was served. It was a soup with noodles, vegetables, and mutton. Day three: breakfast at the campsite at 8:00. Breads, jam, fresh cream, and eggs. Depart at 9:00 for Erdene Khamba Monastery. After our tour, we drove to a roadside stop to buy water and use a toilet. Then we drove for over 2 hours to lunch. Unfortunately, it was the same lunch stop that we stopped at on the way out of town. It has lots of options, but if given the choice, I would have preferred to go somewhere else. What would have made this tour five stars: 1. At least an hour of free time in Kharakorin. There were shops set up near the museum, but we weren’t given time to look at them at all. Our lunch took way longer than necessary. We could have spent less time at lunch and had free time in the shops. We didn’t have an opportunity on the tour for shopping at all - other than at grocery stores to purchase water. 2. At least an hour free time in the semi Gobi desert. I saw pictures from other tourists on the same trip in the desert. My group was given no time in the desert, which was disappointing. 3. Not repeating lunch stop locations. We ate at the same place twice. There were many other options that we drove by, but it seemed like the location we ate at had many tourists and took a long time. The food was also not great. Overall, I don’t know how I could have done this trip differently unless I rented a car. It was good, but I do not plan to recommend it to my friends.
Definitely recommend this 3-day trip to visit the interior of Mongolia. The landscapes are stunning and it’s a great opportunity to get to know more about Mongolian culture. I’m glad Tom was our tour guide in this experience- the best guide ever.
Excellent, Excellent trip! My tour guide Sanchi was absolutely amazing. She was very well informed of all the sites and related history. There was never a dull moment with her. I appreciated how she always found different activities for us to do. U really need to request her on your tour. I have been to over 130 countries and this is definitely a tour worth taking. Learned so much about Mongolia. Will definitely visit again!
The trip to the Mongolian countryside was very interesting and it was very good organised. The guide was very good and helpful.
ChingGor is our tour group leader, he is young and just 24 years old, he might lack experience is some aspect but we could feel his passion and effort, we all appreciate his assist within these 3 days tour.
It’s an awesome trip. Especially with the greatest guide in Mongolia - Bumi. You can get any answer from him. And the karakorum is really cool place. Make me keep thinking about history class. Please ride camel. So relax
This tour was the perfect way to experience Mongolian life outside of the city. We stayed in yurts both nights, the first in a yurt hotel with running water and the second with a nomadic family. We visited several historical sites and temples, rode both horses and camels, and dressed in traditional attire for a photo shoot with a golden eagle. Our guide Tom was amazing!!! He has so much passion and knowledge and really made the experience. He was also so kind to help coordinate meals for the three vegetarians in our group.
3 day tour, went with a group of 10 people. The tour guide, Sanchi, did a great job telling everything about culture, history, people, and buddhism, a very outgoing person too. She also made sure everyone is comfortable and enjoying the trip. We all went to Mini Gobi first, everyone got to ride some camels and enjoy the views. It was very beautiful, there were sand dunes, green steppes, mountains, and a lake, all in one place! After that visited a calligraphy museum, tried out writing our names in Mongolian traditional script, also got to see different calligraphy art exhibitions there. For the first night stopped at a tourist camp, it had all the commodities (there was a cafe, showers), cellular was good too. Visited Kharkorum museum the next day, learned about the history of the city, visited the Erdene Zuu monastery while wearing deel, too. Then, went back to Mini Gobi, eveyone rode horses, we also visited another monastery, Erdene Khamba. Spent the night in gers, being welcomed in an authentic nomad household (this time there were no commodities like running water, or stable cellular). You could also pay extra to stay at a tourist resort nearby. There were plenty of chances to try different Mongolian dishes, the tour included breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and there was reasonable food variety, too (most dishes would have some veggies, beef, noodles). Overall a very fun tour, got to see and learn about a lot of things. Would pretty much recommend it to anyone and everyone.
I had a fantastic time on this 3-day tour from Ulaanbaatar to central Mongolia and back. My guide and driver, Ao, was excellent: friendly, polite, knowledgeable, and genuinely engaging to talk to. He played a huge role in making the experience so positive and memorable. On Day 1, I was picked up around 9am in Ulaanbaatar and we drove to Kharkhorin. Although it was a long journey, we made regular stops for snacks, drinks, and a relaxed lunch of local food. Despite the winter conditions, Ao always drove very safely, which was reassuring. In Kharkhorin, we visited the museum, where Ao shared insightful explanations and answered many questions about Mongolian history. That evening, we stayed in a ger at a campsite — as it was low season, we were the only guests, which made it feel like a private stay. On Day 2, we visited the stunning Erdene Zuu Monastery. Watching and listening to the monks’ prayers was a powerful experience; although photography and recording aren’t allowed, the monastery livestreams the prayers on Facebook. We then travelled to snow-covered sand dunes, which were absolutely breathtaking. Thanks to the low season, I had plenty of time to explore and climb the dunes completely on my own. Later, we stayed with a nomadic family in their ger. As a storm was forecast for the following day, we brought forward the camel riding. On horseback with the family’s father, we helped herd their camels back to camp before riding them at sunset. The day ended with making traditional Mongolian dumplings together before settling in for the night. The third day (when you normally would have done the camel riding), was us having breakfast at the family's camp before starting the drive back to Ulaanbaatar. We were able to miss the storm, so the drive was smooth. We got back in good time, but the traffic in Ulaanbaatar was pretty bad, so it still took some time to get to the hotel. I would recommend this tour and Ao to anyone visiting Mongolia! I loved every minute of it!
