1. La diga, conosciuta anche come la città costruita sugli alberi: a causa del suolo di Amsterdam costituito da uno spesso strato di palude e argilla, alcuni edifici della città sono costruiti su pali di legno fissati in uno strato sabbioso di circa 11 metri di profondità. Sin dai tempi antichi, si sapeva che le case di Amsterdam erano state costruite su pali di fondazione in legno che venivano conficcati in profondità nell'argilla, nella torba e nell'acqua fino a raggiungere il primo strato di sabbia solida.
L'area fa parte del Quartiere a Luci Rosse, in particolare, parte dell'area della Città Vecchia. Quindi questa è la parte più antica della città, ecco perché c'è anche molta storia.
Pub The Ape, noto anche come Int Aepjen in olandese. Costruito intorno al 1540 e uno dei due rimanenti edifici in legno è rimasto ad Amsterdam. Il che è molto speciale in quanto ci fu un grande incendio nel 1452 e dopo quel momento il governo decise che gli edifici avrebbero dovuto avere facciate in mattoni.
La Waag era una delle porte della città di Amsterdam, una parte delle mura difensive. Fu costruito intorno al 1400 ed è il secondo edificio più antico di Amsterdam. In seguito fu adibita a corporazione, organizzazioni di artigiani, ubicate all'interno della Waag e intorno alla piazza.
La casa più piccola di Amsterdam fu costruita intorno al 1700 e fu inizialmente utilizzata come deposito per la società commerciale VOC. In seguito le persone hanno iniziato a vivere in casa per molto tempo.

Ben was very entertaining with all his stories. He kept the tour very interesting. There is so much more than you can imagine within the History of Amsterdam.
Fun and informative tour with a wonderful guide. Very aware of the ages involved and was cognizant of informational impact.
Ben was the guide. Nice guy and we saw some unique events. He was too much of a story teller on tales that were off topic for the content of the tour.

It was a crazy day to do the tour as it was King’s Day. Guide was knowledgeable but unfortunately werenot able to see all the sites

Highly recommend this tour. This is a big part of Amsterdam history. We did the 1800 tour that is more family friendly and was ideal for my 17 year old, the later tour I would keep for adults only. Our tour guide was amazing and we learnt a lot

VERy BAD Experience. If you are in Amsterdam the pst 3-4 days, you know the weather is not good. It is very difficult to walk on an icy street. We arrived at the meeting place at 6:02. We suppose to meet at 6:00. I messaged the operator. I called. Meanwhile, i did not receive any updates or message from the operator. When we arrived the (small group) left. No one was there. We waited until 6:15. We were so disappointed. Bad Tour operator for not giving us a chance even for 2 mins. My other tours in Tripadvisor and Get your-guide give at least 5 mins allowance to wait…they call the clients… I am not doing anymore any Viator tour. What a shame!

The tour was rich in history as well as the tour of the red light district. Ben articulated history and related and well.
we did the tour with Ben he was grate. very informative. we arrived a little earlier for the tour so we when for a little walk in the area but after the tour walking the same route we had much more appreciation for the area and customs. highly recommend this tour if its your thirst time to Amsterdam then it is a must
