Stone Town, classée au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO, est l'une des villes commerçantes côtières swahilies historiques intactes d'Afrique de l'Est. Il y a beaucoup de magasins, son mélange de gens, ses marchés et restaurants animés, ses mosquées, ses églises et ses temples hindous se combinent et différentes cultures. Lors de notre visite de Stone Town, vous pourrez découvrir des artefacts intéressants comme les portes arabes incurvées avec des clous en laiton, des balcons incurvés, la poste coloniale ou le marché de Kanga. Nos guides repéreront les choses les plus intéressantes. La visite comprend le marché central, l'ancien marché aux esclaves, la cathédrale anglicane, la maison des merveilles, le vieux fort, la maison Freddie Mercury et bien plus encore.
Aujourd'hui, l'île est une petite station touristique, célèbre pour ses tortues géantes. Notre guide vous donnera une courte introduction au passé intéressant de l’îlot et vous pourrez ensuite passer du temps à bronzer, nager ou vous promener pour voir des tortues et des paons. De plus, un bateau traditionnel en bois vous amènera à Prison Island. L'îlot était autrefois utilisé comme détention privée pour les esclaves désobéissants. Plus tard, une prison a été construite, mais jamais réellement utilisée.
Vous serez submergé par l'abondance d'épices, de fruits et de légumes exotiques poussant dans ces jardins tropicaux. Savourez différentes épices fraîches comme la cannelle, la cardamome, le gingembre, la muscade, la vanille ou le poivre noir. Goûtez à une variété de fruits allant de la pomme rose au citron doux en passant par la goyave! Il est également intéressant d’apprendre comment certaines plantes sont utilisées non seulement par la population locale pour guérir certaines maladies, et comment d’autres comme le henné, l’arbre à parfum et les arbres à rouge à lèvres trouvent leur valeur pour la préparation de cosmétiques.

Khamis is very knowledgeable and gave us in-depth knowledge and information about stone town and prison island! We started off the day at a reasonable time after being dropped off by our driver from Nungwi. I recommend Khamis to everyone!

We went to StoneTown on our first day in Zanzibar. Khamis took us from the hotel and drove us to Stonetown where we got on a boat and reached Prison Island. There he told us the history of the island - he was very explanatory and we learned a lot of things. We saw turtles that where more than 100 years old. We took some pictures and then we went back to Stonetown. We went on a tour in the city and Khamis told us how old the city was. We saw a lot if culture and historical sites. It is a must see. We even saw the slaves museum there. After that we went to the Spice farm. This was the best part of the day. The people from the farm showed us many fruit and spices plants - cinnamon, avocado and many more. In the end there was a boy who climbed a palm to the end of it and sang a traditional song. Then they cut us a coconut to dring and to eat. At the end we could buy spices for home. It was a wonderful experience - thanks to Khamis, I definetely recommend him - he was kind to everyone of my family. Definitely the best tour guide we could find!

Fantastic guide! (Tall) was very knowledgeable and lots of fun, we were sceptical about Stone Town but Tall made it very enjoyable. The history and builds were fascinating.

Had a great time touring with our guide, Tall, who showed us the amazing sights of prison island and gave us a great historical rundown of how the island came to be. Since we took a private tour, we got to cater the experience to focus on only the elements of the island we cared for. We spent a great amount of time also learning about the turtles that currently inhabit the island, and, on our way back got to have the freshest fruits for lunch. Highly recommend this tour!
