Una performance di Derviscio Volante è una pratica spirituale e rituale ipnotizzante associata all'Ordine Mevlevi del Sufismo, un ramo mistico dell'Islam. È famosa soprattutto per essere legata agli insegnamenti del poeta e mistico persiano del XIII secolo, Jalaluddin Rumi. La performance non è solo una danza ma una forma di meditazione attiva e devozione, che simboleggia il viaggio dell'anima verso l'unità spirituale con il divino. Il vortice (Sema): L'atto centrale coinvolge i dervisci (praticanti) che girano in cerchi ripetitivi, spesso per periodi prolungati. Questa filatura è chiamata Sema, che significa "ascolto" in arabo, in riferimento all'ascolto dell'ispirazione divina.

We have never experienced such a sad, depressing performance! First, nearly 30 minutes of Quran recitations are presented, similar to an Imam with a terribly monotonous voice, along with Quran texts projected on a screen. Then the actual performers come on stage and appear extremely serious and withdrawn, both in their expressions and in their movements. We were almost brought to tears. LOL Several glances around the audience confirmed our impression. Out of sheer politeness, we endured this boring tragedy for 45 minutes for an outrageous €72 and were glad to finally leave. One really does not need to put oneself through such an experience.

We went to the hour long show and the last 20 minutes are the most interesting. The first 30 the band plays and sings and it's not very interesting. While I'm glad I went, only the ending with the whirling dervish was interesting. My suggestion, YouTube the videos and save your hour.

This is in a small hall, so you were very close to the show. The atmosphere was cozy and the dancing mesmerising. An excellent show and well worth seeing.

Sema Performance is really interesting introduction into the Sufi practices. I did not feel too touristic and I had the feeling that the people were true believers rather than performers. I didn’t know about whirling dervish. So this is a good place to start and very mesmerising for me.
