Had a really great time making traditional Samarkand bread! The host was very friendly and welcoming, and it was really interesting to learn about the culture and traditions around Samarkand bread while making it myself. Definitely one of my favorite experiences in Samarkand!

Fun experience!

This was a fun and engaging experience with my mom, watching them bake and taking part in a few steps of the process. Abdulaziz was very friendly and good with English, explaining the history and importance of Samarkand bread in Uzbek culture. Thank you for making our short visit from India even more special.

Discovering Samarkand’s Love for Bread

The tour was amazing! We learned a lot about how important and beloved bread is in Uzbek culture. We were able to watch the entire bread-making process up close—how the bakers prepare the dough, shape it, stick it onto the wall of the oven, control the heat, add water, and finally take the bread out using special tools. We were standing right next to the bakers, which made the experience feel very authentic and special. I really appreciated the warm hospitality of both our guide and everyone at the bakery. The guide also picked us up directly from our guest house, which was very convenient. It was a truly memorable experience, and I would highly recommend this tour!

A wonderful hands-on bread-making experience with Aziz

We had a really lovely time with the traditional Uzbek bread-making activity organized by Mr. Abdulaziz. It was much more than just learning how to make bread. Aziz also explained the history, traditions and beliefs surrounding bread in Uzbek culture, including why bread is considered so important and respected. That made the experience much more meaningful and helped us understand the culture beyond what we see as tourists. We got to try making the bread ourselves and, of course, the best part was eating it fresh and hot! 😄 Aziz was friendly, patient and genuinely passionate about sharing his culture. It felt very personal and relaxed rather than like a typical tourist activity. Definitely one of the memorable experiences from our Samarkand trip. Highly recommended if you want to experience Uzbek culture in a simple and authentic way.

Highly recommend this experience

I loved this and would 100% do it again. Abdulaziz is a chill guy with solid communication skills who has made something awesome. He found this little local bread making bakery and partnered with them to give tourists an experience of a lifetime. He picked me up from my lobby and we headed over to the bakery which was so real and unique to anything I’ve seen in the UK. The people there are working from early morning to late at night making thousands of bread (Non) a day. I was under the impression that I would simply witness and help a little but nope I was offered a chance to lean in and place the dough into the Tandir which is this huge clay oven. Abdulaziz helped coach me beforehand and made a video for me doing it. I was also given a chance to do the other steps of bread making. Shaping the dough as well as pressing a design and stamping seeds into it. Again- Abdulaziz was kind enough to offer to film and picture me. My bread was baked and I was given not just mine but an extra bread to take back home with me. Abdulaziz called us another car and as it was my first day in Samarkand he recommended me to visit Registan Square for a light show. He dropped me off there and I’m so glad I followed his advice. Awesome guide and an awesome activity. Would recommend 100%.
