Uccelli intorno a Kigali è un'introduzione alla vita degli uccelli dell'Africa orientale in quanto questi luoghi sono un mix di habitat tra cui praterie, zone umide e laghi (stagni). Uccelli in uno (o tutti) i siti menzionati, è un'introduzione agli uccelli del Ruanda e si ha anche l'occasione di vedere uccelli rari come Oliveback dal collare bianco, Papyrus Gonolek e Papyrus Canary.

Abbiamo un birdwatching di 3 ore nel Nyandungu Urban Wetland Eco-tourism Park principalmente per vedere gli uccelli. Nyandungu è una zona umida appena restaurata all'interno della città di Kigali; si trova a 1,5 km dall'aeroporto internazionale di Kigali ea soli 25 minuti di auto dal centro della città. Oltre 100 uccelli sono stati registrati in questa zona tra gli altri Oliveback dal collare bianco, Apalide dal petto giallo, Barbet a doppio dente, ecc.
Umusambi è un nome kinyarwanda che significa Gru coronata di Gra. Il villaggio è un santuario appena creato per salvare la popolazione di Gra-coronato Crane dal commercio illegale di animali domestici. Beneficiando della protezione del sito, più uccelli stanno arrivando nel luogo per il cibo e la riproduzione. Molte specie di Kingfisher cioè Pied, Malachite e Pigmei africani usano creare stagni d'acqua come fonte di cibo. Passiamo 2-3 ore del mattino a fare un giro del santuario prima di fare la pausa pranzo.
Le zone umide di Bugesera, in particolare la zona umida di Gashora, ospitano specie di papiro e uccelli acquatici. Questi luoghi ospitano il papiro Gonolek, il papiro Canario, la cisiticola di Carruther e stormi di Ibis lucidi. Si può avere una mattina o un pomeriggio in questo luogo per vedere gli uccelli più paludosi della regione dell'Africa orientale.

My girlfriend and I had really interesting and well organized two days of birding around Kigali with our guide Claudien. Although we were absolute beginners, he gave us a great insight in the colourful world of birds there and is an expert in this field- don‘t miss it when you visit Rwanda!

We had the chance to go on a birding tour in Kigali, and to say it was wonderful is an understatement. Our guide, Joseph, was amazing, so knowledgeable but most of all, incredibly passionate. His love for birds and conservation is truly contagious. We enjoyed spending the day with him and our driver, Alex, so so much. We only wished we had more time to absorb more knowledge. If you like birds, book this tour, you will not regret it. If you don’t like birds, you should also book this tour, I’m sure you’ll like them by the end. I can’t stress enough how amazing Joseph was. We are so happy we found this tour, and honestly can’t wait to come back and go birding with him again. We were able to identify over 60 different species of birds. Thank you so so much, we truly loved it.

The Guide is very knowledgable, he knows all the Bird names by heart, knows where to look for them and points out facts and behaviour. Wonderful landscape, too. Take a raincoat during rain season 🙃 Pick up, drop off and Lunch Break worked well, too.

Claudien proved to be a punctuel and seriously expert birder, equipped with quality binocs and scope and call recordings and deep familiarity with the species of the area. He is flexible and easy company. The urban wetland is perfect for birding: paved pathway cutting through marshes, ponds, and woodlands, litter'free, uncrowded, and secure.

This was an unplanned trip for me whilst at a conference in Kigali. I had an extra day free before heading back home. Claudien made himself available and organized a great day in the wetlands. I cannot recommend Birding and Educational Tours enough! The experience far exceeded my expectations. Claudien’s expertise in identification of local species, and knowledge of where to find them, was invaluable. We managed to see 69 different species including some rare sightings. Booking was easy, the tour started on time, lunch was lovely, and the birding locations were excellent. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe throughout. It was also wonderful to have the opportunity to support a local business. Claudien went above and beyond to ensure I was able to get the most from the experience.

I had a great time with Claudien, a knowledgeable and academically-trained birdwatcher. I saw about 40 species of birds in a day in large part due to his expertise. I would happily choose other tours with this team.
