A good place to see the local animals of the region, and also some Australian classics like kangaroos and koalas. For us it was an opportunity to see cassowaries up close , since we didn’t see them in the wild.
Thanks for your review! We’re pleased you enjoyed seeing some of the region’s native wildlife up close, especially the cassowaries, along with favourites like kangaroos and koalas. We appreciate you visiting Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas and hope you took away some great memories from your time with us. 🦘
Our travel agent booked for us to have a private tour. We were met by a keeper who showed us around and told us about each of the animals. We were provided with a lovely vegetarian breakfast and joined by the birds who wee keen to share! Our keeper then provided us with feeding opportunities. We fed the wallabies and kangaroos, the cassowaries, fish and birds. We also met the koalas and some reptiles. We were given the opportunity to have 3 photos with a koala and another of our choice- we chose the frogmouth. We were then able to have free time following our tour. Overall it was great to learn more about the animals and hear their stories.
Thanks so much for the wonderful review! We’re delighted you enjoyed your private wildlife tour and the opportunity to learn more about the animals from your keeper. It sounds like you had a fantastic morning, from breakfast with the birds to meeting the koalas, reptiles and even choosing a frogmouth for your photo. We really appreciate you visiting Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas and sharing your experience. 🦜🐨
If you're a bird-lover like me, you will love the place. It has beautiful gardens and aviaries for the birdlife and great walkways for getting about easily. I did the breakfast with the birds and thoroughly enjoyed it. I also got a koala photo, where the koala sits on a branch and you stand next to it so as not to stress them which I appreciate. Only a few koalas and wallabies, so don't go expecting a lot of them. Passionate staff and great presentations to learn from! Really interesting reptile talk and crocodile presentation. Love seeing the two cassowary. Highly recommend a visit here.
As a fellow bird lover, it sounds like you found just the right place! We’re so pleased you enjoyed the beautiful habitats, Breakfast with the Birds and Koalas, and the wildlife presentations along the way. It’s lovely to hear our team’s passion stood out, and we really appreciate your recommendation. 🦜
super interesting, fairly self guided, family friendly, low impact but very fun, highly recommended for everyone
Was skeptical at first but feeding kangaroos and petting a koala during a photo session was awesome. Great staff and a good value!
Such a great experience. A scrumptious breakfast surrounded by birds of different species. The keepers are so keen about sharing their knowledge. We also got up close and personal with koala finding out more about their habits and habitat. Highly recommended unless you are afraid of birds! We especially liked feeding the kangaroo.
Thank you for the wonderful review, Emily! Breakfast with the Birds is certainly a special way to start the day, and we’re delighted you enjoyed learning from our passionate wildlife keepers and meeting some of our Australian animals up close. It sounds like our lively birds made quite the impression too! We hope to welcome you back to Wildlife Habitat again someday. 😊
An amazing wildlife park just outside of the main town centre. Get amazingly close to many animals and birds. We didn’t know until we got there that the ticket is a 5-day pass which is fabulous. Although we saw most of what we wanted on the first visit to return you’d certainly see more and different things. Get the shuttle from town for easy transport.
Thank you for the fantastic review, Prue! We’re so pleased you enjoyed getting close to our animals and birds, with plenty still waiting to be discovered on another visit. Our 5 Day Pass is perfect for returning at a different time of day and enjoying even more of Wildlife Habitat. It’s also great to hear the shuttle made getting here nice and easy. We hope to welcome you back next time you’re in Port Douglas! 😊
We were so surprised that a sanctuary si close to town could be this good. Walk thru enclosures are great with animals so relaxed and comfortable. Information from Keepers was good. Everyone got an opportunity to feed or touch animals. The 5 day pass is a great idea. Only 5 minutes from our hotel we visited 3 times at different times of the day and saw animals in a variety of ways.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Owen! We're delighted to hear the sanctuary exceeded your expectations and that you enjoyed getting so close to our wildlife. It's great to know our keepers helped make your visits even more memorable with their knowledge and passion. We're especially pleased you made the most of our 5 Day Pass—it really is a great way to experience the sanctuary at different times of the day, as our animals are naturally active in different ways throughout the day. Thanks again for your recommendation, and we hope to welcome you back on your next trip to Port Douglas! 😊
This is a must do when you come to Port Douglas. You get really up close to the animals and the kangaroos are super friendly! You even get to pat a koala with your picture taken. It’s also good to know part of the proceeds helps wild animals in Australia.
Wildlife Habitat is absolutely amazing, and I cannot recommend it enough if you are in the area. Not only were the birds and animals all amazing, all the staff was so sweet and kind to us. The birds were so beautiful, and it was nice that all the habitats were immersive, so the birds could be right next to you with no cage. I enjoyed feeding the kangaroos and the fish. Both the koala keeper talk and the crocodile feeding demonstration were extremely informative and enjoyable. It is also nice that there is a wildlife hospital on site. My family and I also did two experiences: feeding the crocodiles and the nocturnal walk. Feeding the crocodiles was absolutely amazing! My family and I got to feed crocodiles twice, and both times we felt extremely safe and well-guided. Again, the staff was so sweet and kind, and it was so fun to feed the crocodiles! The nocturnal walk was absolutely lovely, and it is 100% worth every dollar. We fed swallows, kangaroos, a tawny frogmouth, a cassowary, sugar gliders, and a quoll. We also were able to hold a native python and we even got lucky and saw a wild white-lipped tree frog. Our guide taught us so much about the animals we fed and the other animals in the Habitat, and it was truly an unforgettable night. Wine and a charcuterie board was included and delicious, especially eating it with a view of the sleepy koalas, which we got to pet after dinner. If I was ever in Port Douglas again, I would go straight back to Wildlife Habitat in a heartbeat!
