Will was one of the best tour guides I have ever had! He was amazingly knowledgeable about the subject. The tour was 2 1/2 hours long, but seem to fly by!
This was an amazing 2.5 hour walking tour which went by so fast. I learned so much from Will Stilwell who was my incredible guide. He thoroughly knew the history of this era from the writings and letters of the time and he brought these historic events to dramatic life as if they were happening today. I couldn't help but take notes and photos because there was so much to digest and learn from him about the vast number of heroes who moved Massachusetts progressively forward. Just be advised if you have mobility issues that the walking tour requires sturdy shoes and walking on some irregular pavement. Also take a water bottle for warm days. Take this tour if you have any interest in history at all- you won't be disappointed!
The Boston Underground Railroad tour was great. Will knows his stuff, has passion for what he does, and adds much life to the tour.
Our guide, William, was AMAZING! He was so knowledgeable about the history of Boston and so passionate with his delivery. He has actually befriended the new owners of one of the historical homes on the tour. We highly recommend this presentation to anyone interested in learning more about the Underground Railroad.
Tour was canceled due to heat. How do I get a refund?
Good morning, this is Ted Clark, owner of the local small business where you've posted this negative review. I'm sorry to hear your recent visit to Boston was disrupted by the record-breaking heatwave! To keep our guides and guests safe, afternoon tours were canceled during the hottest three-day stretch. Guests on canceled tours were offered alternate tour times, and if unable to reschedule, received a full refund. If you've not already been refunded for the canceled tour, please contact us directly via email to help@hubtowntours.com. Our records do not indicate any missing refunds for affected guests, however; I presume this review was written before Viator/Tripadvisor processed your refund.
Lin gave an excellent tour by providing the right amount of historical background information and combining storytelling with the history of the Underground Railroad on Beacon Hill. She changed our perception of the abolition movement in Boston and introduced us to new heroes like Elizabeth Freeman. The pace of the tour was perfect for our group.
Thank you for this thoughtful review! We designed our Underground Railroad tour specifically to highlight these powerful, often-overlooked narratives of abolitionist history. Lin excels at weaving rigorous historical accuracy with compelling storytelling, and we are so proud she could introduce you to these incredible American heroes. This is a perfect year to discover new and inspiring stories from our past, and we're glad that you were able to join us!
Meaghan was very knowledgeable and friendly. I like that she used her voice to direct the sound so that everyone could hear her especially when traffic was loud. It seemed as if she had some theatre training. The only thing that was off was that there was a BAA road race that blocked the entrance to Boston Common parking garage and we had to park further away and try to find an open entrance to the common by going around the blocked off area for the race. If we had known in advance we would have entered the city from the north end/haymarket exit and parked by government center on the other side of the common.
Thank you so much for five stars and these kind compliments for Meaghan! She supplies great history and good company on the Freedom Trail, and her years of guide experience have made her an expert storyteller. Boston Common has been a hub of activity here since the 1630s, and parking is generally a challenge, so this may be helpful information.
Dave was an exceptional tour guide. He was knowledgeable, appropriate and kind. The tour was fascinating and we learned so much.
Tami, thank you so much! Dave has a comprehensive knowledge of Boston history, including the Beacon Hill's place in the Underground Railroad, and many years experience sharing that history with guests. We are so pleased you enjoyed the tour and learned a lot!
Joe was very knowledgeable and kind. He welcomed questions and answered them happily. He was considerate to keep us in the shade as much as possible.
Thank you very much for five stars for Joe! We're glad you got your questions answered and enjoyed some of Beacon Hill's shady spots. Joe is a marvelous educator and guide, and passionate about Boston's abolitionist and Underground Railroad history.
My husband and I took the historic Underground Railroad tour with Lynn. She was an outstanding guide. She was very knowledgeable about the subject and shared many interesting facts We have lived not far from Boston for our whole lives and learned so much about this aspect of history. Highly recommend the tour and Lynn for a guide.
Thank you so much for five stars and this wonderful review! It means a lot to our Underground Railroad guides to share this important, compelling history, but also to share beautiful, historic Beacon Hill. Lin will be thrilled that it deepened your sense of the history of home for you! Appreciate your recommendation.
