We had a wonderful couple of days on this trip. The trek on the first day was fab- 500-600m of ascent through jungle with orchids and other exotic plants. Chef prepared lunch on the mountain was a lovely surprise. Our guide, Aldo, was charming, amenable and knowledgeable. Arriving at the sun gate for the first view of Machu Picchu was amazing . And great to have the opportunity to return on the second day to visit close up and learn more about the site.

We had dreamed of visiting Machu Picchu for years and always wanted to walk the Inca Trail. After looking at different tour companies, we chose Qoricancha Expeditions because Ronaldo and his team made planning simple and reliable. The night before our trek, we had a briefing at 6:00 pm where we got all the key information. Everything was explained clearly so we felt ready. On the first day, we were picked up from our hotel in Cusco at 4:00 am and taken to the train station. We caught the early train and arrived at KM 104 (Chachabamba checkpoint), passed the control point and started our hike. Our first stop was Chachabamba, a beautiful Inca site surrounded by green plants. From the start our guide Juan was fantastic. He shared his knowledge and enthusiasm, which made the trip even better. As we hiked on, we reached Wiñay Wayna another impressive Inca site. We had a tasty lunch there prepared by the chef, before heading to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). Getting to the Sun Gate was a moment we’ll never forget. The views of Machu Picchu from above were stunning. After taking lots of photos, we walked down to the citadel and then took the bus to Aguas Calientes. We stayed overnight at La Jaya Machu Picchu Hotel which was comfortable and in a great location. On our second day, we went back to Machu Picchu early for a guided tour along Circuit 3. Juan gave us a thoughtful and detailed explanation of the site. His stories helped us understand the history and importance of Machu Picchu. The tour finished around 10:00 am, so we had some free time to explore before heading back to Aguas Calientes for lunch. In the afternoon we took the 2:30 pm train to the Sacred Valley where our driver David met us. He drove us back to our hotel in Cusco. Everything went smoothly from start to finish. We highly recommend Qoricancha Expeditions to anyone wanting a great and personal Short Inca Trail experience. Our 2-day Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with Qoricancha Expeditions was excellent from beginning to end. Right from the start, Ronaldo our travel advisor was professional, quick to respond and very helpful. He explained everything clearly, took care of the permits and made sure all the details were in place. This gave us peace of mind before we arrived in Cusco. During the trek, our guide Victor was fantastic. He knew a lot about Inca history, archaeology and Andean culture and explained things in a way that was interesting and easy to follow. Victor kept a comfortable pace, checked on us often and made sure we enjoyed the trail. Even when it rained a little, his positive attitude and good planning made everything safe and fun. The weather actually made the cloud forest and ruins feel even more magical and overall the conditions were great. The hike was beautiful, especially at Wiñay Wayna and when we reached the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) for our first amazing view of Machu Picchu. It was a moment we’ll never forget. After the hike, we stayed at Tierra Viva Hotel in Aguas Calientes. The rooms were very comfortable, the showers were hot and breakfast was great. It was the perfect place to relax after a day of hiking. On the second day, our visit to Machu Picchu was well guided, at a good pace and very informative. Everything went just as planned. Our driver David, was also great. He was always on time, friendly and drove carefully which really matters in the Sacred Valley. All our transfers went smoothly and were well organized. The visit was both enriching and memorable. In the afternoon, we took the Vistadome Observatory train. The upgrade was worth it for the panoramic views and onboard entertainment. When we arrived in the Sacred Valley, David was there to drive us back to our hotel in Cusco. Overall, this private tour was excellent for our group of four. We also hiked Huayna Picchu, which was an excellent addition. In the afternoon, we boarded the Vistadome Observatory train, which provided a scenic and relaxing return journey.
