There was no barcode at the site to initiate the audio tour. The website that was provided in the emails was non-responsive. When we finally did succeed in connecting to the website, it was not a digital tour of the site but was instead a narrative history of the sight. We found better and more comprehensive information in the facility’s on site museum.
Very interesting tour through history. Spectacular views of Barcelona. A beautiful walk in the heights of Barcelona.
We did not get the 1 hours digital audio. When I asked about it she said it was for the cable car. And if I wanted it for the castle it would cost 3 more euros. There were beautiful views from the fort. But otherwise it was somewhat boring. I did pay extra to go down the hill on cable car which is worth it for the views!
We visited Montjuïc Castle as a family and loved the calm atmosphere away from the busy city, with plenty of space for the kids to explore safely. The views over Barcelona and the sea were absolutely beautiful, and we really enjoyed taking our time walking around together.
This was very disappointing. There was very little to see and many areas where closed i guess. We walked around for about 30 minutes then left. Would not suggest it to friends.
Montjuïc Castle offers a fascinating glimpse into Barcelona’s history, with well-preserved fortifications and informative displays. The panoramic views of the city and harbor from the castle terraces are absolutely breathtaking, making every step up the hill worthwhile. The experience combines culture, history, and scenery in a truly memorable way.
Visiting Montjuïc Castle was a pleasant experience, especially for the stunning panoramic views over Barcelona and the sea. The entry process was smooth and the self-guided visit allowed us to explore at our own pace.
Visiting Montjuïc Castle was an amazing experience — the historic fortress sits high above Barcelona and offers absolutely stunning panoramic views of the city and the sea. Exploring the castle grounds and exhibitions was both interesting and relaxing, and the ticket made entry simple and hassle-free. A fantastic stop in Barcelona and easily a five-star experience!
It is a military fortress dating back to the 17th-18th centuries and the initial part was built in 1640 and then became one of the most strategic fortifications during the War of the Spanish Succession (1705-1714). The castle also has a sad reputation, because it has been used as a prison and place of torture over the centuries (killing of anarchists, fascists during the Spanish Civil War, republicans and, among the latter the best known, Lluis Company. To tell the truth, the castle is bare inside (there are some rooms used for events and temporary exhibitions) and there is a central courtyard (Pati d’Armas) with a bar and services. Know that the highlight is certainly the view of the Mediterranean sea, while the castle can be reached (for the more sporty) by an uphill walk, or by the Montjuïc Cable Car (Telefèric de Montjuïc: € 15 return and 15% discount for Barcelona Card holders)), which leads directly to the top. Alternatively you can use the funicular (from Paral·lel to the park) and then the zip line, or use the bus 150 from Plaza España. If you have more days to visit Barcelona, pop in, otherwise I suggest you to focus your attention on other decidedly superior attractions. N.B.: With the Barcelona Card, admission to the castle is free (otherwise €12/adult), but you can access it for free on Sundays after 3pm and every first Sunday of the month.
Montjuïc Castle was an unforgettable experience and one of the best panoramic spots in Barcelona. The location alone makes it worth the visit — perched high above the city, the views over the harbor, the Mediterranean Sea, and the skyline are absolutely breathtaking.
