Également connu sous le nom de Fort arabe et sous d'autres noms, il s'agit d'une fortification située dans la ville de pierre, la capitale de Zanzibar. C'est le plus ancien bâtiment de la ville de pierre. Il est situé sur le front de mer principal, à côté d'un autre bâtiment emblématique de la ville, la Maison des merveilles (l'ancien palais du sultan) et face aux jardins Fordhani.
Est une petite partie de la ville historique de Stone Town, Zanzibar. Les jardins sont situés le long de la promenade maritime principale de Stone Town, juste en face des célèbres bâtiments de la maison des merveilles et du vieux fort. Les jardins sont particulièrement occupés après le coucher du soleil, lorsque les touristes et les locaux se rassemblent dans un marché de rue populaire sur la place principale, pour dîner en dégustant de délicieux cousins swahili et zanzibari tels que des fruits de mer grillés, des samoussas, des patates douces au manioc, un mélange de Zanzibar (urojo), Pizza de Zanzibar.
Il a été construit au 18ème siècle. Le petit-fils du sultan Said a été proclamé sultan lui-même ici en 1896. Il fait face à la mer sur la route mizingani. Il vaut cependant le détour pour voir sa porte en bois magnifiquement sculptée avec des motifs de poissons, de lotus et d'ancres.
Stone Town est une ville d'importance historique et artistique de premier plan en Afrique de l'Est. Son architecture, datant pour la plupart du XIXe siècle, reflète les diverses influences sous-jacentes à la culture swahili, donnant un mélange unique d'éléments arabes, persans, indiens, indiens et européens. Pour cette raison, la ville a été désignée site du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO en 2000. Dans ma visite à pied de la ville de pierre, je vous montrerai la vraie culture de la ville. À côté des attractions répertoriées bien connues, je vous montrerai également des lieux culturels locaux riches comme Ismail Khoja Jamat Khana, les rues étroites de Stone Town, les portes sculptées de Zanzibar et le centre-ville (jows corner).
Est-ce l'un des marchés qui a plus d'un nom que certains appellent marché aux épices, marché de darajani ou marché local, la plupart des choses qu'ils vendent à darajani sont fraîches, vous pouvez voir beaucoup de fruits frais, de poisson et d'épices.
Pendant des siècles, Zanzibar a été le pivot du pouvoir politique et économique en Afrique de l'Est ainsi que le site de l'esclave le plus notoire de la région. Les esclaves capturés sur le continent ont été amenés à Zanzibar enchaînés pour être vendus sur le marché aux esclaves de la ville, endurant souvent d'horribles difficultés au cours de leur voyage. C'est parce que l'île était si centrale dans la traite des esclaves qu'elle a joué un rôle si important dans l'abolition de l'esclavage non seulement en Afrique mais dans le monde entier. Le marché a été fermé sur ordre du sultan en 1873.
Est situé dans la chaleur de la ville de pierre de Zanzibar Fred Mercury est né à Zanzibar et a déménagé en Angleterre vers 1963. Le musée présente l'accord de Zanzibar à partir de la fin des années 1800, le lieu de naissance de Farroukh bulsara, ses racines avec le zoroastrien, la religion, son enfance et son éducation à Zanzibar, suivies de sa scolarité à Panchangani, en Inde, puis de son parcours extraordinaire pour en devenir un des plus grands départs de tous les temps.

I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience,the Atmosphere was amazing! This was one of the highlights of my vacation, and a huge part of that is thanks to our amazing tour guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what he does. He made the experience feel personal, enjoyable, and unforgettable. I paid extra to avoid crowded spaces. From start to finish, everything was handled so well, and his energy and kindness made the whole experience even more special. I loved every moment and found myself wishing the tour could have lasted longer. It was truly one of those experiences where, the moment it ends, you’re already thinking about coming back. If you’re planning to visit, I highly recommend booking this tour — and if you’re lucky enough to have this guide, you’re in for an incredible experience. The reception staff of the hotel I was in Zanzibar introduced me to the guide Hassan as I have been looking for one to show me what is on offer because I was on a short stay. And I was there, to be honest, for the HISTORY of the place, not for its famous beaches I ended up visiting at the very end of my trip! I was AMAZINGLY SATISFIED!! Mr Hassan, first of foremost, is a young man who has, to my mind, a VERY GOOD PERSONALITY ! He is NATURAL, HONEST, HELPFUL, FRIENDLY and TRUSTWORTHY!! He is too a GOOD COMMUNICATOR with good conversations topics! Mr Hassan also shows an EXCELLENT OPEN-MINDEDNESS! Which is extremely appreciable from a young man bathed in his culture!! And, needless to say, he has shown indeed his OUTSTANDING SKILLS regarding the job of a guide tour in Stone Town but also in the whole island, I would venture saying, as he wisely guided me on my solo trip from Stone Town up north to MATEMWE and MUYUNI and from there down south to JAMBIANI and KAMIZKAZI!!! Last but not the least, Mr Hassan is charging a FAIR PRICE and he is not the one to systematically, like a bunch of tourist guides do, drive you surreptitiously to shops or gift shops he might be affiliated with!!! Mr Hassan focuses on the business of showing the touristic sites of the place!!! A REMARKABLE GUIDE TO UNDOUBTEDLY RECOMMEND!!!!

Hassan was punctual, professional and delivered exactly the tour we had agreed. Beforehand, he asked about our interests and then tailored the experience around what we genuinely wanted to see, rather than following a rigid standard route. He showed us the culture and eclectic architecture of Stone Town while also giving us plenty of insight into the everyday lives of local people. His historical knowledge was excellent, and we particularly appreciated the care he took to ensure the information he gave us was accurate. On the rare occasion he did not know the answer to a question, he was completely honest rather than trying to invent one, which made him even more trustworthy as a guide. Hassan also arranged for his cousin, Said, to collect us from our hotel near Kendwa Beach in the north of the island. This involved roughly a three-hour round trip. Said was friendly, drove very safely, and his car was clean, comfortable and well maintained. The price for the transport was also very reasonable. As we were interested in potentially buying a piece of local art, Hassan took the time to show us his own work and studio, the work of his original tutor, and the studio where new students are learning. He was extremely respectful throughout and there was absolutely no pressure to buy anything. When we explained that we appreciated his talent but were looking for a different style for our home, he was entirely understanding and remained just as friendly and helpful. We would strongly recommend Hassan to anyone looking for an informative, honest and genuinely personalised tour of Stone Town.

We really enjoyed Hassan’s company. He is smart, passionate and articulate. He has obviously spent time learning as much as possible about Stone Town. He is very much a local and is an artist with a gallery in Stone Town. We were allowed to move at our own speed and he quickly realised what interested us and what didn’t. I asked him so many questions on a whole range of subjects - not just the history of Stone Town. I was surprised at how thoughtful and honest his answers were.
