Roccaporena è una frazione del comune di Cascia (da cui dista circa 6 chilometri), situata a oltre 700 metri di altezza e inserita in uno splendido contesto naturale. Da anni è meta di pellegrinaggi, poiché qui nacque nel 1381 Santa Rita, la cui vita e le cui opere vengono qui celebrate in tanti luoghi e in tanti modi diversi. Qui potrai conoscere la casa dove è nata, la chiesa dove si è sposata, lo scoglio di Santa Rita, il luogo dove pregava.
Visitando la Basilica e il Monastero di Santa Rita di Cascia, Santa Rita era uno dei santi più popolari della Chiesa cattolica, con i suoi simboli correlati come rose e fichi. La Basilica fu costruita nel 1937 e consacrata nel 1947, e il monastero dove visse per quarant'anni fu ricostruito nel XVIII secolo e ospita le suore della comunità agostiniana.
Importante centro fortificato degli Umbri, fu colonia romana e poi municipio (90 aC). Dopo la caduta dell'Impero Romano fu presidiata prima da Teodorico, re dei Visigoti, e poi dal bizantino Belisario. Conquistata da Totila, fu ricostruita dal bizantino Narsete. Nel periodo altomedievale fu capitale del Ducato Longobardo. Nel 1155 fu conquistata e distrutta da Federico Barbarossa e, dopo una serie di lotte tra guelfi e ghibellini, fu riconquistata dal cardinale Albornoz che la assicurò alla Chiesa e ne fece un importante centro dello Stato Pontificio. Il monumento principale della città è la Cattedrale. Costruita in stile romanico nel XII secolo, la facciata è ornata da un grande mosaico in stile bizantino (1207). All'interno si trovano un affresco con la Madonna e Santi del Pinturicchio, il busto bronzeo di Urbano VIII del Bernini e uno straordinario ciclo di affreschi di Filippo Lippi.
Rocca Alborziana una fortezza medievale, situata sulla sommità del colle Sant'Elia che domina la città di Spoleto. È il principale bastione del sistema di fortificazioni voluto da papa Innocenzo VI, per rafforzare militarmente l'autorità della Chiesa nei territori dell'Italia centrale e renderla più evidente, in vista dell'ormai imminente ritorno della sede pontificia a Roma dopo gli anni settanta di soggiorno ad Avignone.
Il Duomo è il monumento più importante della città. Costruita in stile romanico nel XII secolo, la facciata è ornata da un grande mosaico di stile bizantino (1207): all'interno si trovano un affresco con la Madonna e Santi del Pinturicchio, il busto bronzeo di Urbano VIII del Bernini e uno straordinario ciclo di affreschi di Filippo Lippi. Del XII secolo risalgono la chiesa di Sant'Eufemia, interessante edificio romanico la cui zona absidale si affaccia sulla scalinata che conduce a piazza Duomo, la chiesa dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo e l'abbazia di San Ponziano, mentre risale la chiesa di San Ponziano. al 13° secolo. Domenico, la chiesa di San Nicolò e il Palazzo Comunale. Di grande interesse sono la chiesa di San Paolo inter vineas (X secolo), con un importante ciclo di affreschi del 1200, e la chiesa di San Pietro, le cui origini risalgono al V secolo, con una splendida facciata romanica scolpita con straordinaria bassorilievi.
Il Teatro Romano fu costruito nella seconda metà del I secolo a.C. immediatamente all'interno delle mura cittadine, e rimase in uso fino al IV secolo. In epoca romana si aprì una profonda crepa nella scalinata, forse a causa di un terremoto. Durante l'Alto Medioevo sul posto furono edificati la chiesa di S. Agata e il palazzo della famiglia Corvi. Nel 1320 quattrocento guelfi furono rinchiusi, e dopo due anni uccisi, nei corridoi del teatro, adibito a prigione. Nel 1395 le monache benedettine si stabilirono a Palazzo Corvi e il teatro, ora sotterraneo, divenne il chiostro del monastero.
Spoleto, città medievale è rimasta ben conservata fino ad oggi. Ammira le rovine intatte delle porte romane intorno alla città. Porta San Pietro o Porta Monterone, al termine della via omonima, ancora ben conservata, ha un doppio arco ed è ornata da quattro altorilievi, gli stemmi della città.

This was a tour of a lifetime! I have always had a devotion to St Rita, and to be able to witness where she lived, was married, prayed, and died was incredibly emotional. Elizabeth was the BEST tour guide you could ask for, and Artu was a superb driver. I was solo so Elizabeth tailored the tour to my needs. She was incredibly knowledgeable and taught me so much about the area and St Rita’s life. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. I would not hesitate to take this tour. It’s long and windy road and needs more energetic people to lead it . The lady was nice but she couldn’t walk because of knee issues
