Alcune destinazioni sono bellissime. Alcune sono storiche. Pochissimi sono entrambi - e quasi nessuno viene con una storia che nessun altro sta raccontando. Belene Island si trova nel mezzo del Danubio tra Bulgaria e Romania. In un solo giorno straordinario ti troverai dove i soldati romani controllavano la frontiera dell'Impero, entrerai in una chiesa che divenne un santuario per i martiri giustiziati per la loro fede, camminerai attraverso il più significativo campo di lavoro dell'era comunista della Bulgaria e guarderai i pellicani dalmati planare sulle zone umide del Danubio. Ma ecco cosa rende questo tour davvero unico. Il campo comunista chiuse nel 1989 - eppure Belene Island non smise mai di essere un luogo di confino. Qui opera oggi una prigione attiva, proprio accanto al parco commemorativo e alle rovine romane. La storia qui non è dietro il vetro. Sta ancora succedendo. Massimo 8 ospiti. Fermata 1 - Belene Town : Dogana Romana Dimum e Chiesa Cattolica Ubicazione: Belene città, Bulgaria settentrionale - circa 3 ore da Sofia Tempo alla fermata: circa 1 ora La prima tappa è la città di Belene, dove due straordinari capitoli della storia siedono fianco a fianco. La dogana romana Dimum, costruita alla fine del I secolo a.C., era un posto di frontiera che controllava il movimento attraverso il Danubio ai margini del mondo conosciuto. Poi la Chiesa cattolica della Natività della Beata Vergine Maria, costruita nel 1860 - un santuario a Monseigneur Eugene Bosilkov e altri tre sacerdoti arrestati e giustiziati nel 1952. Il loro crimine era la fede. Bosilkov è stato beatificato da Papa Giovanni Paolo II nel 1998. Duemila anni di storia in una breve passeggiata.
Fermata 2 - Il Checkpoint : Attraversare l'isola di Persin Ubicazione: checkpoint di Persin Island, Belene Tempo di sosta: circa 10 minuti Questo è il momento che rende Belene diversa da qualsiasi altro tour in Bulgaria. Per entrare nell'isola di Persin è necessario passare attraverso un controllo di sicurezza formale gestito dal Ministero della Giustizia bulgaro. Oggi sull'isola opera una prigione attiva - accanto al parco commemorativo, alle rovine romane e alla riserva naturale. Il tuo permesso, organizzato per tuo conto, deve essere registrato in anticipo. Senza di esso, l'ingresso viene rifiutato. Questa non è una ricostruzione della storia. È storia, ancora in uso.
Fermata 3 - Lager 1 e Lager 2 : Parco della memoria Località: Persin Island, Belene Tempo alla fermata: circa 1 ora e 30 minuti Dal 1949 al 1989, più di 20.000 persone sono passate attraverso i due campi di Belene - intellettuali, sacerdoti, insegnanti, ufficiali il cui unico crimine è stato pensare liberamente. Ciò che rimane è conservato come parco commemorativo - fondazioni, filo arrugginito, postazioni di torri di guardia, testimonianze di sopravvissuti. Fermata 4 - Parco Naturale Persina Ubicazione : Isola di Persin orientale - zona umida designata Ramsar Tempo di sosta: circa 1 ora (in base alle condizioni stagionali) E poi l'isola ti sorprende completamente. Il Parco Naturale di Persina è una delle destinazioni più belle per il birdwatching nell'Europa sudorientale - ospita oltre 220 specie tra cui pellicani dalmati, aquile di mare, cormorani minori e oche dal petto rosso. Gli avvistamenti della fauna selvatica dipendono dalla stagione e dalle condizioni e non possono essere garantiti, ma la passeggiata nella zona umida stessa - spostandosi dal peso del parco commemorativo in questo straordinario santuario naturale - è una delle transizioni più inaspettate nel turismo bulgaro. This tour was so fun, I went with another friend and we had our tourguide Velko pick us up from the meeting point and drive us into the mountain where we trekked up Vitosha. We bought the snowshoes but we did not end up needing them in the end (a shame but can't be helped) as the snow wasn't that deep. The wind was quite strong on the day we hiked and so Velko gave us the options of going to the summit or going around a different way to avoid the wind, so we picked that. Velko was very talkative and knowledgeable and even though it was windy and we had a bit of a white out it was very fun and we all had a good time. We went to the cafe to have lunch and Velko told us which Bulgarian foods to try (they were very tasty) and then we went to the spa which was lovely (although bring your own shoes and towels). Overall we had a great day and the tour was one of our highlights of the trip, I recommend Velko as your guide :)
I was ready for the trip and when I came out, I found that I was the soul traveler for this tour in my guide ‘Velko’ was waiting for me and he made sure that I had the right clothing to be safe and warm. I felt like.’VIP’ not just because I was the only tourist, but Velko was great guide. He is expert on mountains and very professional. He made sure to show me and explained to me everything. He cared for my safety. He even took photos of me.’bonus’. So for me, this was the best organized tour ever that I will remember for a long time.

Lyobo was an awesome guide. Great workout. Entire experience was other worldly of you've never been hiking in the snow. We went during snowfall so no views of Sofia but even without that it was perfect. The hut at the top served some divine bulgarian soups and meat after making the ascend.
Velko is hands down the ultimate tour guide! From snowshoeing adventures in Vitosha Mountain to blissful dips in hot springs, every moment was an absolute blast. His wealth of historical knowledge kept us entertained and enlightened throughout the journey. Plus, his friendly demeanor made the whole experience feel like exploring with a long-lost buddy. Thanks to Velko, it was more than just a tour – it was a day filled with laughs, learning, and unforgettable memories!
This activity was one of the best experiences of my life. We had a guide called Dobrin he was extremely knowledgeable about the country and patient. We were two females travelling together and he made us both feel safe and secure in his hands. He made my friends Birthday a very special occasions by acknowledging her day and even singing birthday songs. We then were taken to the hot springs which again was so relaxing and peaceful. Dobrin is a safe driver and took care on the road to ensure our safety. I would strongly recommend this activity.
Best experience ever. Our tour guide Dobrin went to the extra mile to give us a memorable experience. We visited the top of the mountain, had a blast snowwalking hike, took great pictures and went to the hot water springs for a perfect finish to the trip
I really recommend this trip! We all had a great time, our guide Dobrin was very friendly, professional and caring he followed the team tempo and waited for everyone and also was very familiar with the mountain, was very interesting hike up to Vitosha mountain with panoramic view of Sofia! And at the end he take us to spa with very warm outdoor pool was perfect option to relax after the hiking!!
Had a blast trip. The entire trip was perfect. Dobrin, our guide is very knowledgeable and went the extra mile to ensure everything was perfect. We hiked in the snow for around 3 hours and Dobrin emanated to show us all the good spots. Would recommend to anyone who visits Bulgaria Thank you Dobrin for making my trip to Bulgaria memorable
