The valley of the temples at Agrigento is definitely worth visiting the Greek architecture is breath taking and the ruins are in very good shape
What an amazing day in the Valley of the Temples! Stones still standing after 2,500 odd years. The history of the place is outstanding and little known outside Sicily. This is a ‘must see’ experience when you visit this magical island. The trip doesn’t include entry fees into the site (€14 pp) nor does it include any fees for the guide - without whom the place would mostly remain shrouded in the mists of time - so pay the extra €30 pp for the 2 hour tour and get the best from your day.
It is a very good day trip outside of Palermo: the visit to the Valley of the Temples is unique and our drivers (Andrea and Francesco) were very nice and professional!!
The Valley of the Temples was very interesting and the guide was very knowledgeable. On the whole a worthwhile tour
Excellent tour with helpful guides. Had to pay extra for guide Terry at the valley but absolutely worth it
The visit to the valley of the temples was fantastic! As outlined in the description you are only paying for the transport to the site - a very comfortable air conditioned 9 seater van. It was hot so this was perfect. On arrival you pay the site entry fee and you have the option to pay for a guide which I highly recommend. The guide was very knowledgeable. The driver for the day was friendly and helpful.
The Valley of the Temples at Agrigentum rates 5 stars and is not the subject of this review. My complaint is that the tour did not follow the described itinerary. It was supposed to include the Valley of the Temples and a second stop at the nearby archeological museum, but instead the second stop was at the Turkish Steps, which I was not particularly interested in seeing. Based on the tour description, I purchased a combination ticket online for both the Valley of the Temples and the archaeological museum, so some money was wasted. (But definitely purchase the Valley of the Temples admission on line, otherwise you will waste time standing in line.) As mentioned by other reviewers, this “tour” covers only round-trip transportation. There is no commentary or anything resembling a tour, so the description is a little misleading. You are entirely on your own for 2 hours at the site. This is adequate to see everything if you hurry, or you can ride the shuttle inside the site (4 euros for the 2-kilometer uphill return trip). It is not recommended for those with mobility issues. An additional complaint is a total lack of communication with the tour operator. They do not reply to messages or queries.
The site was incredible and a must visit for vacationers to Sicily to see these monuments. Our guide Filippo was amazing and took care of us well.
We booked this tour a couple of days before as we couldn't find direct trains to Agrigento from Palermo and really wanted to go. We knew from previous reviews that this was mainly a transport service, but we were happy to use this tour to visit. The meeting point was beside the famous Palermo Theatre and all went smoothly. It's a long drive each way, but once out of the busy centre of Palermo the scenery is stunning. Once at the ruins you had the choice of walking around yourself or doing a guided tour with a tour guide who came onto our bus. There was no pressure to take the guided tour, but we did and our tour guide was excellent and we felt it was well worth doing. It was €30 per person on the day to add the tour and was about two hours long. We stopped at some impressive cliffs on the journey back. We found the tour to be a good choice for visiting Agrigento from Palermo. The ruins are very impressive. Our whole group were on a large and comfortable coach for this tour. Thanks, from the Irish couple.
I expected a long drive. The vans were adequate. The communication of how long the drive would be, when we were stopping … was poor ( for example: we will arrive out our destination in 10 minutes) would have been helpful *our driver was competent but played talk radio with loads of commercials very loudly. Super annoying. The guide was very good but €30 per person is a bit much (group of 16)for 2 hours. The description in the Trip Advisor listing needs more detail!!
