Xunantunich est l'une des plus grandes cités mayas anciennes jamais construites. Les dirigeants de Xunantunich s'affrontent avec d'autres puissants rivaux de la région, notamment Tikal. En 2016, la plus grande tombe royale maya jamais découverte a été fouillée à Xunantunich. Le site reste un impressionnant ensemble de pyramides, de palais et d'autres bâtiments grandioses.

Cette visite comprend une visite de deux des attractions les plus incroyables du Belize, les ruines de l'ancienne ville maya de Xunantunich et les eaux saphir du Inland Blue Hole. Ruines mayas de Xunantunich L'une des plus grandes cités mayas anciennes jamais construites, Xunantunich est située à environ 110 km à l'ouest de Belize City. Construit sur une crête surplombant la rivière Mopan, Xunantunich abritait autrefois près de 100 000 personnes. Le nom d'origine du site est inconnu, mais son nom moderne dérive d'un terme maya qui signifie «femme de pierre». Redécouvert pour la première fois en 1892, de nombreux visiteurs ont signalé avoir vu une femme fantomatique qui aurait hanté la structure connue sous le nom de « El Castillo ”(Le Château). El Castillo, qui est toujours la deuxième plus grande structure artificielle du pays, mesure 40 mètres (130 pieds) de hauteur. Construit comme une pyramide de temple, El Castillo est situé dans le centre exact de la ville. Aujourd'hui, Xunantunich est situé à environ 1,5 km de la frontière guatémaltèque. À son apogée pendant la période classique de la civilisation maya (environ 600-700 après JC), Xunanutinch faisait concurrence aux villes voisines, notamment Naranjo, Caracol et Tikal (située à quelques kilomètres seulement de la frontière guatémaltèque). Le trou bleu intérieur À ne pas confondre avec le Blue Hole qui se trouve sur le récif au large des côtes, l'Inland Blue Hole est situé dans le parc national de St. Herman's Blue Hole, près de la capitale du Belize, Belmopan. Le St Herman’s, qui a été désigné pour la première fois parc national en 1986, est géré par la société Belize Audobon, située au cœur de l’une des régions les plus écologiquement diverses du pays. Plus de 200 espèces d'oiseaux ont été répertoriées dans la région, notamment le nid-d'abeilles à pattes rouges et le gobemouche piratique. Il existe également un large choix d'animaux sauvages dans le parc, y compris trois espèces de grands félins.

Edgar gave us such a rich history of the mayan culture and history that I was amazed at the advancement of the mayan civilization. This tour was not only a nice hike up the ruins, but a rich lesson in history, cultural, and civilization of the mayan culture. If you enjoy history, anthropology, or cultural civilization lessons then you’ll enjoy this experience.
My family had a great time! Edgar had great energy, good vibes, and very knowledgeable. He made our experience very enjoyable! Highly recommend.

This was amazing and so informative. Edgar was our guide and from the moment we stepped into his van he began the tour. Edgar gave us the history of every town we passed through with all the local stories. Once we got to the ruins Edgar continued with the tour and was extremely knowledgeable on all aspects. This was so enjoyable all do to Edgar and his great knowledge and insights he presented. Highly recommend and make sure you ask for Edgar as your tour guide.

we had the most amazng guide and driver Jimmy and Johnny...they went out of their way to create a great environment, gave us plenty of time to ask questions, provided food that i was not allergic to, they were very knowledgable and kind , great talking and learning from them!!! They provided such a wonderful history to the ruins... a first class experience!!! Thank you guys for making my and my nieces trip so memorable!! it meant alot
