Situata nel centro della città, Piazza Unirii è stata progettata durante l'ultima fase del comunismo in Romania. Spettacolare grazie alle sue splendide fontane, è anche attraversato dal viale più grande di Bucarest: l'ex Viale della Vittoria del Socialismo. Stare qui e fare una passeggiata sul viale rivelerà la visione megalomane che il dittatore rumeno aveva in serbo per Bucarest.
Il Palazzo del Parlamento è il secondo edificio più grande del mondo dopo il Pentagono e l'edificio amministrativo più costoso. Vedremo questo edificio dall'esterno e avremo un vero senso delle sue dimensioni gigantesche. Per questo, erano necessarie grandi quantità di denaro, materiali e sforzi di lavoro. Inoltre, questa struttura è stata realizzata sottoponendo il popolo rumeno a carenze di ogni tipo durante gli anni '80. Ascolterete tutta la storia di come è stato realizzato questo enorme edificio, cosa pensano gli abitanti del posto mentre lo osservano da diverse angolazioni. Di fronte al palazzo si trova l'edificio dell'Accademia Romana, una costruzione su larga scala in stile simile. Era destinato all’uso della moglie del dittatore, Elena Ceausescu. Tuttavia, come molti altri edifici degli anni '80, era solo a metà finito. Oggi, una grande parte di esso è rimasta in rovina come un ricordo doloroso della visione megalomane del dittatore di Bucarest
Scopri come alcune chiese furono distrutte mentre altre furono salvate in modo scioccante durante il periodo comunista. Le chiese nascoste dietro gli edifici utilitaristici sono uno spettacolo curioso che descrive come il Partito Comunista ha trattato la religione. Mihai Voda Churchh è un luogo religioso del Medioevo che fortunatamente è sopravvissuto alla frenesia della demolizione ed è una testimonianza di come appariva Bucarest prima.
La Piazza della Rivoluzione è dove il regime comunista ebbe inizio e dove tutto finì con le proteste popolari durante la Rivoluzione del 1989. I am deeply disappointed with this experience; it is definitely not worth the price. The tour guide (I believe his name was Stefan) had a terrible attitude. The entire time he was rushing us and didn't give us enough time to actually enjoy the places we visited. The icing on the cake was when he called me just to yell at me because I decided to stay behind instead of returning with the group. Since I couldn’t enjoy the castles properly, I explained to him that it was my birthday and I wanted to stay longer to explore. He rudely snapped back, asking if I thought he was going to wait for me until tomorrow. Terrible service altogether. He didn’t explain anything well; we paid for a Spanish tour, but he spoke in English most of the time, and when he did speak Spanish, it was barely understandable. On top of that, he was rude and completely lacked empathy.
I really enjoyed the Bucharest Under Communism: Life, Terror & Hope tour last weekend and it was a really great experience. The tour was very interesting and well explained, with lots of insights into what life was actually like during the communist period. Also as a bonus we got overall tips for the city (where to eat, where to go to etc) The guide made the history easy to understand and engaging, sharing stories that you wouldn’t get just by reading or visiting on your own. It really helps you see Bucharest or Romania from a local.

Stefania was an incredible guide from start to finish! She communicated before the tour, met the two of us (no one else booked on) in pouring rain (our choice, we were unable to do any other day, though this was offered to us) and Stefania was so knowledgeable, professional and kind. The 3+ hours tour flew by and we had a sense of the city of Bucharest and its people that no other experience in our visit had provided for us. Thankyou Stefania!!

Extremely well put together, very thorough, as complete as possible within the scheduled period of time (3.5 hours), extraordinary, informative, and detailed. All these presented by a very knowledgeable, kind, fun, very professional, passionate, and patient guide!!! We never expected to enjoy the tour so much !!! We had already done the morning tour of the old city and in the afternoon we also did the “communism” tour. Laura was professional, nice and explained so many things that we did not know.
