This Luau was planned by my daughter, bride to be, to celebrate her wedding the next day. Wanted family and friends to be together. That did not happen. From arrival things just started going from disappointing to rude and just the worst luau I have been to. First, the Luau was moved inside for a storm that never happened. The Luau ambiance decreased by 50% being indoors, I felt like I was in a school cafeteria . The person at check in was the on who had worked with our daughter and stated she had her whole group together at table 14. Arriving at the table there were 2 people, not apart of our group already seated. Another employee came by which I explained the situation, and his reply to me " so you want me to kick them off your table!" He was not joking and this was embarrassing, I replied that our group was to have the whole table. We realized at that time that we were short 4 seats for our group. Our daughter went back to the check in table to find get additional small table added for the needed 4 seats. She was told by the original lady helping her there was an additional tables, 9 and 10. Moved family members to Table 10, getting settled and the same worker who made the rude comment to me above, had our daughter in tears when he said that those tables were not included and they had to move. They move to the back, and ended up the last table to get food. What was upsetting, was seeing Table 9 empty all night, and the family that was at Table 10 left when they were done eating. Very poor organization and extremely poor customer service the way our group was treated by one of your employees. The only good part was our grandkids got to go on stage for the kids hula lesson, but that was with me telling them to just go up, since the hula gals asking for the kids only went to the front tables. The rest of the Hawaiian dances and entertainment was more on the level of a talent show performance, than professional Hawaiian / Pacific Island dancers. The last performance of the fire show, of course needed to be out side, but only the first people out got front row ( and didn't move) to see the show and we were in back and saw tops of the flames. Disappointed that an announcer didn't kindly ask the tall people to allow shorter people in front. To reference my point on your entertainment, and Luau, I have been to the Smith Family Luau in Kauai, they are the top of the line in all aspects of a Luau. Our son and his family traveling from Minnesota had been looking forward to their first Luau , and were so very disappointed in the whole experience. Our daughter looked at this negative and upsetting experience at your Luau, as an omen that her Wedding the next day at the Royal Kona Resort would be perfect, and it was!
The luau is on the lawn of the Outrigger hotel - it was a very nice evening and we had showers and saw a rainbow. As noted by others, not on the water. There was some activities beforehand like stamping and bowling - the drinks were good and the food was tasty. Wasn’t sure where the restrooms were? Had to go a long way into the hotel but maybe there were others not marked? The cats wandering around there isn’t anything they can do about I’m sure but those poor meow meows. The show was good - our first one so nothing to compare it to. Overall a relaxing evening, it was neat but for the cost/price we probably wouldn’t do it again. Mahalo.
Fantastic food and amazing show! Authentic and highly entertaining! Kids got so excited to see the flames and learn how to dance
The "luau" was moved inside because there was a chance of rain. I understand there must be a delicate balance of making it work, but it was horrible inside. It was a convention center, very brightly lit, a big buffet only, and it felt just like a bad cruise ship show. We decided to leave early and everyone we approached told us they were unable to validate parking and to go to the hotel, so we did and the hotel told us that the parking and the hotel were two separate entities and they were "unable" to validate either, so we paid $24 more dollars for that. I was so sad and disappointed. Suggestion would to be have it outside with the food and the entertainment under a tent, and allow patrons to decide if they want to risk the weather...because the atmosphere absolutely ruined any type of cultural fun or learning.
This was a great experience for our anniversary dinner. We made postcards and orchid bracelets before the show, open bar, great food. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because once the show started, the buffet was never replenished. Its supposed to be all you can eat. Also, photos/videos were not allowed during the show. Umm I paid good money for this, I'd like to snap a few photos for my memory book.
Food was good but not the best I have had.
The luau show was good and the food was very good. It rained on us which really dampened the mood of the crowd, making it tougher for the entertainment to get people excited and involved. Yes, it is clear they advertise "rain or shine" but for as much as people pay to attend this show, I cannot understand why this hotel venue doesn't have a better back-up plan than a dollar store clear plastic poncho. The price per person for general admission was rather expensive, and add another $30 per ticket for the option to cancel if you cannot attend before the deadline.
The spread was great. The food was delicious, and the entertainment was top tier. We did a few luaus around the island and this one was the best one.
This is not the cultural experience I was hoping for. This was an express version. I highly recommend finding a traditional vs. resort style. Very disappointed.
Great drinks, good food, fire show was amazing. Instructions said parking was $10 per car but actually cost $40
