Dal 1992 la collezione d'arte della famiglia Thyssen è stata esposta al Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza di Madrid. Tuttavia, Carmen Thyssen è stata un collezionista d'arte a se stante sin dagli anni '80 e la sua collezione personale è esposta separatamente nelle più belle città della Spagna. Nel 1999, ha accettato di mostrare molti oggetti della sua collezione nel Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza per un periodo di dodici anni. Nel frattempo, una casa per la sua collezione è stata richiesta a Málaga. Questo museo, una conversione di un edificio del XVI secolo, è stato aperto al pubblico il 24 marzo 2011. Il Museo Carmen Thyssen di Malaga è dedicato alla conservazione, alla ricerca e alla diffusione della collezione Carmen Thyssen per sottolineare il valore della pittura spagnola, in particolare quella del diciannovesimo e dei primi anni del ventesimo secolo, interamente citata nel suo contesto storico e artistico, per la comprensione di tutto il pubblico, che fa parte della strategia di Malaga come città culturale.

If you only want to see the archaeological site, you also have to pay for the museum; the site has virtual glasses, but they do not give them to you unless you purchase a guided tour, and if you go without glasses, there are barely 4 signs that if you are not an archaeologist, you won't understand. Fraud for profit.
An amazing museum with well preserved Roman ruins in the basement level - well worth the extra ticket price. Four levels of artwork mostly from the Carmen Thyssen collection are well presented, with a more modern exhibition on the top floor. Bags must be left in lockers (€1 which is refundable) and staff do not encourage talking at all, even when it’s about the exhibits. This did spoil our visit a little. There is a small cafe and shop but we didn’t visit either.
Great gallery. No advance booking was necessary. Well presented artworks. Preferred my visit here to the one I made to the Picasso Museum. Nice little cafe and garden patio. The slice of tortilla I had was warmed and very nice. Lovely little shop too. There are Roman remains in the basement but I didn't add the entry to these to my ticket.
We enjoyed a lovely morning at this museum. The Roman ruins in the basement were so interesting and we appreciated the Spanish collection, seeing many scenes of Spanish life and landscapes.
Very interesting place. Did a great job on renovating the building. Don’t miss the architectural tour on the lower level - frankly, was the highlight of our visit.
The painting collection is nice, worth seeing as it reflects an era, and local customs. However, it is not large, so I find the ticket price/experience high. They have a small terrace, quite lovely, make sure you have a relaxing break there. Their courtyard cafe has an excellent Lunch prix fixe menu: multiple choices, all good, fast service, nice setting, good price. Tip: you can access the cafe without an entrance ticket.
Not really one for normally visiting museums, but really enjoyed this. A really beautiful museum that has been presumably funded by Carmen Thyssen - excellent display of Spanish art. Nice coffee shop and book store Definitely with a visit.
This is one of spains good museums but the permanent collection is average and only the visiting exhibit are really worth it. In this case I should have passed. The collection in Madrid is better
We went on Sunday, free admission, last day in our city, having visited many other emblematic sites, and we loved it. It's a kind of art we like, but apart from that, the building is an architectural wonder, and the exhibits are very well put together. It is a relatively short visit, in the city center, and has an amazing gift shop. Once again, grateful to the Thyssen family for their legacy to such important cities worldwide as Madrid or Malaga.
Worth a visit small Spanish art collection spanning different periods. Its a lovely gallery space attached to an older building
