Inizia il tour nella piazza principale, dove ogni anno a giugno si svolge la famosa partita di calcio giocata in costumi medievali, il Calcio Storico Florentino. La tua guida descriverà in dettaglio tutta l'immensa ricchezza artistica di Santa Croce; gli affreschi (1380) di Gaddi nella Cappella Maggiore raccontano la storia di "Santa Croce", mentre i bellissimi affreschi di Giotto nelle Cappelle Bardi e Peruzzi mostrano scene della vita di San Francesco e San Giovanni Evangelista. Sulla strada a sinistra dell'ingresso, vedi il memoriale del drammaturgo del XIX secolo Giovanni Battista Niccolini costruito come ispirazione per la Statua della Libertà. Mentre cammini attraverso le mura sacre, scopri l'arte di Donatello e del suo crocifisso, uno dei gioielli del Rinascimento, così come l'arte del Brunelleschi e la perfetta armonia architettonica della sua Cappella dei Matti.
Ammira il cimitero monumentale e i dipinti danneggiati, distrutti dalla tragica alluvione del 1966 e successivamente restaurati. Dopo aver visitato l'interno, scopri l'esterno che è coperto da una facciata in marmo policromo. Infine, la guida ti farà visitare il campanile, la cripta e le 16 cappelle. Il tour dura circa un'ora e avrai l'opportunità di tornare a tutto ciò che potresti voler vedere di nuovo al termine del tour.

Walking Among the Masters at Santa Croce was a memorable experience of our time in Florence. From the moment we stepped into the basilica, it felt like walking through Italian history. Seeing the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli, and Rossini in one place was incredible, and our guide added to the context. We learned about the impact of the 1966 Florence flood and the restoration efforts. We also enjoyed seeing Donatello’s crucifix. So much to see and our photos don’t give it justice.

Claudia, my guide, replaced her colleague (sick) at the foot. Very friendly, she explained to me with passion all the history this sublime Basilica. So sharp about dates and anecdotes in perfect French, I had the impression that she had lived during the time of buried protagonists. By far the most beautiful visit I've made.

Absolutely wonderful tour guide. She had a passion for history and provided us with some of the lesser known but more interesting details. The Basilica di Santa Croce is a wonderful church which should be included in your Florence trip. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and explained the significance of the artwork around the church and grounds. The church and beautiful artwork are spectacular....the history of the church is amazing.....and it is the church where Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli are all buried. Highly recommend taking this tour.

I was fortunate enough to be the only one taking the tour so it was very personal. The guide told me about the history of the basilica, its architecture, and spoke about the tombs and epitaphs of Galileo, Michelangelo, Dante, Machiavelli, Rossini and others as well as the artistry of Donatello and Cimabue.
