C'est ici que Martin Luther a vécu et prêché, et le 31 octobre 1517, il a cloué ses 95 thèses à la porte de l'église du château. La Réforme protestante avait commencé. Parfois appelée «Rome des protestants», de nombreux sites commémoratifs de Luther ont été ajoutés à la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO en 1996.

Voir la résidence de Luther, un grand cloître que le réformateur Martin Luther utilisait comme maison. Visitez la place du marché de Wittenberg, dominée par l'hôtel de ville et les tours de l'église municipale. Jetez un œil au Mémorial de Luther. Derrière le marché se trouve une ancienne église appelée Stadtkirche, où Luther a prêché et s'est marié avec Katharina von Bora. Passez l'église du château, la célèbre église où Martin Luther a cloué ses 95 thèses à la porte. Luther a donné certains de ses sermons dans cette église et est maintenant enterré juste sous la chaire. Un autre point de repère important est Luther's Oak., Où 1520, les partisans de Luther ont brûlé une pile d'écrits de la doctrine de l'Église. En 1830, un chêne a été planté à l'endroit où tout cela aurait eu lieu. Nous terminons notre visite par l'Université de Wittenberg, où vous pouvez encore voir des parties de la structure datant du XVIe siècle. Luther lui-même a travaillé dans ces murs et ses citations sont affichées sur les murs du hall d'entrée.

I knew nothing about Wittenberg and come to find out it is mainly one street. But, that one street has so much history. It is a walking tour so be prepared, but each stop is a new adventure into the history of Lutheranism and of the town. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions. This tour is worth the price if you are a history buff like I am. You will not be disappointed.
