Un tour dei bellissimi monasteri e chiese bizantine di Cipro porta i visitatori in un viaggio storico e spirituale attraverso i Monti Troodos, mostrando il profondo patrimonio religioso dell'isola e gli splendidi affreschi medievali. Situata nel villaggio di Meniko, la Chiesa di Cipriano e Giustina è dedicata ai Santi Cipriano e Giustina, venerati per i loro poteri miracolosi contro la stregoneria e gli spiriti maligni. Questa chiesa, risalente al periodo medievale, attira pellegrini in cerca di protezione e guarigione. L'atmosfera serena all'interno, insieme all'impressionante iconostasi, ne fa un luogo di profonda devozione. Seconda fermata: Chiesa della Vergine Maria Assinou. Spostandoci sui pittoreschi monti Troodos, arriviamo alla Chiesa della Vergine Maria Assinou, patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO. Questa chiesa del XII secolo è famosa per i suoi vivaci affreschi bizantini, tra i più belli di Cipro. I murales ben conservati raffigurano scene della Bibbia, offrendo una narrazione visiva degli insegnamenti cristiani. L'eleganza architettonica della chiesa, unita ai suoi tesori artistici, la rende una meta imperdibile sia per gli storici che per i cercatori spirituali.
Arroccata su una collina nei pressi di Kakopetria, questa chiesa è famosa per il suo tetto in legno ripido, una caratteristica distintiva progettata per proteggerla dalle forti nevicate. Risalente all'XI secolo, Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis (San Nicola del Tetto) è adornato da alcuni degli affreschi bizantini meglio conservati di Cipro, che abbracciano diversi secoli. Le vivide raffigurazioni di Cristo, santi e angeli offrono un viaggio artistico e teologico attraverso la storia bizantina.
Un altro patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO, questa chiesa del XV secolo a Pedoulas è famosa per il suo eccezionale affresco dell'Arcangelo Michele, raffigurato con colori vivaci e una presenza suggestiva. L'architettura della chiesa è semplice, ma l'interno è riccamente decorato con dipinti dettagliati che riflettono il patrimonio artistico tardobizantino dell'isola. Pedoulas in sé è un villaggio affascinante, perfetto per una passeggiata rilassante e gustare dolci tradizionali ciprioti.
Questa piccola ma significativa cappella, dedicata alla Vergine Maria, è una delle prime chiese dipinte di Cipro, risalente al 1280. Situata nel pittoresco villaggio di Moutoullas, la chiesa presenta un tetto spiovente in legno e affreschi ben conservati che riflettono l'influenza degli stili bizantino e cipriota locale. Anche se di modeste dimensioni, il valore artistico della chiesa la rende un luogo da visitare per coloro che sono interessati all'arte e alla storia bizantina.
Stop finale: Monastero di San Giovanni Lampadiste. Concludendo il nostro tour, arriviamo al Monastero di San Giovanni Lampadiste a Kalopanagiotis. Questo monastero, patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO, è un complesso di chiese interconnesse con strati di affreschi risalenti all'XI-XV secolo. Il monastero è dedicato a San Giovanni Lampadiste, un venerato santo locale noto per i suoi miracoli. L'ambiente tranquillo, combinato con il ricco patrimonio storico e artistico, rende questa una degna conclusione del nostro viaggio.

The landscapes were amazing and the churches were very well preserved. Our guide was very interested and informed about the churches and monasteries and also about the culture. She taught us a lot about the habits of the local people and the history of Cyprus through the churches. I would recommend this tour.

I booked the tour and I got an email "pick up and location &time: Leonardo boutique hotel 9:05". I was there, waiting. At half past ten I phoned them and they said, that the tour was cancelled. I was furious—I had planned this trip for that day. For a normal company, that's unacceptable behavior.

This was my second experience in the Troodos mountains, which I missed first time in Cyprus. In winter such excursions are not daily. Also in this one we saw a Christmas village at the end, which were the topic of the first one. 5 UNESCO churches out of the 9+1 were to be seen, but one was closed because of the Epiphanie. However, the first church was Saint Ciprian, who was from Cyprus. The time was tight and the excursion was rather 9 1/2 hours, so exactly suitable in winter, even if one of the churches was closed. Some of the churches are outside the villages and there are great mountain perspectives. Constantin and Elena are always depicted. The last church (Saint John) is a functioning monastery with a shop.
Very interesting thanks to the very good guide/driver. Irina. She told us a lot of things about the churches, but also about Cyprus. Really interesting things. No funny jokes. We were in a small group (3 persons + Irina) in a very comfortable car.
I highly recommend this excursion, alone it is worth the whole trip and for myself I think it is the most beautiful excursion to do in Cyprus. Our guide Catherine was an exceptional guide explaining every aspect that concerned both the beautiful Churches and Monasteries, both pointing out details of the environment around us (such as flowers, plants, animals...), and explaining historical anecdotes and not to better understand life in Cyprus. We could not ask for better, I think you can not visit Cyprus and skip this experience. Thanks for everything.
Very great and interesting tour, super nice guide. It would have been great if she had water with her, as it was on all the other tours we did there.
Great day out with Irina as a guide. Nice comfortable vehicle and full day out. I thought it was a fantastic value. We saw beautifully spiritual old monasteries and churches with amazing paintings inside. We drove through the country and mountainside. Irina was highly knowledgeable and very interesting and I left the trip feeling like if there was just one trip to take in Cyprus this would be the one to take!
