Alan picked us up right on time and off we went on a wonderful day-long adventure around Vancouver Island. We had experienced much in Victoria (by no means all!) but wanted to get out of the city and into the countryside and this tour did not disappoint. We had never experienced an old growth forest so being in Cathedral Grove was a breathtaking experience. The trees are magnificent and the magical feeling in the forest really is something. The two waterfalls we visited were different from any others we have seen before and they weren’t that difficult to get to. The Coombs marketplace was great and we would have shopped more if we weren’t leaving the island the next day. Alan is very knowledgeable about the island and was attuned to whatever we needed. It’s a great tour!
It was a long day but absolutely worth it and Richard was a great guide! This tour highlights a few of the great gems of the island.
Alan was a great guide - personable, knowledgeable and passionate about the beautiful scenery of Vancouver Island. We very much enjoyed his private tour and his company. He picked us up at our Airbnb in his comfortable vehicle. The natural beauty of the area is incredible and I’d highly recommend Alan if you’re looking to explore it.
Thank you so much, Shaun! I’m really glad you enjoyed the Waterfalls, Coombs & Cathedral Grove Rainforest Tour and experiencing the natural beauty of Vancouver Island. It was a pleasure spending the day with you and showing you some of these incredible spots. I’m happy to hear you found the tour comfortable and enjoyable from start to finish, including the pick-up from your Airbnb. That personal touch and flexibility are what make a private tour of Vancouver Island so special. I truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future! All the best, Alan Surfside Adventure Tours

A fantastic day on Vancouver Island! Alan was our driver and guide, and he was wonderful. Very knowledgeable and friendly. He took into account our preferences and need to avoid very strenuous hikes. We visited three gorgeous provincial parks with beautiful waterfalls and temperate rain forests, as well as other areas, including Coombs with the famous "goats on the roof" market. I highly recommend this tour if you have a full day to devote to exploring the beautiful area beyond Victoria.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m really glad you enjoyed the full-day adventure and that we could tailor the experience to match your group’s preferences. Exploring the waterfalls, rainforests, and quirky charm of Coombs made for a fantastic day, and I’m happy you found it both comfortable and memorable. Your recommendation means a lot, and I’d love to welcome you back anytime to discover even more of what Vancouver Island has to offer! Warm regards, Alan Surfside Adventure Tours
Thank you Alan for a lovely trip. We really enjoyed our day out from Victoria. You were very knowledgeable and enhanced our experience a great deal. We loved learning about the Cathedral Grove trees. It was fantastic the way you flexed our day to also include the Kinsol Trestle; we really appreciated it and it was a highlight of Vancouver Island for us. We also greatly enjoyed the falls x 2 and the visit to Coombs. Great fun. Thank you also for the great company and relaxed approach to the day. You had such patience and goodwill explaining things to us.

We truly enjoyed our day visiting the beautiful forests of Vancouver Island. Alan is a wonderful guide, and made sure we were always comfortable. His easy manner and deep knowledge made for a wonderful day. The hikes through the woods were relatively easy, even for 68 year-olds like ourselves. The waterfalls and magnificent trees were breathtaking. I highly recommend this trip for those wanting to get out of Victoria to see more of what Vancouver Island has to offer.

Our family of four from Australia was staying in Victoria for a few days and we were keen to see as much as we could of the local area. As we didn't have a car during our trip we booked two private tours as well as airport transfers with Surfside Adventure Tours. As a way to see as much as possible in a limited time it was great. Without this tour we would have found it very difficult to get far out of Victoria itself. Alan was punctual, lovely to chat with, and very accommodating, tailoring the tours to our interests. He also ensured that our group always had fresh water, raincoats and umbrellas as required. On this particular tour we particularly enjoyed the stop at Coombs. The market was far more fascinating than I'd imagined. I'd love to return when the goats are on the roof next time!
Hi Belinda, Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review! It was an absolute pleasure showing you and your family around Victoria and beyond. I’m so glad we could help you make the most of your time and explore areas you might not have reached without a car. Coombs really is such a unique and fascinating spot—I’m thrilled to hear you enjoyed it! And yes, the goats on the roof are definitely a must-see next time! Your kind words about the service and the little details, like keeping you prepared for all weather, mean so much to me. I hope your travels back to Australia went smoothly, and I’d love to welcome you all back for more adventures in the future! Warm regards, Alan Surfside Adventure Tours
It was a great day and a memorable experience all round Alan was great, we had a really fun time seeing some of the sights and learning a bit about the history of vancouver island. Alan was really knowledgeable, friendly and easy to talk to. the vehicle was really comfortable. The waterfalls were incredible and the rainforest walks were stunning. We got really lucky when Alan stopped to show us where the salmon travel up the river seeing some bald eagles sitting very close to the edge of the creek. It was a great day and a memorable experience all round

We took a full day tour to see the wild side of Vancouver island. We were met at our hotel and were driven in a large comfortable Toyota Highlander. The guide named Alan was very knowledgeable about the island and regaled us with interesting stories about the natural wonders of Vancouver island. Alan was thoughtful and responsive to our needs (toilets, mobility challenges, vegetarian food). He showed an interest in us and it was delightful to get to know him as well. He was a safe and careful driver (even through pouring rain). He provided water for our trip. We stopped at several provincial parks and did short hikes to see: * Waterfalls (multiple) * Massive old growth trees * Amazing views across Salish sea towards Washington state and across the strait of Georgia towards Vancouver We also stopped at a charming town full of murals about BC history. We followed a walking trail through the downtown and saw at least 20 murals in about 30 minutes. Lunch was in a large very busy market/ restaurant. It is famous for goats on the roof. We saw them. Overall this was a great experience. It was a particularly interesting complement to the other main attractions of Victoria which are formal gardens and British architecture.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Eldad! I’m thrilled to hear that you and your wife enjoyed the full-day adventure exploring the wild side of Vancouver Island. I’m especially glad you appreciated the birdwatching—there’s so much avian life to discover here! It was a pleasure to connect with you both and learn about your interests. Sharing the beauty and stories of this incredible place with you was truly rewarding. I’m also glad I could accommodate your needs and enhance your experience. The waterfalls, old-growth trees, and charming murals in Chemainus really highlight the unique character of the island, and I’m delighted you got to experience them all. Thank you again for your kind words, and I hope to welcome you back for more adventures in the future! Best wishes, Alan Surfside Adventure Tours
