My dad and I had a phenomenal experience on a day trip to Chobe National Park from Victoria Falls with Cuckoo Safaris and the Botswana-based sister company Puku Safaris. I have done a multi-day safari in Chobe on a previous trip, and I was worried that it would not be possible to experience the same magnificent wildlife, scenery, and intimacy on a day trip where time is a limiting factor. In fact, everything was just as good, and I actually think we managed to see almost as much of the park as I saw over four days before. I share this in the hopes that other travel planners who worry about having the *perfect* experience will feel encouraged to make time for the Chobe day trip if staying in Chobe is not an option - of course, I also have to recommend staying at one of the safari lodges in Chobe :) The morning began with a relaxed drive from Vic Falls to the Kazungula Border, where everything went smoothly and we met our safari guide, Vusi. We got lucky and happened to end up with a private tour for the day, but the experience would also be fine with other people! The morning boat tour was fantastic thanks to our boat guide, July. I was skeptical about doing the boat in the morning, but I am so glad we did because there were hardly any other boats out on the river. The timing was perfect so that animals were just beginning to come down to the river to escape the growing heat. Lunch at the fancy Cresta Mowana Hotel was excellent - buffet style and included in the booking price. Vusi truly made the trip with his passion and care on the afternoon game drive. We saw many of the major species within the first hour and spent the rest of the time searching for a pride of lions, which we finally found! We finished the game drive around 17:00 and were back for dinner in Vic Falls by 18:30. Thank you Vusi and July for the smooth and memorable experience! I hope to come back for one of your camping safaris to Savute and the salt pans!
All the drivers/guides were individually friendly and helpful but the trip was not well coordinated- the other family with us said that it felt like it was everyone's first day on the job! On the safari part there were no drinks for us- the driver apologised and said they forgot to give him the cooler. To his credit he did give the kids in our vehicle snacks. When we arrived for lunch, much of the food had gone and wasn't replaced. Our water safari was good, and he had been given drinks for us but no cooler, so stopped to get one- we got about 2.5hours land safari and 1.5hours river experience in the trip. When the cruise was over he wasn't sure where we should meet our guide, so he left us off at the starting point& it took maybe 15-20min for our driver to locate us. We had a good day but I'm not sure we would've done it had we known the amount of "down time"
Dear Patricia, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you found all of our drivers and guides friendly and helpful, and that you enjoyed the game drive and boat cruise. We sincerely apologize for the coordination issues you experienced during your tour. The missing cooler and drinks on the game drive, the lunch service, and the confusion at the end of the boat cruise are not the standard we aim to provide. We have already discussed these matters with our operations team and partners to ensure better coordination in the future. Regarding the downtime, border formalities and the transfer between activities are unfortunately part of a day trip to Chobe National Park from Victoria Falls. While we always strive to minimize waiting times, some delays can occur depending on border traffic and operational logistics on the day. Your comments are valuable and will help us improve the overall experience for future guests. Thank you again for choosing Cuckoo Safaris, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for an even better safari experience.
What a great tour. We got picked up at our hotel in Zambia and drove to the border where the guide gather all people from the tour. We started by a land safari where we got to see a lot of animals in their environment. After lunch by the park we boarded a small boat to see them from and in the river. It was magical. Our guide was absolutely brilliant giving us so much information about each species and having a great sense of humour.
Everything listed In their description was 100% accurate. Pick up at hotel. Help at the boarder crossings. Amazing river cruise. Amazing buffet lunch. Amazing wildlife sightings. Very knowledgeable guides. I know you can’t predict where the animals will be, but it’s like we didn’t even have to try and we got to see baboons, elephants, warthogs, antelope, impalas, hippos, water buffalo, lions, giraffe, guinea hens, and even a python. We even witnessed 3 lions hunt and kill a water buffalo. It was incredible.
Chobe is a great day safari. We saw a lot of wildlife. Our guide was knowledgeable and fun.

What a fantastic well organised excursion. Blessing was our friendly driver to Chobe from Victoria Falls Zimbabwe. We had a very good river guide, sadly do not remember his name. Very competent and informative. Wonderful sightings of the Hippos and Crocs. Elephants and Buffalo too. Amazing birdlife on the Chobe River. Lunch was superb in a new Boma area. Great selection of mains with dessert. Our afternoon game drive with Vusi was a highlight too. To see a pride of 8 lions at close range was truly a blessing. Such majestic creatures. A great trip which we can highly recommend.

Thank you for your recommendation and for choosing Cuckoo Safaris. We hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable African adventure!
Very well organized tour, starting from the pickup, driving upto Botswana border, Immigration clearance on both sides. boat and land safari at Chobe national park and return, was very well organized. Our driver/guide at both borders were very helpful, especially getting visa for us at Botswana border. The boat safari in the morning was very enjoyable, spotted elephants, few buffaloes and hippos. The high point was an elephant swimming across the river. Lunch was fine. The afternoon safari was a bit disappointing. Half of the time was spent in driving into the Chobe national park. Our driver seemed to be in a hurry, but stopped to greet the driver of every passing vehicle. Didn't get time to click pictures properly. We spotted a lion pride, which was great I definitely recommend this tour and wish the Agency educate their Driver to focus on giving their customers a memorable visit, rather than just doing their job.

This wasn't on our original itinerary having done previous safaris. However, we ended up with a free day and our Avani driver suggested it so we decided to go. Glad we did. It turned out to be a highlight of our trip. The resident lion pride had killed a baby elephant the day before and were feeding on it. A National Geographic moment.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're delighted that you decided to join the safari, even though it wasn't part of your original plans, and even more thrilled that it became one of the highlights of your trip. Witnessing the resident lion pride on a fresh elephant kill is an incredibly rare and unforgettable sight—a true glimpse into the raw beauty of nature. Moments like these remind us that every safari is unique and full of surprises. Thank you for choosing to explore with us. We hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable African adventure!
This was an amazing safari! It’s a cannot miss experience when visiting Victoria Falls. Our day started with the boat tour led by July. He was polite and kind-natured. He really made it a point to get as close as he could for pictures all while sharing incredible details about the animals. For the game tour, we had Vusi. Vusi was fun and adventurous. He wanted to ensure that we saw the big four on our tour and strategized to make that happen. Rhinos aren’t in Chobe so that’s the only animal that we didn’t see. I highly recommend this tour!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are delighted to hear that you had such an amazing safari experience with us. We'll be sure to pass your kind words on to July and Vusi—they will be thrilled to know they helped make your day so memorable. It's great to hear that July's knowledge and dedication to getting you the best wildlife views, along with Vusi's enthusiasm and determination to find the Big Four, made your Chobe adventure so special. Thank you for recommending our tour. It was a pleasure hosting you, and we hope to welcome you back to Africa for another unforgettable safari in the future!
