Dopo la colazione in hotel, partenza per Berat, patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO. Berat ha due vecchi quartieri, Gorica e Mangalem. Nel 1417 la città fu occupata dai turchi che costruirono alcune moschee nell'area sotto il vecchio castello della città. Berat è situato ai piedi del monte Tomorri e sulle rive del fiume Osum. Costruito in bianco su un pendio di verde con il fiume ai suoi piedi, offre una vista suggestiva non appena diventa visibile. È famoso per le sue case bianche con le sue numerose finestre che sembrano essere state costruite una sopra l'altra, che le danno il soprannome di "città dalle mille e una finestra". Mantiene uno stile unico di architettura, con strade strette e lastricate in pietra
Berat patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO. Avendo più di 2400 anni Berat è una delle città più affascinanti dell'Albania. Istituito nel III secolo a.C.da una tribù illirica dell'Albania centrale con un castello protettivo, era conosciuta come la città fortificata di Antipatrea. Il castello è l'unico in Albania che ha ancora case e abitanti tra le sue mura, andando avanti nella loro vita quotidiana esattamente nello stesso posto che i loro predecessori avevano fatto secoli fa. Visiteremo il Castello, la chiesa di Santa Maria trasformata in Museo Onufri che ospita una collezione incredibilmente diversificata di icone e altre due chiese non aperte al pubblico. Onufri il cui nome è stato dato a questo museo di icone era un maestro pittore albanese del XVI secolo che dipinse molte icone di chiese in Albania e in Grecia ed è famoso per il suo colore rosso che porta il suo nome. Berat è anche famoso, poiché qui sono state trovate due delle più antiche bibbie "Nuovo Testamento", una del VI secolo e una del IX secolo d.C. Il pranzo può essere uno speciale in una casa tradizionale all'interno del castello gestito da una coppia locale.
Dopo pranzo partenza per l'antica città dell'Apollonia, uno dei più importanti centri antichi di epoca romana sulla famosa Via Egnatia. Il famoso oratore romano Cicerone, stupito dalla bellezza di Apollonia, la chiamò nelle sue Filippine, "magna urbs et gravis" - una città grande e importante. Istituita nel VII secolo a.C., dai coloni greci di Corinto e Corcira, l'antica città si trova a 11 km a ovest della città di Fier. Gli scavi archeologici hanno rivelato che l'Apollonia raggiunse il suo apice nel IV - III secolo a.C. Nel primo secolo a.C., Ottaviano Augusto studiò filosofia lì fino a quando non sentì la notizia dell'omicidio di Cesare al Senato e divenne il successivo imperatore. Visita la città e un monastero ortodosso trasformato in museo archeologico. Abbiamo la possibilità di goderci uno splendido tramonto dalla cima della collina, quindi torniamo a Tirana. Our guide Jetmir picked us up very punctually at our hotel. Prior to the day of the trip, we had written communication via Whatsapp and I really appreciated the company answering our questions and making suggestions. They are super accomodating for the pickup, not only within Tirana but also further. Our guide made our day interesting and rich in explanations. The visits were great and he picked a delicious traditional albanian restaurant for lunch. Jetmir took time to answer all our questions, always in a friendly and good mood. Amazing! Had a tour with Edi whose English and local knowledge was amazing. Berat and Apollonia are beautiful and well worth the visit. I was a solo Traveller and there was another solo Traveller as well and we were lucky it was a small group. Edi answered all questions and was easy to engage with conversation, as well as volunteering to take lots of photos. Berat is stunning both the castle and city. Views from the castle are perfect. Apollonia we had a Specialist Guide who was able to talk us through the history and story of the site in great detail. The monastery is also beautiful and you have free time to look around and explore. The company keep you updated before you leave and timings and the plans for the fay are shared on the route out. Would have loved to have time to explore more of Berat but we were able to squeeze onto a wine tasting at Çobo wines which made the trip even better! Highly recommend.
