Salirai a bordo del tuo veicolo privato e inizierai a guidare verso sud verso Cape Sounion. Il tuo autista che parla inglese ti fornirà informazioni sui distretti che attraverserai. Sulla strada per Capo Sounion, attraverserai alcuni dei sobborghi più belli di Atene proprio vicino al mare, come Faliro, Voula e Vouliagmeni, che tra l'altro è famoso per il suo lago sotterraneo. Quindi entrerai nella strada ventosa dal Golfo Saronico e ti divertirai a guidare vicino al mare, passando diversi villaggi e isolette. Non appena arrivi a Cape Sounion, puoi camminare fino in cima dove si trova il tempio di Poseidone e scattare foto della magnifica vista che ti circonda. Sulla via del ritorno al tuo hotel o al porto, puoi fermarti in una delle tante taverne sul mare per goderti il pranzo o la cena, oppure puoi fermarti in una delle spiagge per fare il bagno.

Il tempio di Poseidone fu costruito nel 444 a.C. per calmare Poseidone, dopo che Atena fu tanto onorata, facendo costruire il Partenone in suo onore. Poiché Atene era una grande potenza navale nei tempi antichi e le loro navi stavano esportando merci in tutto il mondo conosciuto, ma avevano anche molti nemici, era intelligente da parte loro usare Capo Sounion come porto alternativo. Inoltre, molto vicino a Capo Sounion, esistevano le miniere d'argento e il piombo di Lavrion. Dal porto di Sounion era che la maggior parte del piombo veniva esportato. Ecco perché Poseidone, il dio del mare e dei marinai, dovrebbe essere onorato e stare sempre al loro fianco in questi lunghi viaggi attraverso il mare, fornendo loro venti favorevoli e acque calme.

I went to Cabo Sunion and it was worth seeing the sunset there. The visit is quick, but the view is spectacular and the ruins are well preserved.

On Niki's suggestion, we opted to do the Cape Sounion on our last day in Athens before our Cyclades Cruise and what a wonderful decision this was! First of all, Niki suggested a wonderful driver Patrick who was full of anecdotes and interesting facts on our drive there ( about 2 Hours) before sunset , and when we arrived, he stopped us in this tiny tavern on the beach where an entire greek family was celebrating the baptism of their baby , about 40 people, in celebration mode and we shared their celebration and it was a lot of fun and great simple food : I remember fondly the fried octopus and my fresh from being caught fish! We must have been the only non greek people there and it felt really special! After dinner and wine drinking with the family, we headed to the ruins of Poseidon Temple and it was simply gorgeous and breathtaking. Niki helped booking the cruise too and the private visit to the Acropolis Museum and site itself and everything thing was top notch! Merci Niki , you were a pleasure to deal with !
