Le château d’Édimbourg est une forteresse historique qui domine l’horizon de la ville d’Édimbourg en Écosse, depuis sa position sur Castle Rock. Les archéologues ont découvert que l’occupation humaine du rocher date au moins de l’âge de fer, bien que la nature de la première colonisation soit obscure.
La cathédrale Saint-Gilles, également connue sous le nom de la High Kirk d’Édimbourg, est le principal lieu de culte de l’Église écossaise à Édimbourg. Son clocher couronné caractéristique est l’une des principales caractéristiques de l’horizon de la ville, à environ un tiers de la descente du Royal Mile qui fonctionne depuis le château jusqu’à Holyrood Palace
Les jardins de Princes Street sont deux parcs publics adjacents du centre d’Édimbourg, situés dans l’ombre du château d’Édimbourg. Les jardins ont été créés en deux étapes dans les années 1770 et 1820, en suivant les longues files d’assèchement du Nor Loch et la construction de la nouvelle ville, en commençant dans les années 1760.

Le Royal Mile est une succession de rues formant l’artère principale de la vieille ville de la ville d’Édimbourg. Le terme était d’abord utilisé de façon descriptive dans le livre de W. M. Gilbert « Edinburgh in the Nineteenth Century » (Édimbourg au XIXe siècle, 1901), « ... avec son château, son palais, et le Royal Mile entre les deux », et a été davantage popularisé comme titre d’un guide, paru en 1920.
Princes Street est l’une des artères principales du centre d’Édimbourg, et la principale rue commerçante de la capitale. C’est la rue la plus au sud de la nouvelle ville d’Édimbourg, qui s’étend autour de 1,6 km (1 mile) au départ de Lothian Road à l’ouest jusqu’à Leith Street à l’est. La rue n’a pratiquement pas de bâtiments sur le côté sud, offrant une vue panoramique de la vieille ville, du château d’Édimbourg, et de la vallée au milieu. La majorité de la rue est limitée aux tramways, bus et taxis avec seulement l’extrémité ouverte à toutes les conditions de circulation.

Le musée national d’Écosse, à Édimbourg, a été créé en 2006 par la fusion du nouveau musée d’Écosse, avec des collections d’antiquités, de culture et d’histoire écossaises, avec le musée Royal voisin, avec des collections qui couvrent la science et la technologie, l’histoire naturelle, et les cultures mondiales.

This was a great trip. I just wish I had done my homework a little better because I did not realize that 8 hours of this trip would be on the train to and from Edinburgh. That did not leave nearly enough time in the castle or in the town.

Walking is extremely difficult. Over a mile an extreme incline to reach castle. Hop on hop off bus ride was OK but it was so crowded. We didn’t use it hardly at all. Food on train was disgusting. Don’t waste your money on first class bring your own food.

The train had a delay and we had on 4hrs to explore. We couldn’t go into the castle because the road was closed and there were family members who couldn’t do the long hike up to the castle. Waste of money for such a short time. Just buy a train ticket and go on your own time.
