About 40 min bus ride, 15 min boat ride and a easy 1 mile walk to a lovely water fall where you can swim. Then had lunch on the beach it was a fun adventurous day.
Our waterfall hike was amazing!! We had a great time with our guide Carlos , he was really great. We would definitely recommend this !!
Excellent attention from guide Isaac, very friendly and friendly. We were a little hesitant to enter the waterfall because the current was a little strong but thanks to Isaac who entered the water with us the experience was amazing. I definitely recommend the tour and would repeat them again.
We had a fantastic day with our guide Carlos. This has an age restriction, but it doesn’t really apply. You should be in shape for the walk from the beach up to the falls but I don’t think age has anything to do with it. There is really only one steep incline but it is smooth terrain. There is the option to ride up by horseback or on an ATV. The falls are beautiful and the water was refreshing. Drinks and snacks can be had at the falls. Upon return to the beach we had a wonderful meal and drinks and cooled down again in the ocean. You do have to walk through streams on the trek, so either wear waterproof shoes good for hiking or be prepared to remove your shoes. I am over the recommended age… but did well and even did the return hike back down in bare feet. We were 8 in our group and had 1 other person join us.
I was scheduled to have this tour on August 04th, but the tour guide never showed up to the meeting point. I also had no cancellation notice in my email or text from the tour operator . I texted the tour operator through Viator app, but nobody was replying . First, about the meeting point ( the address was vague , lucky me that the Uber driver realized by looking at the map I showed him on Viator app where the place was . I also knew it, as I left from another tour from the same location the week before ) , then 25-30 min after the tour was supposed to start ( but no tour guide in sight ). The other guides leading other tours told me that one of the guys that I did a tour with a few days prior will be doing it, but when he showed up ( 30 min later than when my tour was scheduled to leave), he told me that my tour was with a different company and it was at a different time . He was very kind and called my tour company for me, but he was told that “ my tour does not show in their system “. While he was on the phone with Carlos , from my tour company, I contacted Viator to inform them about the situation. Viator responded immediately and asked if I was at the meeting point on time . Not only that I was, I actually had ( and sent them ) a timestamped photo that showed my arrival time to the meeting point . Then they asked if I indeed had a reservation . I sent them a screenshot of my confirmation . At the same time I got a message from Carlos , telling me that the tour will not take place, as it rained a lot last night and we cannot hike to the waterfall . Viator was also messaging me on Whatapp at the same time . They proposed I go on a free tour to a different waterfall at 10,30 am and also to refund me for my original tour . I decided to go, as I was already there , spent money on Uber etc . That evening I also received a couple messages from the tour operator rep, Carlos , who apologized for the misunderstanding . The next morning I had the original tour refunded to my credit card . In the end it was a nice day , but it would have been nice for the tour operator to have sent some kind of a cancellation notice before the tour was about to start , as this is what professionals are supposed to do . Not to mention that I speak Spanish and I understood everything he was telling Juan , the guide that called him to inquire about my tour. My advice ? Change the tour name to “ waterfall hike and Quimixto Pueblo tour “, so it avoids misunderstandings and also amend the meeting address to read Constitucion 363 , in front of OXXO , instead of the name of a street .lime the Uber driver said “ Badillo Padillo is a very long street “.
Hi Doina, Thank you again for your feedback. I’d like to clarify the meeting-point concern you raised. In your review you mentioned the address was vague, but you also noted that your Uber driver found the exact spot using the map we provide in the Viator app, and that you recognized the same meeting point from a tour the week before. That tells us our map pin/landmark were accurate, however, our written directions clearly needed to match that map more precisely. That part is on us, and we’ve already updated the listing. Regarding the tour itself: We did experience a mix-up assigning guides that morning causing delays on the tour, but our guide Juan was on site that morning. The reason for the switch of the tour was an overnight rain that caused damage on the original hiking trail, and for safety reasons the community that maintains the trail asked operators not to use it that morning. Because these REMOTE routes are maintained by locals and neighbors—not the city—closures can happen quickly during the rainy season, and it can take time to verify conditions early in the day. We are working to have a faster response from the remote town for an overall better experience. As soon as we confirmed the closure, we offered two options: join the alternate waterfall at 10:30 am or receive a full refund. You chose the alternate tour, and we also refunded the original experience in full. We’re grateful you still chose to go with us that day, and we appreciate the opportunity to improve. If you’re open to updating your review to reflect the weather-related route change (rather than a no-show), it would help future travelers understand what happened. We suggest the following title: “Trail closed after storms; operator hosted a different tour for free and refunded original” —Carlos, Discovering Puerto Vallarta
Our guide, Isaac, was very knowledgeable and friendly. The trip was perfectly timed, with great snack and lunch spots. The waterfall was also amazing, and we had a lovely time swimming, walking in the town, and visiting the beach.
Thanks for the amazing review! Isaac will be so happy you enjoyed the perfectly timed day, the food stops, and the waterfall. We loved showing you around. See you next time!
Great Day! Isaac was an exceptional guide. He was responible, kind, caring and entertaining. At all times we felt safe and knew what was happening next. I HIGHLY recommend this tour. One of our best days in PV!
Huge thanks! Isaac will be honored—clear pacing and safety are our top priorities. Thrilled it was one of your best PV days!
This Puerto Vallarta trip was such a wonderful way to spend the day! From getting a local bus to the first destination to the boat ride to the beautiful fishing village to the walk to the waterfall and back, it was all beautiful and relaxing and educational. Isaac was a wonderful host and provided lots of interesting insights. Having the opportunity to sit on the beach in Quimixto at the end of the day was one of the best parts of our trip as it was beautiful yet quiet compared to everywhere we else we went during our time in and around Puerto Vallarta.
So happy you loved the bus-to-boat-to-waterfall journey and the calm of Quimixto, Isaac will be delighted his insights added to the day. Thanks for spending it with us!
Really enjoyed our guide Isaac. We took a water taxi and we did an easy hike to the waterfall. The water was refreshing and we were able to purchase beverages there that help keep the place that supplies refreshments in business. Floods have destroyed it numerous times over the years. We had lunch on the beach on the hike back and watched Isaac do a little surfing. He knew some of the surfers so we encouraged him to get out there while we took videos. It was a lot of fun!
We’re so pleased you enjoyed your tour with us! Thank you for your kind words, and we look forward to showing you more great destinations next time!
My friends and I had an amazing experience hiking at Químixto. There is a 15 min boat ride from boca, the town is truly authentic to the Mexican culture. The trail was well-maintained, with plenty of scenic views along the way. The highlight, of course, was the waterfall—it was absolutely stunning! The sound of the rushing water combined with the peaceful surroundings made it incredibly serene. I’d recomen to bring cash if you like to grab some snacks from any locals.
Thank you for your feedback! We are so happy to hear you had a fantastic time and we can’t wait to welcome you back on another tour
