Scoprirai la storia dell'ascesa al potere del partito comunista rumeno e l'ineguagliabile culto della personalità del dittatore Nicolae Ceausescu, in piedi davanti al suo iconico balcone. Imparerai come la brama di applausi di Ceausescu ha portato al suo ribaltamento nella rivoluzione anticomunista più violenta del 1989. Andrai fuori dai sentieri battuti e approfitterai dei grandi mezzi pubblici di Bucarest per raggiungere il Cimitero Memoriale degli Eroi del 1989 e un Monumento unico per i leader del partito comunista. In un tour pieno di contrasti imparerai la vita quotidiana durante il comunismo, l'economia, la propaganda, il rapporto con la religione, la paura della polizia segreta. Esplorerai anche il Centro Civico e l'esterno del Palazzo del Parlamento e imparerai a conoscere le conquiste degli architetti, ma anche i sacrifici per la comunità locale, le demolizioni durante gli anni '80. Finirai la passeggiata su Unirii Boulevard, vicino al Parlamento e alla città vecchia.

Sarete al KM0 della libertà di parola rumena, dove i primi eroi morirono per la libertà a Bucarest il 21 dicembre 1989, e disfarete l'attuale clima politico in Romania.
Viaggerai fuori dai giri battuti dai mezzi pubblici per esplorare un tipico quartiere operaio e vedere come i blocchi grigi comunisti degli anni '70 vengono reinventati grazie alla colorata street art.

Fantastic time! My first morning in Romania I spent 3 hours walking with Elena, learning her nation’s history. We walked, took the subway & a public bus, seeing different parts of this great city, and learning its history along the way. By the time we parted ways, I had developed feelings for the this country. Its contemporary story felt real. My respect for its people grew.
