La Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli si trova a 4 km da Assisi. All’interno della Basilica si trova la Cappella della Porziuncola; il luogo più amato da San Francesco e dove Dio gli concesse grazie particolari. Inizialmente la Porziuncola era un’antica cappella, circondata da una piccola porzione di bosco (da cui forse il nome) appartenente ai Benedettini del Monastero di S. Benedetto del Monte Subasio. Rimasto a lungo abbandonato, fu restaurato da Francesco che lo affittò all'abate Teobaldo. Dopo la morte del Santo, intorno alla chiesa sorsero alcuni edifici permanenti: il coro dei frati, vari piccoli oratori e poi un piccolo convento. Nella seconda metà del Cinquecento Pio V ordinò la costruzione di una grande basilica che racchiudesse e proteggesse la Porziuncola e accogliesse le folle di pellegrini che vi affluivano continuamente.
La Basilica di Santa Chiara è un edificio religioso, costruito in stile neoromanico, situato ad Assisi. La basilica è tra le più famose d'Italia e una delle più belle dell'Umbria. La chiesa segna non solo il centro storico della città ma anche un luogo significativo dal punto di vista artistico e culturale. La Basilica di Santa Chiara fu costruita dai monaci benedettini, che ebbero il desiderio di onorare Santa Chiara, nata Agnese nel 1194 e morta il 13 settembre 1253. Attualmente, insieme alla Porziuncola, all’Eremo delle Carceri, alla Chiesa Nuova e alla Basilica di San Damiano, alla Cattedrale di San Rufino e ovviamente alla Basilica di San Francesco, è uno dei centri in cui si concentra il pellegrinaggio ad Assisi.
Splendida residenza barocca con volte affrescate agli inizi del Seicento da pittori umbri e toscani. È la Pinacoteca Comunale di Assisi, al suo interno si trovano un cospicuo gruppo di affreschi medievali e rinascimentali.
La Basilica di San Francesco d'Assisi, il luogo che conserva le spoglie mortali del santo serafico dal 1230, è uno dei luoghi di culto più importanti d'Italia e del mondo. Nel 2000 la basilica è stata inserita nella lista del patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO. La prima pietra della Basilica di San Francesco d'Assisi fu posta il 16 luglio 1228, appena due giorni dopo la morte di Francesco e il giorno dopo la sua proclamazione a santo da parte di papa Gregorio IX. Secondo la tradizione, fu Francesco stesso a indicare esattamente il luogo in cui desiderava essere sepolto. La chiesa rappresenta uno dei capisaldi della diffusione del gotico in Italia. Oltre ad essere il luogo di sepoltura di san Francesco, assunse un'importanza fondamentale per il papato, che vedeva nell'ordine francescano un grande alleato per rafforzare i legami con le classi più umili e popolari. La costruzione della basilica fu iniziata nel 1228 da papa Gregorio IX e poi consacrata nel 1253 da papa Innocenzo IV.

Il Duomo di Orvieto è una delle più belle cattedrali Italiane, capolavoro dell'architettura gotica del centro Italia. Il magnifico edificio domina la scogliera su cui si trova Orvieto grazie alle sue dimensioni. In particolare, lo splendore della sua facciata è conosciuto in tutto il mondo, con le sue torri che raggiungono un'altezza di circa 53 metri. Da non dimenticare l’interno della Cupola, con meravigliose decorazioni e affreschi realizzati da alcuni dei più grandi pittori del passato, tra cui il celebre Giudizio Universale di Luca Signorelli.
Esplora Orvieto, una delle città più antiche d'Italia, deve le sue origini alla civiltà etrusca: i primi insediamenti risalgono al IX secolo a.C. e si localizzarono all'interno delle grotte tufacee ricavate nel massiccio su cui attualmente sorge la cittadina umbra. Sebbene la fama di Orvieto sia profondamente intrecciata con quella del suo magnifico Duomo, la città offre numerosi spunti e itinerari storico-artistici, proprio in virtù delle sue antichissime origini. Excellent! Tour assistant and driver were both very pleasant. On time departure. Beautiful drive. Tour guide Marco in Assisi was very thorough and excellent topic knowledge. Tour went long because he seemed to really enjoy what he does. Tour assistant pointed things out on the way, but also didn’t just talk at us the whole time. I cannot recommend the group at Welcome Italy enough for their day excursions. Cars are very clean and comfortable. We had paid for a small group tour but it ended up being only us which made the tour even more personal.

My husband and I they really enjoyed the four Basilica tour with Dina as our tour guide and her colleague Stefano. Dina was very professional and knowledgeable all the subject matters. She gave us time to explore and pray and attend Mass at the Basilicas. It was truly a magnificent experience and a full day learning more about the history of our faith. Welcome Italy was such a great way for my wife and I to experience a full trip in Rome. We actually had three separate excursions with them. First we went to Castel Gandolfo and Nemi. After a full three days in Rome, this was such a quiet and relaxing day. Antoinetta was so personable and made us feel at home, and our driver Pietro was great. The second day we traveled with Marie and Pino to Orvieto and Assisi. Again, both were professional and it felt like we were traveling with old friends by the end of the day. Our third day we traveled with Cascia and Spoleto. Another day of being immersed with a rich understanding of the history thanks to our guide, Juliana, and driver Flavio. Disclaimer here… my wife and I are Catholic, and from that perspective we felt so close to the history of the church. The guides did a great job of understanding that and catering to it each day. Their recommendations on restaurants while traveling were top notch as well. I cannot say enough good things about the days we spent with Welcome Italy and will absolutely be using their services on our next trip to Italy!
